When working in a team, unified care is a central aspect that can either help you provide excellent or poor treatment and care. The institutionalization of the opportunities for the teams to interact on a regular basis is gratifying to the members and also to the organization. The intent is to share perspectives (Clark, 2010 cited by Weiss et al 2014). The sharing of perspectives and the acceptance is built on team members trusting one another based on open and honest communication. Trust is truly an ethical principle that no leader would want to violate.
The issue of inter-professional communication is a critical aspect of contemporary healthcare to enhance team communication and collaboration; its unique principle is the ability of building mutual trust, understanding and support in healthcare environment (Portsmouth, Coyle & Trede, 2012). Within a health care setting communication is a necessity. Conflict within interprofessional health care team collaboration has adverse implications for patient safety. Failure of staff to communicate effectively causes misunderstandings and mistakes, which have a negative impact on patients. Gilardi, Guglielmetti, and Pravettoni (2014) state that staff conflicts result in the decrease of staff’s job satisfaction and increase of turnover, which is obviously bad for health care outcomes. Coupled with clinical discrepancies, a culture of health care conflict results in faulty and occasionally incomplete exchange of information that elevates the potential of health risks and inevitable deaths.

There are various examples in this movie in which the importance of professional communication is portrayed and supports the argument, as well. These types of examples and supporting data can also be found in real life testimonies of what type of situations can result from lack of professional communication in the health care setting. Communication teaches the importance in human-to-human contact that some hospitals and health care setting may lack due to the certain personality type that is more attracted to the roles of doctors. Professional communication should remain at the forefront of bed side manner and proper etiquette in the health care field and setting.
Successful teamwork and collaboration directly affects the efficacy of interdisciplinary communication. When effective communication is achieved within the healthcare team, this increases the amount of positive patient outcomes. Nurses and physicians must cooperate in order to attain a synergetic relationship. Their roles are integral to creating a safe environment for their patients. When all of these elements combine, the quality of care improves and collegial relationships are strengthened.
