Aibileen, on the other hand, hasn’t obtained as much education as Mrs. Skeeter. Aibileen was black, and back in her days, blacks did not have the opportunity to receive the same education as whites did. Aiblieen was a very bright student and would have been very successful if she could have finished school. Even her teacher, Miss Ross, said that she was very intelligent, “You’re the smartest in the class, Abilieen.” Unfortunately, she could not finish school because she had to support her mother with bills that she could not pay herself. She stopped going to school when she was fourteen years old. She instead went to work as a maid and wait on white families. Because of her lack of education, she did not speak very well. Sacajawea is one of the most known American-Indian women. Her voyage with explorers Lewis and Clark was legendary. She was born in Tendoy, Idaho around 1788. She was a member of the Lemhi Shoshone tribe. America was only 12 years old at this time and the territory ended at the Mississippi river. One year after the United States doubled its territory with the Louisiana Purchase, the Lewis and Clark expedition leaves St. Louis, Missouri, on a mission to explore the Northwest from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean (History). Even before the purchase was finished, President Thomas Jefferson sent his private secretary Meriwether Lewis and army captain William Clark on an expedition into what is now the U.S. Northwest.
Bashana Haba’ah was composed by Nurit Hurish, composer of over 1,000 songs and one of Israel’s most prolific and diverse composers, in 1967. This piece in particular comes from Israel and is a Hebrew song. Jewish music first originated in the Middle East area about 2,000 years ago, specifically in the land of Israel, and has continued to spread from there, soon reaching America, where we now sing and perform it today. Something interesting about this piece is that it was written shortly after the Six-Day War and a lot of the poetry throughout the piece creates a very strong image of a world in peace, without war.

The impact of the unknow is only holding us back from our greatest potential. Zinn goes in great depths describing the true American History and the impact it has made for the future. The America that is displayed in the book has a more realistic viewpoint of many of our tragic events, that occurred and made an impact to change our history. Overall through our good and bad as a nation we need to grown to ecapt all as it is, for it makes who we are and what our history is. Applying the truth now only opens the door of the positive possibilities to come from learning from our worst disasters, to greatest victories. This shows the highs and lows, the reality of what actually occurred to make natural Americans. Zinn describes in his Afterword that
After reading the essay written by Jesus Villahermosa I believe his thesis statement is “Given my extensive experience dealing with violence in the workplace and at schools and colleges, I do not think professors and administrators, let alone students, should carry guns”. In his second paragraph, he lays out reason as to why he feels this way and shows that he can be considered an expert in firearm safety. Giving information into his background reinforces his position and add to his argument against arming people on college campuses. Some may be surprised that he is against having armed professors and students on campus because of his background. However, I am not surprised that he is strongly against having firearm toting professors, administrators and students throughout campuses. He is properly trained, experienced with firearm safety and marksmanship which in turn gives him great support to his argument.

Have you ever set your eyes on something and stuck to the plan to improve something? African Americans back in the day had it hard with equal rights and cruelty. Whites disliked the blacks for no import reason especially in the south. They would have blacks come from the north to the south and would be blind to the misused blacks. In their mind it was a crime to not be white; to us it was just equal inequalities.
The author, Naheed Mustafa, starts out with two points of view others have of her, a “Muslim terrorist” or an oppressed woman (Mustafa 1). However, with these two points of view, Mustafa is suggesting that people only view her in these two ways because in their eyes a Muslim woman cannot be more. Then she introduces the hijab, a scarf which covers her neck, head, and throat, but explains that young Muslim women like her are “reinterpreting” the purpose of the hijab: give women absolute control over their bodies. According to Mustafa, the hijab does not only give women absolute control but freedom. Yet, others do not understand this concept or why a young woman who was born in a land that is free and full of opportunities like North America

I, Steven Tellez, feel that I am a good candidate to serve in National Honor Society because I've experienced what it is to be part of the National Honor Society. In middle school I served in National Junior Society for two years and we participated in many events that helped towards the community and in my serving I helped induct new members into the program by lighting the candle to one of the four main attributes of National Honor Society. One thing I loved to do in N.J.H.S was help with the surrounding community when we got the chance. And in my everyday life I still help with my community and neighborhood such as feeding a stray dog on the street or help rebuild a playground that needs repairs or a cleanup. The joy of helping other people
