Did you know Costa Rica is slightly smaller than Lake Michigan. The name of the country that I am doing is Costa Rica. It is located in central america. Costa Rica was founded September 15, 1821. The flag has a red stripe, two white stripes, and two blue stripes and a coat of arm on the red stripe. (in the middle). The flag of Costa Rica was officially adopted on September 29, 1848. The blue and white are the original colors used by the United Provinces of Central America, while the combined red, white and blue are modeled after the colors of the French Tricolore. The seven stars stand for the seven provinces of Costa Rica, and the rising sun commemorates the birth of the new nation. At the top of the coat of arms there is an inscription
Fact one.The blue stripes represent the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. The five stars represent the five nations of the United States of Central America (Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Guatemala) and the hope that the nations may form a union again.
Human habitation can be traced back more than 10,000 years but it appears Costa Rica was sparsely populated and a relative backwater in the pre-Columbian era. There is little sign of major communities and none of the impressive stone architecture that characterized the more advanced civilizations of Mesoamerica to the north and the Andes to the south. When Columbus arrived near Lim¢¢n on September 18, 1502 on his third and last voyage to the Americas, there were probably no more than 20,000 indigenous inhabitants They lived in several autonomous tribes, all with distinct cultures and customs. Costa Rica 's only major archaeological site is at Guayabo, 30 miles east of San Jos, where an ancient city, dating back to 1000 B.C. and though to
Costa Rica is currently at the population of 4,500,000. The national territory is 31,682 square miles. If you compare that to size of the United States at 3.79 million square miles, its a very small piece of land. The capital is San Jose located in almost the middle of the country. Spanish is the official language, like many of the other surrounding countries. Their currency is called colon which was named after Christopher Columbus. Catholic is
The absolute location of Costa Rica is 9.7489°North and 83.7534° West the relative location of Costa Rica is on the north and western hemisphere on a somewhat narrow piece of land that connects to north and south America that is bordered by Nicaragua,Panama,Pacifcic ocean and Caribbean sea. Costa Rica is a tropical climate zone filled with tropical rain forest, mountains cloud forests, volcanoes, coastal lowlands and exotic beaches and rivers. The human characteristics of Costa Rica are magnificent because they are a Spanish speaking country with a variety of religions such as Roman Catholic, Evangelical and Jehovah’s Witnesses. The variety’s of food are unimaginable such as gallo pinto which is rice with black beans sometimes served with scrambled eggs on the side and that’s usually a breakfast dish they also have Casado, Fried Plantains and Rondon.
Another thing they enjoy to eat is Gallo Pinto, the typical breakfast dish that includes eggs, beef, bananas, and tortillas. Every country has their own traditional clothing, even Costa Rica.
The crossed rifles are a warning that Guatemala will defend itself with force if necessary. Also the swords represent the honor of the people of Guatemala. There are two rifles that are crossed that symbolize the country's stance to protect its people and land. The riffles are surrounded by the olive branch that represents peace. I believe the country will try to solve their problem with peace but won't hesitate to fight back
“Estas flores aqui es Guaria Morada” he said pointing to a pink flower growing on the side of the path we were walking on. He was saying that it was the Guaria Morada, the national flower of Costa Rica. Alejandro also pointed the different trees out to us. The larger ones were Quanacaste, and most of the smaller ones were Costa Rican native trees that weren’t popular and almost extinct. While he was talking, a bright green frog jumped onto the tree he was talking about.
There were many flags before it and each time a new state was adopted into the US, we got a new one. The flag has 50 white stars on a blue rectangle up in the top left corner, which represent the 50 states. These stars are accompanied by 13 red and white alternating horizontal stripes representin the original 13 British colonies. The Canadian flag of today was last updated in 1965 when a design was submited to the Candian government. They had been looking for a new flag for a while and finally found one. It has two red stripes on the ends and a white square with a maple leaf on topof it.
Costa Rica is a peaceful Central American country fronting both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. It has almost 4 million residents, a stable democratic government, no army, and is host to Central America 's largest hi-tech community, including the Latin American Headquarters of Microsoft and one of Intel 's most modern chip fabrication plants. Many major US high-tech corporations maintain offices or branches in Costa Rica including IBM, Oracle, Dell, Apple, Compaq, Cisco, and others. Literacy (nearly 95%), English language and computer usage are the highest in Latin America. Costa Rica has the highest United Nations Human Development Index among all developing countries. With the abolishment of the army in 1948, the
Costa Rica’s laws are rooted in civil law rather than the common law to which Americans are accustomed. Civil law can trace its origins back to the time of the Roman Empire, which served as the foundation for the Napoleonic codes passed during the French Revolution. The Spanish law code upon which Costa Rica’s laws are based is rooted in those Napoleonic codes due to Napoleon’s acquisition of numerous countries that included Spain (Costa Rica civil law, n.d.). Laws in the country of Costa Rica are interpreted in accordance with their meanings based on history and context as well as the social environment into which those laws are to be applied. So in essence, court decisions are based on interpretations that adhere to a law’s original
According to the world History, Spanish and Portuguese were the first Europeans who arrived in Latin America, establishing colonial societies in the 16th century. Before these two empires seized power in Latin America, there were different types of civilizations namely Maya, Aztec and Inca civilizations. Many people are interested in how Conquistadors were able to defeat the million warriors of these civilizations? The first confrontation between European and Native American civilization happened when conquistadors consolidated their power in Caribbean. Spaniards were led by Hernan Cortes (who played crucial role in the collapse of Aztec Empire).
The Cuban rebels used this flag during the conspiracy of separation. In 1823, another flag that featured a golden sun was used by a secret society that wanted to liberate Cuba called “Suns and Rays of Bolivar”. Finally, in 1849, the official Cuban flag that is flown today was created. It was designed by a Cuban exile named Narciso López and was put together by Emilia Tolón.
Costa Rica, a country of Central America, covers an area of 19,730 square miles. The capital is San José. Extending from northwest to southeast, Costa Rica is bounded on the north by Nicaragua, along its 185-mile northeastern coastline by the Caribbean Sea, on the southeast by Panama, and along its 630-mile southwestern coastline by the Pacific Ocean.
Costa Rica is a very beautiful and unique place. It was my first time going there and I loved it! It was much different than the United States in ways I didn’t mind or even enjoyed. We saw many things and went many places while we were down there. I am ready to go back again already and do new, exciting things. However, we did a lot while we were down there.
Banana Republic – Minor C. Keith provided financial services to the government of Costa Rica. In return, he won long-term leases for lands and railroad lines. By 1913, Keith’s United Fruit Company exported 50 million bunches of a bananas a year to the United States. The bananas also played a significant role in the governments and economies of Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras. Because of this, Costa Rica was referred to as a banana republic (as were other countries who depended on one primary resource for most of their economic influx).
