Hello Dr. Culver, This is Damian form your Monday's & Wednesday's 12:30 pm class , it came to my attention that there seemed to be some problems relating to the test we just took on chapter 2 of the Human Sexuality class. Personally, im under the impression that i took the new exam although it had no timer applied to it and some of the question's apparent responses seem a little contradictional. On this questions for example # 1; "Which of the following statements regarding the desire phase of sexual response is true?" , #2; In which of the following areas would Masters and Johnson's research on sexual response be least helpful?, #3; Which of the following most accurately describes the plateau phase?, the book clearly states that this is
I think Kinsey became obsessed with human sexuality because he wanted to create change and increase the awareness of this subject. Throughout this film you can see his intensity and his drive to do research as well as studying human’s sexual acts. Not only did he want to create awareness but Kinsey also wanted to unravel all the secrets regarding human sexuality. It’s crazy to think that back then people were not willing to talk about anything sexual. In the film, it shows how people were not educated and knew little to nothing about sexuality. It blows my mind that people know almost nothing about something so natural. Now a day’s sex is everywhere. Sex is how we sell everything from perfume to cars.
In class we defined “culture” as, “an organized system of learned beliefs and behaviors made manifest by groups distinctive from one another. Culture is not innate but does rest on the biological base of complex symbolic capacity. Culture is primarily transmitted through language, it is cumulative, includes artifacts as well as attitudes and is humankind 's chief adaptive mechanism”. As humans and citizens of society when we think of culture this definition probably doesn’t come to mind to the average individual, however, we still recognize how important culture is and how much it affects us. Human Sexuality was a very riveting class that exposed me to different realms of culture that I had no idea about.
Peil et al. (2003) studied this phenomenon in detail. For dominant markers, five different polymorphic configurations are possible in a single cross when female and male progeny are considered separately and they found four of them. For 43 AFLP markers, complete co-segregation between the AFLP fragment and male sex was observed. Twenty-three sex-linked AFLP markers showed other segregation patterns. There was also recombination between sex-linked AFLP markers. Peil et al. (2003) found a recombination rate of 25% between sex and the completely linked AFLP marker loci AGA*GAA510 and AGA*AAT330 on X as well as on Y.
In her text The Legal Regulation of Sex and Sexuality Mariana Valverde emphasizes the extent to which legal praxis in western liberal societies can often facilitate the existence of fragmented, and even contradictory, outcomes that thereby affect the groups in society on the receiving end of such praxes in a highly inconsistent manner, that maybe both intentional and unintentional. Specifically, Valverde outlines the methodologies by which the very same socio-political radical feminist discourse, and the resultant legal outcomes, that eventually led to the so-called liberalization of sex -and the eventual acceptance of same-sex marriage and conjugality- has simultaneously led to the continued criminalization of commercial sex work, on both
The study of human sexuality helps students in a variety of reasons. It can help students
In my Critical Annotation of the text “Human Sexuality: Diversity in Contemporary America” I focused on sexual dysfunctions. Sexual dysfunction is used to denote “a common outcome of a difficulty in sexual functioning” (Yarber, Sayad & Strong, 2010, p. 442) where
In this paper, I will discuss chronologically the major events and people who have influenced my development as a sexual person. I will begin by discussing my family. Then I will discuss my sexual partners, primarily my first and last partners. I will conclude with a self-reflection on my sexual evolution.
In today’s society things are being expressed and experienced at younger ages, than ever before in our time. Children and teenagers are discovering their sexuality at very early ages. Sexuality is the discovering of who you are and what makes you different from everybody else.
The term “sex” is a common word used in any given convsersation, whether used directly or indirectly. Human sexuality surrounds us in the biological and psychological aspects of the world. In this course, we gained the knowledge of the origin of the sexual revolution, sexually transmitted diseases, roles of men, and women in society, and how culture influenced in the shaping of human sexuality, so I think anyone would benefit from taking Human Sexuality.
Asexuality has been an elusive and intriguing subject in American society. Dr. Alfred Kinsey published reports on human sexuality where “category X” was mentioned (Asexual History, 2015). This category was used to describe individuals with a lack of sexual relationships and reactions (Asexual History 2015). In 1979, Michael Storms came up with a model of erotic orientation and this model included asexuality (Asexual History, 2015). Paula Nurius published a study observing mental health and orientation and found that asexual individuals had both a lower desire and frequency for sexual activity than compared to heterosexual, homosexual, and bisexual individuals (Asexual History, 2015).
My new partner and I went on a trip to Las Vegas last weekend. I figured out that this was a good time to bring a conversation concerning the testing for sexually transmitted infection. I am in a gay relationship. My name is Alvin while my partner’s name is Brent. It is a lovely Saturday afternoon. Brent and I have been relaxing on a couch enjoying the breeze. I decide that this is the time.
I found module three to be relatable, informative, and beneficial. The beginning of the module introduces us to the life of sexuality and leads us into societal perceptions of gender and how we relate to it in addition to various sexual orientations, which led to sexuality throughout life no matter what gender, sexual orientation, or age. In essence taking us through the beginning of sexuality to the end of sexuality, informing us that as sexual beings by nature we are born with it, live with it in all of its various forms, and continue into old age with it. It has and will continue to be apart of who we are.
Throughout the ages, our society has documented homosexuality. Within our culture, homosexuality has been largely condemned. In looking at the historical perspective of homosexuality, the responses were different with each society that was dealing with it. The Greeks were okay with it due to their belief that some of their mythical gods were engaging in homosexual behavior. Christianity denounced those sexual associations and made their belief and intentions clear that this behavior was not to continue. The legal system became intertwined with the Christian belief that homosexuality was sinful and would punish inappropriate sex acts as criminal offenses (Rathus, Nevid, & Fichner-Rathus, 2005).
Sexual intercourse is an intriguing, yet touchy subject to most individuals. There are nearly as many different beliefs in regards to the act of sex as there are for something as prominent and controversial as religion. It is a topic that the majority of individuals do not want to discuss, yet it is something that the majority of everyone is intrigued about. Throughout this research paper we will take a closer look at sexual intercourse within the human species by attempting to define what sex is, find out who partakes in this deed, determine when it is typically done, and finally reveal why it is done.
Throughout the course, Religion and Sexuality, I have gained new insights on religion and its relationship to sexuality, further, I have learned skills on how to approach people about such topics (religion and sexuality) and how to critically evaluate these subjects efficiently. Lastly, this course has enabled me to discover new qualities about myself.
