This quote by Pat Robertson works as a great illustration for how our nation reacted to the suicide attacks carried out by Al-Qaeda on United States soil. The initial reaction by political pundits and politicians alike was that the only cause of these attacks was due to a radical Islamic view on the world. However, in Robert A. Pape and James K. Feldman’s book Cutting the Fuse they try to analyze data on suicide bombing and try to determine what is the root cause of these violent acts. Their conclusions are the exact opposite of the rhetoric that was presented to the American public. Instead of blaming Islamic extremists, they instead come to the conclusion, “that military occupation is the main factor driving suicide terrorism” (Pape & Feldman 10). Furthermore, they also put forth the argument that our current military strategies involving military occupation are counter-productive because rather than deterring violence, it actually increases suicide-bombings committed against American forces. In this paper I will examine the conclusions Robert Pape and James Feldman have come to and will also analyze these conclusions in Cutting the Fuse with a belief that this text works to refute much of what the American public has been told.

In the past year we have had another devastating event like 9/11 that struck Paris. I am greatly horrified at what happened that day. I hope we all will remember what happened there and also what happened on 9/11. Terrorists are growing stronger, and we need to stop them. We are the next generation to fight, and I hope we all will take responsibility and stand up to help our country in some way. The terrorist group called ISIS have caused much destruction and stress. The event I am about to tell you about was one of their worst attacks so far. These events killed 130 people and hurt hundreds. I don’t think this event could have been prevented since ISIS doesn’t really listen - they just go and kill people. I really hope nothing at all will happen like this again. So I’m going to tell you about it so “History doesn’t repeat itself.” I hope you find this report interesting.

In Langston Hughes poem “Let America be America Again” he talks about how America should return to the way that it was perceived to be in the dreams before America was truly America. Throughout the poem he uses various methods to evoke the patriotic images and dreams that he feels America should and will eventually be. Hughes states that America is supposed to be a place of equality for everyone including both white and colored people. During this period in time though there was not equality for everyone. Hughes talks about an America where both whites and colored people will have equality in all aspects socially, politically, and economically. What Hughes is saying is that both whites and colored
In America Is In the Heart, writer Carlos Bulosan delivers a near autobiographical description of his life growing up in the Philippines post World War I and his disillusioned idea of the “American Dream”. Although this later proven disappointment was bolstered by family members and close friends, Carlos, or Allos as he is referred to in the book, never truly gives up his “American Dream” and instead burdens the responsibility to keep the image shiny and intact within a crooked America.
