There are many different things a person can do to improve their skills as a writer. Some are as simple as read more and write a lot. A good strategy that I use is to write down all of my ideas as soon as I think of them. Having these written down helps because they can inspire me and help me go directly into writing. That blank piece of paper staring at you may be intimidating, but don’t think about it, just start writing. A really good way to improve your writing skills is to practice.
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
How can I become a better writer? Throughout my writing experiences, I have learned I have many weaknesses along with strengths. My experiences with writing has not always been the best, but over time, with lots of practice and instructions from my instructors, I can proudly say that I have gained a better understanding on the layout of essays and papers. As well as understanding how to write correctly my goal as a writer is to learn how to overcome my weaknesses and use my strengths to my highest ability. I have many strengths, weaknesses and goals that I plan to achieve and overcome in my college career.
From writing thoughtful poems to research papers, I have experienced composing a diverse portfolio of literary analysis and criticisms throughout the school year. I started out the year writing minimally. By the end of the year, I noticed I was able to express my ideas and thoughts in a more clear and concise way on paper. Ultimately, each composition allowed me to widen my horizons as a writer and see how I could improve as a writer.
So I have become a way better writer than how I ever been in my high school career. My vocabulary has extended dramatically since being in Humanities Amp. I feel that i am a better writer, I used to use run-on sentences a lot in my essays and any other form of writing. I hate using big words, i know that means you have a large vocabulary, but i don’t really care about that. I feel that I don’t need to show that, but it is good to have it. I feel that i can improve more ,but I have become a great writer.

I think there are some areas that still needs to be improved in my writing. For example, I have always struggled with reaching the minimum length of the essays that I have written in this semester. I also need to work faster on my assignments, and mapping out a timetable would be great solution in order to finish on time.
One of the tips that has really helped me the when writing and improving my writing is, write your thoughts before organizing them. My mind flows when I am writing a paper or thinking about the topic and I sometimes forget to write everything down, so before I write a paper I sit down and really think about my topic, then I just write words and phrases that come to mind so that when I start my paper I have a general idea about what I want to write.
This portfolio is a great example of how I improved as a writer. This second semester of duel enrollment English has helped me improve not only on becoming a better writer but as well as becoming more mature as a person and has helped me with time management. My entire life, reading and writing have always been my weaknesses. Coming from a Hispanic household, the way things are said and written does not usually translate the same way to English. As much as I have always tried to push myself and keep improving, I feel like I have reached a point where I need a small push and guidance to take my writing to the next level. This semester I was surprised by how much I actually learned and developed my writing skills. I was given the opportunity to learn the many steps that it is required to become a good writer. Writing requires a lot of work. It consists of various steps; prewriting, drafting, rewriting, proofreading and publishing. . All of these components are extremely important, and necessary, and will need to be follow to improve student’s writing.
Something that I can also do to help my writing is to always read what I wrote out loud. When I say out loud, I mean out loud! My mother had excellent penmanship and strong writing skills, I presumed that she was just born with these skills until she shared her secret with me. Practice and Tenacity! Becoming an effortlessly brilliant writer is a skill that has to be nurtured and desired; which does not appear magically complimentary of dear fairy godmother. Needed to improve my writing skills is important to me as a person, an aunt, a professional, a student. I have used several strategies to help me improve these skills. First, I ensure that I had a space for my studies and all the materials needed, including my books. Being a Care Manager contributed to my improvement since I have to communicate with various members of my team daily; therefore, I practice my writing constantly. I have shared my drafts with close friend and listen to their constructive criticism whether I agreed or not, but the final work is mind completely. I have used various resources from my textbooks, online sources and programs on my laptop. I sometimes stay late at work to complete my academic work because it tends to be quiet in the evening and at times I would go to the library because of the lack of distraction. Having strong writing skills is a process and the more I work at it, the better I will become.
To be a writer you must write. This is the most important piece of advice. Write anything, even if it's as flat as the floor. The more you use words, the more they become willing to be used by you.
