My desire to start a career in public health started many years ago with a part-time job at a dental office while I was still in high school. I was introduced to the dental field at age sixteen and at my early age I discovered my passion for helping people with their oral and overall health. After I graduated from high school I decided to go to hygiene school I wanted to specialized in preventive oral health care. As a hygienist I have learned majority of patients are not aware of the importance of a healthy mouth and how poor oral health may lead to other health problems. I’m very thankful for my skills and ability and for the opportunity to be able to help others with their dental needs. On my free time I enjoy and love to volunteer throughout
I am writing to express interest in working with Sunrise Dental as a dental hygienist. I believe my skills, hard work ethics, and passion for preventive oral care will make me an asset to your team.
As a Dental Hygienist with a lifelong interest in learning, a strong professional commitment, and a passion for dental hygiene, I believe that a positive and collaborative environment not only supports student learning but helps to ensure student success. I believe that my strong organizational skills combined with effective leadership, and excellent communication skills will both support and encourage student learning. I enjoy working as part of a team to set priorities, accomplish goals and work towards a vision. With 3 years’ experience in a practice specializing in periodontics, I believe that I can provide valuable insight not only into the technical aspects of scaling and root planning but also patient centered care and the ADPIE process.
My ambition to study for a degree in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy has developed out of several years’ experience of working as a dental nurse in support of professional dental technicians and a growing interest in the science involved in dentistry. I am very much aware of the importance of the hygienist’s role in maintaining the patient’s dental health, and indeed ultimately helping to secure general health through careful attention to oral conditions. My work as a nurse has made me realise the importance of a full understanding of the physiology of the mouth and gums and of the whole body. I have been struck by how common periodontal diseases are in patients who come for dental treatment and have an immense faith in the value of preventive
Reading over the outcomes and objectives, how will the skills developed in this class apply to your chosen career or field of study? If you are “undecided,” how will these skills help you in your future in college and in general?
“The joy of changing a person’s life by creating a beautiful, healthy smile is one of the intangible rewards of being a dentist that cannot be measured.” Dianne Glasscoe, RDH. With that, my overall mission is to educate every patient, and help them to understand and achieve a lifetime of dental health. These purposes and philosophies are just two of the many reasons behind my pursuit for a career as a dental hygienist, and now to further my knowledge and become a dentist. Years ago, an elementary class of 15 students were selected to go on a field trip to a local dental office.
Deciding what you want to do for the rest of your life is never easy; in part because you never know what the future has in store. Furthermore, there are endless possibilities to take into consideration. A desire to help others has always been a passion of mine and I envision myself in a service oriented career path. With a great deal of time, soul searching, research and careful consideration, I have come to realize that pursuing a degree in dental hygiene will help me reach my goals and fulfill my dreams. Dental Hygienists are patient, understanding, detail-oriented and passionate about oral hygiene. They possess leadership skills and enjoy daily interaction with patients. I embody these character traits and look forward to educating
Theoretically, it takes ten thousand hours of deliberate practice to become an expert in any field. I intend on not only dedicating approximately nine hours a day for the three years, that I hope to spend at Newcastle University, but the rest of my working life in the dental industry. I have researched and shadowed a dental hygienist therapist and I firmly believe they are an invaluable asset to the dental care team. I would thrive from the independence and clinical freedom to work, within the scope of practice, on a one to one level with patients. I believe I can make a difference, particularly building the confidence of sporadic and nervous attendees adhering to a holistic and preventative approach.
Everything that I am currently learning from my senior clinics is helping me improve on skills that I still need to work on. Seeing my mentor perform the skills ill be doing anytime soon, gives me an introduction on what to expect. The experiences that I am gaining are going to help me become a great hygienist in my future. Learning how to gain great interproximal skills is an important skill that will help me work well with others along with my patients.
Most of my free time is spent involving myself within my community. I volunteer at Celerity Dyad Charter School, St. Odilia School, church youth group, and cleaning my community. I enjoy helping out since I know I’m improving my community. These experiences have helped me develop skills of interacting with people from different cultures. I also involve myself at school with Cooking club, Delta club, Spanish club, Dance team, Folklorico team, National Honor Society, and Bachata team. I will continue being an involved person because I get to experience different places and people.
The oral condition of a patient’s mouth is not only important to their health, but also to the patient’s self-esteem; however, for many treatments to be carried forward, the condition of a patient’s gums and mouth needs to be stable and controlled. My work as a dental nurse has introduced me to another side of health and wellbeing for the oral cavity and from understanding the physiology of the mouth and how this can affect the whole body. I never realised how common periodontal diseases were, until patients came in for dental treatment; the value of preventative care and education to patients is one perseverance and trust. Dental nursing required many skills which included teamwork, communication, care and patience among many; over the two years of training, I know my skills have been enhanced by the support and guidance of other dental professionals during my training.
At that time I felt that if I knew more about the body then I could have helped her before she had to face serious health issues. That was the biggest source of inspiration for me to become a part of healthcare world and devote myself to help others. I am very pleased to achieve my primary goal after becoming a successful Dental Hygienist (RDH). During my few last visits to my doctor's clinic, I have been mostly diagnosed and treated by Physician Assistant (PA). Some of my earlier conversations with PA about
It is evident that it is truly where my head, heart and hands, become one. Being a dental hygienist and working in close proximity with the dentist has served to strengthen my desire to take my education and service to the next level. I want to increase my knowledge about the science behind dentistry and learn everything I need to know to be a great dentist and apply it into practice. Improve constantly and strive to provide the highest quality of oral health care available to patients by delivering meticulous, gentle, thorough, reassuring dentistry and exceeding patient satisfaction. Dentistry without a doubt, is the profession for me. I believe I have the qualities that are essential to making a great dentist along with the academic motivation in order to replace my interest for dentistry with the expertise that will help me provide quality oral care. If my greatest aspirations are to provide pain relief, to develop patient rapport, and utilize creativity in working with my hands, then dentistry is, indeed, my
At the age of thirteen, I decided that I wanted to become a dentist. I have since read countless dental textbooks explaining everything from anatomy to treatment of oral diseases. My junior year of high school, I entered the Dental Assistant program at the Clark County Skills Center. Through the program I gained the knowledge needed to become a dental assistant. The Skills Center further strengthened my decision to become a dentist by teaching me how the dental world truly functions. In December of 2105, at the age of 16, I became a Certified Dental Assistant and began working at Design Dentistry. Working at Design Dentistry with Dr. Wenzinger has inspired me to continue my education, and I plan to further my education to become a dentist.
Serving an underserved population has always been my motivation to become a dentist. Throughout my life I have excelled in crafts and am exceptionally talented with my hands. As a result, it has continually been my dream to be in a profession where I could use my hands to change a person’s life by easing their pain or helping them smile again. Being given the opportunity to finally achieve this would be invaluable. I truly want to make a positive difference in this world. This desire has provided me the grit to overcome adversity and withstand the challenges I have faced while applying to dental school. Since helping people is something that I am extremely passionate about, I have had numerous wonderful volunteer experiences throughout the
This year has went by so fast! However, it was much more stressful with board exams vastly approaching, it was also easier now that I was in the swing of things. I don’t’ think twice when picking up a gracey, muscle memory just knows what to do! Although I am not perfect, I believe I am a safe beginner to practice in a dental office. This brings me great joy! As I have been waiting for this day to come for a long time. I’m so thankful to have had this experience, although it was not an easy one. I feel incredibly blessed to have been taught by the best, in such a well-organized clinic. I’m in awe with the patience the instructors have had with me, and my classmates as we learned what to prioritize and made personal improvements. In a strange way I will miss the pressure of school.
