After my informative speech about Charles Darwin I can see strengths and weakness of my speech. I see more weaknesses in my speech then I do strengths. I know that with this speech I have a lot to learn. My informative speech will be a learning lesson from my strengths which is transition and opening with an impact, and my weaknesses which is confidence, use of the floor, rate of speech, and my eye contact. In my informative speech one of my strengths is my transitions between main points in the speech. In my speech they connected each main thought together. I also believe that my transitions linked all the thoughts together to form a time line. Another strength I have in my informative speech is my opening line. I believe my opening line made an impact on my audience. I believe it caught their attention and made them start listening to my …show more content…
My first weakness is my confidence in my speech. I need to have more confidence in what I am speaking to my audience, I know a whole lot about Charles Darwin but yet in my speech I did not come across as if I was sure about myself. I will need to work on this for my audience to know I am confidant in my speech.
My second weakness is the use of the floor when giving my speech. I did not move around like I should have. I need to make sure to move more when giving my speech. Having an isle made me feel like I had to stay right in the center of the isle and not move. I know now the next time I am giving a speech to move the chairs a different way.
The rate in which I was talking in my informative speech is another weakness. I think I had too much information to speak to my audience about but I did not have enough time. In result I had to have a fast rate to get all my information in about Charles Darwin. I have learned not to put as much detail in the outline so in return I can slow down when speaking to my
As a recent high school graduate I may seem to have many more weaknesses than strengths. But, when brainstorming for ideas to write about I noticed that I had many more strengths than weaknesses, the complete opposite. My strengths allow me to stand out and allow my audience to experience my writing in a positive way. I am very persuasive and can demonstrate to others the way I believe and how I feel about a topic so they can recognize the way I view a certain topic. By being persuasive it is important to show ones opinions and
During my speech, I presented many different strengths. One of the strengths that I had included having a detailed slide with many pictures. I did a good job organizing the slides on my PowerPoint while incorporating various amounts of pictures. The pictures that included went along with what I was presenting. Another strength that I possessed was finding research about my topic. Research is one of the most important
The strengths in my speech were very beneficial to the overall effect that my speech had on my audience. My presentation, emotional appeal, and topic commitment were the ones that I feel were the most obvious and important. Firstly, I feel that my PowerPoint was very vital in driving home the point that I was trying to get across to the audience.
One of the things I noticed in my speech was how many times I looked at the screen. I didn’t realize how many times I looked at my prop until I watched myself on video. It was distracting and took away from what I was saying to my audience. Additionally, I feel like I could have improved speaking about the different experiments performed. I feel like they were rushed and I should have stuck to talking about only one or two experiments instead. With my time being rushed, I feel like I couldn’t explain as much of the experiments as I wanted to or as in depth. Lastly, I should have worked on the conclusion for my speech. I wasn’t able to come up with a good conclusion, so it felt as if I left some of the speech left hanging. I mentioned ethical issues performed in the experiments without actually going over it in the speech. Next time, I know I will come up with a solid ending and just wrapping up ideas I already went over in class. I know that for my persuasive speech, I will work on my eye contact, slowing down, and coming up with a solid ending.
I am writing to you concerning my strengths and weaknesses when it comes to writing, reading, and speaking. When it comes to writing, I believe that my weakness is using words appropriately. My strength, however, is my ability to clearly convey my ideas. As for reading, I am not a big fan. Therefore, my weakness would be my lack of motivation to open a book or any sort of reading material for that matter. Whenever I do find the motivation to read, I am usually able to comprehend subject matter easily. When it comes to speaking, I believe that it is my strongest delivery method. I like to talk to others and I am not afraid to voice my opinion. I would have to say that my weakness for speaking would be staying on topic. Needless to say, I have
I ensured whilst I made my presentation that I spoke clearly and steadily. I have a tendency to talk quickly so I paid particular attention to controlling the speed of my voice. I also ensured I maintained eye contact with my audience and tried not to focus just on one individual.
In the informative speech, I didn’t many things that were admired and distracting during the speech, and I hope to improve on those distracting interrupting acts on my next speech. During the speech, I did some items that were a little distracting through the speech. As I watched my speech I noticed I had some awkward pauses, bad transitions, some um’s, and a little stuttering throughout the speech. If you look at the speech I tend to stutter which is a little distracting. Talking about the festival Diwali I talk about Rangoli and its colored pattern I stutter and forget what I am explaining. Another thing I could improve on is my transitions when hearing the speech, the transitions are a little rough and not as smooth. During the transition when I switch from talking about the celebrations to the language I say, “with all these celebrations it tends to bring many religions and languages together” doesn’t really make sense and could be spoken a little smoother. Stuttering is also a part of the speech I did during the speech which distracting. Throughout the speech, I stutter during different parts and one of those parts being when I am talking about the different traditions when eating Indian food. I say, “some of the traditions when people eat in India are well we all we eat on our hands,” which is a little annoying. During the speech, I also said um’s during the speech. When citing my source on languages I said some ums, repeating the citation from the notecard. During the speech I had a little tough time with stuttering at moments, saying some um’s, bad transitions, and some pauses in the future I tend to improve it for the next speech.
One of the problems I faced was after many hours of practicing, I still found my self still having a memorization issue. Due to that reason, my speech was a little here and there. However, I believe after my speech the audience had a fundamental knowledge of my topic.
Also, there were some difficulties that came about during my speech, one of those difficulties being inadequate direct eye contact. During the length of the speech there were not many time where I looked up and talked directly to my classmates. Something I could have done better to improve this would be to practice even more to ensure that I wouldn’t need to look at my notecards and slides as often. I also could have practiced when to look up and have a successful glance at my audience to have improved eye contact.
If not, what could the speaker have included or focused on to make it more informative?
My introduction begins with a video in which a child asks her mother why he is so fat. It is a good start to get the attention of audience and clarify what the speech topic is about.
Throughout life we express ourselves through words. The way we present ourselves through speech says a lot about our character. The way one speaks to others can jeopardize the amount of respect and trust others have for them. From the way one pronounces a word to their posture can affect the way an audience interprets what is being said. Personally, I am not confident with my speaking skills at this point. I would like my audience to fully comprehend the concepts or facts that I would present to them. In order to do so I must improve my speaking skills I believe that a problem most people, including myself, have when giving speeches is facing an audience. Just looking out to an audience of a mere ten
My strengths include not interrupting the speaker, maintaining eye contact to show I am actively listening, and being able to think critically about complex topics. Not interrupting a speaker and maintaining eye contact are skills I acquired early in my career to display my engagement and respect for the speaker. Understanding complex topics is something I continually learn how to do. This is aided by conceptualizing detailed knowledge and constantly learning more in the areas related to my field. My main weaknesses are the following. I don’t paraphrase the message to ensure I comprehend it. Typically, halfway through a presentation or meeting I have already formed my judgements of the speaker and the content. Often, I become distracted by a single point mentioned and am unable to identify all of a speaker’s main points. Now that I have identified my primary weaknesses, I can begin to improve upon them by altering my
The biggest weakness I have is how I present direction of material. I believe that I am an effective communicator but there is always room to grow on communication especially in a classroom that is foreign and does not speak the language taught. Clear, concise instructions are key in building a classroom that functions and transitions smoothly from one activity to another, or one piece of information to the next. If a student does
My first strength in public speaking is my organization and preparation skills. I think that I am particularly skilled in creating and preparing a presentation that is straightforward and informational. I know how to effectively organize my presentation in such a manner that will appeal to my audience. In addition, I spend an ample amount of time preparing for my presentation. However, there is definitely room for improvement. I need a bit more practice in trying to make my presentations more concise. For example, I used to present to high school students on financial literacy. Initially my presentations were too long, but as my presentations progressed they were shorter while still retaining important information. I would like to hone this skill as much as I possibly can.
