An organization called the Independent Adoption Center is an open adoption agency that works has facilitated adoptions in 49 states with couples and individuals who are looking to adopt. They have no exclusionary policies and restrictions towards race, religion, age, martial status, sexual orientation, or gender identity. The IAC has indicated that families that are transgender have the same wait time as heterosexual, gay male, and lesbian couples. Additionally they indicated that no state prohibits transgender parents from adopting children. The only thing that is different however is when individuals want to adopt. At this time, Mississippi and Utah prohibit adoptions by lesbians and gay men. Also there has only been about five placements

Therefore, this paper is going to demonstrate the historical aspect of LBGT youth in foster care, the prevalence of the issues that the foster care system has, current services that are available, and a personal analysis on this topic.
Not all faith-based adoption agencies are “anti-lgbt”; however when taking federal tax dollars to fund the organization, none of them should be allowed to turn away any eligible people from adopting purely based on their sexuality or gender identity. Adoption agencies that turn potential adoptive parents away do a disservice to everyone involved, including the children themselves. Not allowing people to adopt from them due to religious reasons do not have very much evidence in their favor. The reason the family may decide to try to adopt from these places in the first place are the fact they make up 17 of the 62 agencies in Michigan (See Chart

In 2014, the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System reported that there were 415,129 children in foster care. They were taken away when their families were in crisis or they couldn’t be cared for. Children are happy and carefree but the young child pictured above is disheveled. Her hair looks unkempt, as if not brushed for days. Redness under her eyes and the cuts on her lips disrupt the once perfect porcelain skin. Her eyes appear glossy and the single tear seems as if she’s trying to not show her pain. The picture as a whole resembles a mug shot. Unfortunately many children also resemble her physical condition. Social workers are usually working twice the amount of cases recommended and therefore overlook
According to the 2015 Adoption and foster care Analysis and reporting system (AFCARS), 427,910 children were in the US foster care, making Foster care one of the social issues in the USA. The US Department of Health and Human services (HHS) is working on this social issue for past few years but is still not getting positive results — every year population of Foster care is increasing by 50,000 youths. The statistics about Foster care system is changing every day. Some things that people don’t know about foster care is that they will not only lose their children—they had lost parental rights and had broken the laws, so this can lead to a punishment. There are many laws related to foster care. Once the parents had lost the children, the children
Rafaela Course Proff Date The depiction of gender roles and sexuality in “The Piano” Throughout history and even in today’s modern society, the concept of gender roles is a matter in which many individuals from all over have frequently questioned and discussed its significance. “Quote of todays society”, however in the film “The Piano”, the views on gender roles appear more unfair and discriminatory especially towards women.
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) was put under a microscope during the summer of 2014 after the public learned that dozens of veterans died while awaiting medical care in multiple veterans’ hospitals (Andrews, 2014a). After beginning an investigation, it was discovered that veterans were forced to wait exorbitant amounts of time in order to see doctors, specialists, have tests run, and receive other kinds of medical care (Andrews, 2014b). President Barack Obama and Congress took quick action to investigate the claims and provide new legislation to remedy the newfound, but long lasting problems.
The intense opposition of transracial adoption is evidenced in a multitude of different ways. During the initial phase of the adoption process prospective parents are discouraged from proceeding by the intake worker. They are constantly bombarded with the alleged difficulties involved in transracial adoptions and questioned about their motives for adopting (Adoption 85). Parents are accused of
Should gays and lesbians have the same rights to adopt as heterosexuals? The laws of most states permit an unmarried person to be an adopted parent. However, many states have enacted laws limiting and in some cases prohibiting, lesbian and gay men from adopting. Adoption of children by lesbian and gay men remains controversial. A court must first find that the best interest of the child will be served by the adoption. Some courts have strongly rejected the notion that adoption by a lesbian or gay parent could ever be in the best interest of a child. This applies to same sex unions as well. Yet the United States has many children waiting to be adopted. Older children and those with special needs are the hardest to
Recently, research has shown that gay and lesbian parents share the parental characteristics of support, protection, and stability that children need. Sexual orientation should not be problem when adopting children. Children adopted by same-sex couples are more likely to be placed with parents who are patient, dedicated to their children, and have respect for the differences of the
Since the 1990’s approximately 8-10 million children in the US alone are raised in a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT) household. Same-Sex Adoption is controversial because many people throughout the world are against LGBT adoption; but when faced with the number of kids who pray everyday for someone out there wanting to be the parent of a foster child, it is difficult to understand why the topic of gay adoption is controversial. Yes, there can be a bad outcome but there can also be a very good outcome of these kinds of adoptions. The LGBT Adoption situation can be fixed by allowing any adult or parent to adopt a child if they have the right living environment or the knowledge and skills that it takes to raise a kid in the proper way. But social workers have reservations on considering gay adoptive parents because they are fearful of how the parents will treat and raise the children and how they will grow up feeling. People who oppose same sex marriage, including U.S. elected officials, have argued that a child raised by a LGBT parent will need additional emotional support or will face social challenges compared to children with heterosexual parents (Borreli). Although many people believe that LGBT parents shouldn’t be allowed to adopt because it affects the child, LGBT parents should be allowed to adopt because many kids need a place to call home or someone they can call family, they need someone in a similar situation that they can talk
“State policies banning gay men and lesbians from fostering or adopting children hurt everyone involved” (Hunt and Krehely). Banning same sex couples from adopting is taking away that child’s chance at being able to be in a loving, stable environment and this could dramatically affect the outcome of their lives. There are many positive advantages that the child can get if they were adopted by a lesbian or gay couple.
“ There are approximately 100,000 children and/ or adolescents who are in the Child Welfare System waiting to be put into foster care or be adopted” (Kreisher). The number of children living with 1 Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender (LGBT) parent today ranges from six to fourteen million children or adolescents. Adoption is to take into one’s family legally and raise as one’s own child.
“About 19 percent of same-sex couples raising children reported having an adopted child in the house in 2009, up from just 8 percent in 2000.” As society changes there opinions on same-sex marriage they more gays and lesbians are adopting. There was recent rise in same-sex adoption but there is still people in U.S. that are against same-sex adoption. Recently a judge in Kentucky objected gay and lesbian adoption. This caused a huge uproar and had people thinking whether or not gay and lesbian adoption is okay for the children. One article feels that state legislators are putting more hurdles in the way of adoption and preventing children from getting into loving and caring homes (“Adoptions are declining,”2017). Gays and lesbians being able to adopt will provide loving homes, get kids out of foster care, and they choose to be parents.
