You may visit the beach every day, or you may have never seen the beach in your life, either way you have some level of connectivity to the sea. Regardless of your geographical location, or your relationship with ocean waters, their quality directly effects the quality of your life. The oceans contain about ninety-seven percent of the Earths water and cover two-thirds of the planet. They provide a source of food, recreation, bioengineering possibilities, and even the water we drink. The oceans absorb about thirty percent of the carbon dioxide we create and they produce around seventy percent of the oxygen we breath. To expand on our oceans current status, large-scale evaluations of marine biodiversity loss have revealed that, “Human impacts have depleted >90% of formerly important species, destroyed >65% of sea grass and wetland habitat, degraded water quality, and accelerated species invasions.” (Lotze et al., 2006). Intentional or unintentional, it matters not, ocean exploitation and degradation is an ongoing crisis. One solution that has been proposed to assist in averting our oceans crises is the further implementation of Marine Protected Areas (MPAs). To define Marine Protected Area, it is a discrete geographic area of the sea established by international, national, territorial, tribal, or local laws designated to enhance the long-term conservation of natural resources therein. The term and idea has been around for a few decades and is continuously being revised and improved as times change. To clarify the idea behind the definition, MPAs are small ocean zones that are established with a goal of improving ocean health, increasing the abundance of marine life, and increasing the diversity of marine life. Marine pollution is not a new phenomenon, but our acknowledgement of its impacts and severity is relatively new, with the first laws and discussions to counter it only appearing in the 1950’s. For much of history, it was thought that the oceans were so large that any pollution created would be negligible and easily diluted (Marine Pollution). Since, countless research and laws have been implemented in order to preserve our marine ecosystems because of how crucial these ecosystems are to humanity.
Drakes Hotline Bling video is four minutes and fifty five seconds filled with beautiful women, vibrant colors and witty dance moves. The oceans need to be protected because it is where life began and if not taken care of, life as we know it will end. The well-being of the ocean is constantly being threatened and needs to stop. When dangerous substances go into the ocean, ecosystems suffer and become endangered along with the lives of people and marine life. The importance of protecting and preserving the quality and biodiversity of the world 's coasts must be recognized because they are truly irreplaceable. If humans are not educated , and become careless about what is thrown on the ground or sprayed on lawns, disastrous effects follow when it comes to the condition of the ocean’s ecosystems, which can endanger life itself, leading to a problem only we can correct. There is historical evidence of ocean pollution, although the problem still shadows us today.
The ocean is two-thirds of our planet a vast blue landscape home to many biomes which according to Boyce Thorne-Miller “(ecosystem types) corresponding to sets of environmental conditions that vary with depth, latitude, and longitude” (16). However, the ocean and its biomes is under attack from the changing environment. We can see this through coral reef biomes as they make their home near the shores. Through coral reefs we can view the effects that these changes have on the ocean through how the coral reef biome is affected. Humans are a danger to the coral reefs and the wildlife that resides in the biome. The pollution being released into the environment is poisoning the coral and causes death and malformation to the wildlife. The ocean is changing due to global warming which is causing a change in the temperature and rising water levels leading to a change in the stabile areas coral can survive. The increasing acidification of the ocean is causing the coral reefs to die. I will be looking at the effects these issues cause to coral reefs biomes and the ocean to see the similarities in how they affect both.
Humans, in many ways, ruin the oceans. Pollution, oil spills, and many more terrible mistakes turn the ocean into a ‘sewer’. But, as many ways there are to destroy the ocean, there are many ways to renew it. There is still hope for our oceans and the creatures that live in them.

Two billion people within 30 miles of the coast create 100m of coastal plastic waste. We can help by reducing plastic in waste stream, and try to stop pollution. Another way we can help is by recycling (Doc.1). We cause pollution to by dumping trash and garbage onto beaches. We have to help protect oceans by monitoring the water to see if people can go swimming (Doc.2). The oceans have to stay healthy because they are a habitat to animals (OI). In 2009, Dr. Sylvia Earle wrote The World is Blue to educate and alert the reader about human impacts on marine ecosystems. Through this book she conveys her passion and methodical arguments concerning the importance of the conservation of the ocean, which encompasses approximately 80 percent of the earth’s surface. Dr. Earle states “the ocean touches you with every breath you take, every drop of water you drink, every bite you consume” (17). This statement emphasizes the significance of the ocean, not only for marine life, but all life forms on earth. The book implies that currently in today’s world, the conservation of the ocean requires a global effort to reduce human damage from the past generations. Using facts gleaned from credible scientific resources, she defines the problems of overfishing, bycatch, and pollution. By analyzing human impacts on marine ecosystems, Dr. Earle determines successful and unsuccessful solutions to these problems and suggests various ways individuals can change their lifestyles to reduce impact on the environment as a whole.
Ocean pollution is a problem that can not be solved unless everyone is focused on doing so, our world will suffer drastically in the long run if we do not fix the increasing pollution, and its not just effecting the air we breath but also the food we eat because of water contamination. Pollution gets into the sea from many sources but has the same effect, consequently swimming in our seas can make you ill. It costs big time to help decrease pollution and to study it. Poor or struggling nations will have a hard time affording it, which does not help because it has to be a world effort. Examples of evolution and adaptation are present in every organism on Earth. Organisms adapt and change according to their surroundings. As their surroundings change, they change, or they die. These are the basic concepts of evolution. Organisms will adapt to survive and thrive, or they will die out. The species alive today as a result have evolved and have undergone much change from their ancestors. Invertebrate species are just some examples of this in action, but if one was to look at the specific species of invertebrates and analyze their adaptations and traits, the evidence of evolution would be quite surprising. An astounding example of this in action is a little insect known as the honey bee.

Oceans cover approximately 75% of Earth 's surface and are vital to this planet and the people who inhabit it. Oceans provide food, natural resources, and recreation for nearly everyone in this world.
