She used to take me for a ride up to the Mermaid because she was the one who would ask, "Is Alexander the Great still alive? And I would have to answer, "He lives and reigns, and conquers the world". "Let 's go to the me-maid", I asked very often from her. It was a small square with a fountain and a beautiful statue from white marble in the center with a shape of a mermaid. This was near the church of the Transfiguration. When we arrived at the creek, the stream that is at the height of Katsios’ Tavern, we stopped to listen to the frogs and we were laughing with their funny caws. The honeysuckle, or the khanum 's hand as they called it, "sti Poli" (in the City) And when we detected a honeysuckle in some yard she used to ask, "Do you know how they call otherwise honeysuckle, "sti Poli" (in the City of Costantinoupolis)? The khanum 's (turkish woman) hand. Please, just have a look at this flower closely, isn 't it like a little white hand"? Polis, (the City), only with the hearing of that word grandmother was touched, but tried not to show it. When the story began, I looked closely to her eyes. They became watery immediately for Vosporos, Great Pera, Agia Sophia. A thousand and one, the words for the City. Costantinoupolis, Galata Bridge (Kara Keuï), around 1900 A bridge has always had a leading role at this point. A bridge with contradictory personality. Bridges are made to connect two pieces of land, while the bridge in our history, was separating as boundary two
Was Alexander the Great great? Alexander was about 20-22 years old when the pension of the empire. Alexander died of too many battles but, the death was important because Alexander was one of the good soldier leader to be around . The city of their state was falling apart.
Many historians have argued about Alexander the Great and if he deserves to be called great. Being 20 years old, Alexander the Great conquered most of the Persian Empire. His father, Philip II, was assassinated and Alexander III ruled over his father's Macedonian Empire. He and his army was called invincible but Alexander gets struck down by a disease called malaria in Babylon. How Great was Alexander the Great? Alexander is worthy to be called “Great”because he helped spread the Greek culture and he was selfless.
Alexander The Great was a powerful military leader and a king. His reign lasted 11 years, during the time of ancient Greece. Within those 11 years he conquered land from Macedonia to the Hindu Kush mountains with an army of 40,000 soldiers. Alexander the Great was great for these reasons, his military strategy, leadership, and his achievement and persistence.
Charge! This was Alexander the Great. He was king of Macedonia and he got to power at the age 20 after his father died at his daughter's wedding. He was trained from birth to become a king and become a great one. He was taught by Aristotle, and he taught him academic subjects, politics, sports and warfare (Doc BGE). As king he took over the Persian empire and he died after he got back to Babylon after going all the way to the Indus River. In the war he showed leadership, intelligence, and creativity. Alexander was great because he conquered Persia and he had many different traits that made him a leader.
A third reason why History is always written by victors is that Alexander the Great was a person who many conquered territories in his lifetime. For example, “Now he was king of the whole of Persia, Greece, Egypt, Phoenicia, Palestine, Babylonia, Assyria, Asia Minor and Persia all these were now part of this empire” (Chapter 12 Page #77 Paragraph 2 line 1).Alexander the Great had conquered many territories making him powerful. Nevertheless, Alexander did not just want that territory he wanted more so he wanted to rule new and undiscovered land to become more powerful. Another reason why Alexander the great fits into the topic history are always written by victors “Alexander was determined to be a true ruler of Egypt the sort they were used
A lot of individuals argued if Alexander the Great was great or not great. Alexander the Great was great to his empire and did everything he could to expand his empire. Alexander was born more than 300 years before Jesus was born. He was only 20 when he launched his first invasion of the Persian Empire. The death of Darius was important to Alexander’s conquest to Persia since it would make it easier to rule his people. Alexander’s army was the one that told him to stop and it caused him to march back and it was not even his enemy after eight years of conquest and combat. Alexander the Great was great because he was courageous for his people and intelligent to create ideas to protect his people. Although some may argue that Alexander doesn’t
Great or not? Alexander the “Great” was a Macedonian leader who conquered and discovered many cities in just 12 years. But was Alexander really that much of an amazing leader? The answer to that is not at all. He killed thousands, was very narcissistic, and ruined many cultures.
Some people say Alexander the Great was a good leader, others think otherwise. I will show you that Alexander the Great was in fact not a great leader and ruler over his empire. Alexander was a ruthless and brutal leader to put it in the simplest terms. Alexander was a very severe leader for many reasons. Alexander the Great had everything handed to him because his dad was King Philip II. He had conquered many lands and had a well-trained army, and to his detriment Alexander inherited them directly from his dad after he was assassinated. Overall, Alexander the Great was not that Great.
In the fourth century BC, rapid cultural, economic, social, and political changes were occurring in the Mediterranean and Asia Minor as a result of the conquests of Alexander the Great. In 337 BC, Alexander the Third inherited the Macedonian kingdom after his father, Philip the Second, died. Philip the Second has already taken control over all of Greece, and Alexander used the manpower and money from this to expand even further, into Persia. Beginning in 334 BC, Alexander started an intense campaign through Persia, concurring city after city. Eventually, Alexander had conquered all of Persia and forced the Persian king Darius the third to the city of Ecbatana, where he was killed. Instead of returning to Greece after his victory over the Persian
As I researched the time period Sontag wrote A Woman’s Beauty: Put-down or Power Source I found out the essay was published in April 1975 for no less than Vogue Magazine, which now days is the most important magazine about fashion and beauty. How ironic!! Around the time period of 1970 and 1975, in the United States women started to be more noticeable in things only men were known to do. In 1970, the first female jockey in Kentucky Derby. In 1974, the first black model was featured in Vogue Magazine, girls were allowed to play in little league baseball, the first women priest in the Episcopal Church and also January 1st of 1975 international women years begins. I noticed
Alexander the great is a villain because he killed many innocent people, he was obsessed with being on top, and he destroyed so many sacred things.
“A tomb now suffices him for whom the whole world was not sufficient.” -Alexander the Great. When people think of villains they think of some of these people: Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Osama Bin Laden, etc. But there is one name that never seems to show up, that name is Alexander the Great. In that quote, Alexander is referring to many people. People that were brutally murdered in the war that he started. Alexander the Great is a villain because he killed hundreds of thousands of people, including some of his own family, Conquered most of Europe and Asia, and destroyed cultures.
Alexander III or Macedon was a man who was political and has military talents, he was also tutored by Aristotle when he was younger. After the king was murdered, Alexander took control of the kingdom and even though there was no evidence of involvement, many Macedonians suspected that Alexander had been a part of the plot. Alexander the Great had impacts of three major conquests, the Hellenistic world and the legacy of his empire which were all in Persia, India and Egypt.
What is a legacy? Does it mean leaving your mark? Is it something that is handed down from generation to generation? Is it something that you build? Everybody has a legacy and it is different for everyone. Alexander the Great was one of the most influential people in history who left a lasting legacy which would be realized for centuries. He conquered most of the Mediterranean world and spread Greek influence and culture throughout. Alexander is considered to be one of the most highly respected generals in history. While Alexander was an intelligent and strong general, his true magnificence and legacy was in the expansion of Greek culture. He changed the Mediterranean world like no one else could and through panhellenism,he created an expansion
Most immigrants in the United States can either be part of the middle class or live in poverty. Based on the results from Ruark and Graham, low-skilled immigrants are more likely to live poverty and lack of health insurance. In their research, immigrants and their children made up about 32% of those who lives in America who does not have health insurance (Ruark and Graham “Immigration, Poverty and Low-Wage Earners”) Without statistic data, one could easily draw out a conclusion: since immigrants cannot obtain a health insurance, they cannot go to the doctor whenever they’re ill. Without proper treatment for critical diseases such as cancer, the immigrants would suffer more than they should have. Besides the lack of health insurance, there are numerous of cases of deportation of illegal immigrants. Luis H. Zayas and Mollie H. Bradlee’s article “Exiling Children, Creating Orphans: When Immigration Policies Hurt Citizens” explores the impact of deportation on the immigrant’s families and their children. According to the article, in 2012, the government had deported about 409,849 illegal immigrants back to their country. If the deportation only involved the entire family then the issue is not very serious, but it is serious when the illegal immigrant have a child with an American citizen, thus making the child an American citizen. At this point, the child’s family have to decide whether to leave the child in the United States or bring the child with them. If the parents choose
