In this essay it will be discussed how the theme identity played its role in the film “The Sapphires”. It will also see why young people have difficulties when it comes to knowing who they are. There will also be a further discussion about why friends and family can help on deciding who you are and why even some older people have to ask themselves who they are.

In the file “The Sapphires” it is shown that young people have difficulties when it comes to knowing who they are. Throughout the film Gail, Cynthia, Julie and Kay all struggle with knowing who they are yound. As they mature and become themselves, they slowly find their identities.

In the film "the Sapphires", Julie, Kay Gail and Cynthia all try to help each other with finding what their identities are. As shown with the fight with Kay and Gail. Dave, the man who's all about soul music, tries to help the four super stars find their identity as he's older and more mature. Although he still tries to find his own identity he manages to find the four girls' identities before he finds his. Throughout the film, the four girls manage to mould each other’s identities, helping each other with their relationships, their singing and dancing talents, and their image. The four girl’s parents try to help assume their identities and discover themselves. this shown when they are provided with the news of the girls going to Vietnam, as Julie's mum says, "I suppose Gail and Cynthia can go, Julie stays here. She's too young." This is something that Julie isn't very happy with as she storms off while fail is quite impressed. These points show that family and friends can help you discover who you are, whether it be through easy or hard
