Most of my free time is spent involving myself within my community. I volunteer at Celerity Dyad Charter School, St. Odilia School, church youth group, and cleaning my community. I enjoy helping out since I know I’m improving my community. These experiences have helped me develop skills of interacting with people from different cultures. I also involve myself at school with Cooking club, Delta club, Spanish club, Dance team, Folklorico team, National Honor Society, and Bachata team. I will continue being an involved person because I get to experience different places and people.
Thank you for accepting our invitation to your induction as a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society on March 23, 2016.
During my free time I love to play on the computer, and to play soccer and basketball. I also volunteer in a community center.
Leadership Abilities can have many characteristics and meanings to a person. I took the time to look at characteristics and success of a leader to choose just one of the many leaders to discuss. Some of the characteristics that are involved in leadership is “Responsibility, Learners, share victory, Set an Example, aren’t afraid to make mistakes, push people upward, peacemakers, adapt their thinking, sense of humor, work hard, confident, promote unity, action-oriented, do the right thing, integrity, encourage, persevere, and courageous” (James River Church, 2017). One Leader that shows these characteristics is Mother Teresa.
I am very involved in volunteer work because working to make a better world is very dear to my heart. I was the Senior Class Representative of my high school service club and my job was to organize a lot of events. I was heavily involved in the committee for our Mini Dance Blue Marathon, and loved dancing the night away for the kids. I loved working with kids and helping to shape them so I have volunteered at day camps such as Winshape Camp Foundation and Camp Can-I-Go for a few years.
On my free time I enjoy and love to volunteer throughout
Leadership, service, and character are important traits for a National Honor Society Members because they are a model for their peers. National Honor Society Members should influence their peers to do good for their community.
Analyzing the list of ID numbers, I was absolutely ecstatic when mine popped up. I turned to my best friend, who had a smile as wide as mine, “We’re in!” we yelled, high-fiving and cheering our way down the hall. Being a part of the National Honor Society does not seem like a huge accomplishment to other people, however to me it was the absolute best feeling in the world. Growing up, I witnessed my older brother throw away most of his academic ability. He did not bother to study for his classes, he never once picked up a book, and he never even applied to be a part of this distinguished society despite my mom urging him to do so. Seeing this, I have strived to be the polar opposite of the average high school student the way my brother was. My grades have reflected exactly how hard I have worked, and I have constantly pushed myself to work harder because I would never want to jeopardize my spot in this program. Taking the leap and applying to National Honor Society and being inducted only gave me more confidence in myself and has shaped me to be a more organized student.
Moreover, I often volunteer to do service in my community. I have been doing volunteer work for Walk for Hunger since from 2011. Also I participate many times in school food bank, which school donates food to families who need help. It was a wonderful experience because I was able to help out my community in a positive way. I like to be there for people who are in need because it shows people that I am a caring and loving them.
Through experience in student government, national honor society, and leadership, my passion for helping others has grown. By emerging in public policy and international relations, I can learn the different levels (district(市町村), prefectures, Japan, and internationally) in order to run a civilized society. With law, I can communicate with representatives from different countries by sharing the latest issues and the laws that applies. Students may attend college in Japan to pursue their career there, but, I would like to not only adjust to the society in Japan but be able to work internationally with the diversity ICU provides.
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
Helping others has always been a passion; I used to pretend I was a teacher in order to help my younger brother learn math, I was the youngest volunteer at my YMCA leadership camp and it has never felt like work for me. I get a sense of happiness seeing others smile due to my effortless acts of kindness and once I learned how easy it was to just give back to the community that is a part of me I couldn't stop. I work with grace family church weekly (I have had to slow down due to my courses and work schedule, along with a baby brother who screams and cries every time I walk out the door) volunteering my time to put hot food onto the plates of those in need and just talk to them while they enjoy their food. It was extremely eye opening to see young women my age with hungry children, and people that looked just like my grandparents struggling to find a meal every night; the services I help to provide mean so much to these people and it makes me want to keep going back when I see everyone leave with a smile, I have made so many friends and I have seen situations that many kids my age have not become accustomed to yet and it can seriously change one’s perspective on life. Volunteering with the ecology club and even interacting with the environment on my own time has completely impacted the things I am passionate about and this service-paired with a year in AP Environmental science- opened up an entire realm of knowledge I previously had no idea about. Cleaning up my community and thinking up ways to raise awareness about the environment are two of my favorite things to do in my pastime and this community service has even influenced my idea of what I would like to minor in while attending the university I chose. I never thought I would enjoy learning about the environment but I now would like to
In my free time I’ve been involved in a Bible Study, Math Club and Clean Snowmobile Club. The reason I’m a part of Clean Snowmobile is because it not only provides and invaluable hands on experience but also allows you the opportunity to be innovative. This innovation is key to finding solutions that enhance the snowmobilers’ experience while also reducing the effects on the environment. Another use of my time is spent giving back to the community. One of my favorite memories was when I helped people with disabilities paint pumpkins for Halloween. A beautiful thing about community service is that it does not have to be planned and the idea can occur unexpectedly. For example, one time I was running after a snowstorm and as I was just about to pass a church I noticed their sidewalks had not yet been shoveled. Furthermore, a church
During the summer I enjoy volunteering at the local recreation center in various sports camps. While at camp I provide the children with a positive role model to follow. In addition, I assist the camp staff in providing a safe and fun environment that promotes growth and learning. During the school year I peer tutor for classes with students struggling in math. A majority of those students have difficulties understanding grade level math concepts. By interacting with students one on one I can help identify and fill the gaps in their learning.
In my free time, I volunteer at public parks and local river clean up that I know about through friends and emails I have received. In addition, at the beginning of the year I help kindergarten’s teachers watch after the kids, make crafts with the kids, and cut out various crafts that correspond with the book that they were reading that day. In addition, my friend and I would read books the children picked out towards the end of the year so they teachers could clean their classrooms or simple watch them while there was a movie playing. When I go back to school my mother and I make food bags and give them to the homeless in Mobile. During Memorial Day weekend, I help with a ceremony that takes place in the Alabama National Cemetery. Before the
Being involved in my community in any possible way I can is very important to me. Having a busy schedule and being involved in many organizations and events can teach many life lessons for example organization skills, time management and leadership qualities, which are some of the key characteristics to making a well rounded adult ready to tackle anything in their future.
