The Cuban flag has a unique set of meanings and history that make it what it is today. Its colors are similar to that of the United States and Puerto Rico. In fact, Puerto Rico and Cuba have almost the exact same design except the blue and red are reversed. Many attempts were made to create a flag for the independent and free Cuba. The design, history, and etiquette of the Cuban flag are what make Cuba unique.
The design of the flag includes three colors. They are red, blue, and white. Three blue stripes that alternate with two white stripes are horizontal on the flag. The Cuban rebels used this flag during the conspiracy of separation. In 1823, another flag that featured a golden sun was used by a secret society that wanted to liberate Cuba called “Suns and Rays of Bolivar”. Finally, in 1849, the official Cuban flag that is flown today was created. It was designed by a Cuban exile named Narciso López and was put together by Emilia Tolón.
The etiquette of the Cuban flag is very strict and all flag rules must be followed. The flag should never drag on the ground and if it is faded or worn out it should be taken down and replaced with a new one. The tattered Cuban flag should be respectfully destroyed in a dignified manner. The Cuban flag should never fly above another national flag to show that there is no superiority. It should be lifted briskly and lowered respectfully. The Cuban flag represents an independent country, so is should not be treated with disrespect.
The flag of Cuba symbolizes the freedom that was achieved. The battlefield brought about the idea of flying a flag for the independence. After three tries, Cuba created a symbolic flag that represented freedom, equality, and strength. The Cuban flag should always be the first hoisted and the last to be lowered. This makes sure the flag of Cuba always receives well-deserved
