Romeo and Juliet Blame Paper Romeo and Juliet is a great tragedy caused by the actions of Friar Lawrence. The Friar did many things while looking out for his good, and not the good of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence should not have married Romeo and Juliet in the first place. He shouldn’t have given Juliet the sleeping potion and if he didn't rely on someone else to give a letter of great importance to Romeo, Romeo and Juliet would not have committed suicide. All of these unforgivable mistakes that the Friar committed lead to the deaths of Romeo and Juliet. If he could have thought his actions through this plan could have worked out better. Friar Lawrence is fully to blame for Romeo and Juliet's death. The first mistake Friar made lead to all of his other mistakes. Friar should have never in a million years married Romeo and Juliet. He knew they were young and not in love as they had only known eachother for a day. “Come, come with me and we will make short work, for, by your levels, you shall not stay alone, till holy church incorporate two in one” (Shakespeare 420). Friar didn’t want to have to marry Juliet to two people as that would be against the law. So, Friar then gave Juliet a sleeping potion where she was supposed to be asleep for 42 hours. This plan lead her family into great devastation. Friar knew that it was wrong to give Juliet the potion, but he thought that if he didn't she would proceed to kill herself right there in his cell. "If, rather than to marry County Paris, Thou hast the strength of will to slay thyself, Then it is likely thou wilt undertake A thing like death to chide away this shame, That copest with death himself to scape from it: And, if thou darest, I’ll give you thee remedy” (Shakespeare 453).
