The title of the book is Of mice and men by John Steinbeck. This story is about two guys named Lennie and George as they work on a ranch to try and get enough money to buy their own place a place where they belong. Since Lenny is a big guy who has the mind of a child, he is as nice as the child. So he is not smart enough to lie or be mean which is how Steinbeck was successful in making him sympathetic. Lennie is a dull-witted big man who cannot think on his own, which is why George can not leave him. George keeps saying that he is good taking orders as long as there no thinking required. Lennie never really thinks of the outcome what he does and does not make the reasonable decision by himself. The author describes this character as the mind …show more content…
Like when Lennie and George were in weed Lennie wanted to touch the red dress the woman was wearing. When she started yelling he got scared and held it when he did let go she said she had been raped and were chased out of weed. Lennie does not change he is a static character he does not change in the story he has the same personality as the beginning. Lennie is also a really big man who has enormous strength, but since he is a numbskull all that strength is the danger to himself and others. Lennie has shown how strong he was by barley bucking and crushing curly hand with one movement. Since he is so strong and a simpleton, this trait hurts the character and gets him in trouble. Like when he accidentally killed Curley's wife when he cared when she started screaming when he was touching her hair. Lennie has been through a lot he thinks that George does not want him because he was a handful. Also, he says that if Lennie was not there he could, but what he wants and does what he wants.. Which is why at the end of the book he wanted to go to a cave so George would have to worry about him. When George found Lennie, he said that he was never mad at
John Steinback’s Of Mice and Men is a book that describes the chase of the American Dream. Although achieving the American Dream is a great desire for all, seldom does it actually come true. George and Lennie, the two main characters in the book, have a goal of pursuing their version of the American Dream, as do many other characters. However, due to relationships and other conflicts, that dream is not achieved.
According to www.dualdiagnosis.org, in the 1930’s, “Techniques that were used on the mentally ill included insulin-induced comas, lobotomies, malarial infections, and electroshock therapy.” The novel, Of Mice and Men, written by John Steinbeck, describes the story of two migrant workers named George and Lennie, and their adventure during the Great Depression. Lennie is a man who is challenged with mental retardation. During the Great Depression, this was not an acceptable thing in society, so George acts as his caretaker and has to cover for Lennie. Eventually, George and Lennie find themselves working on a ranch where they meet new people and find themselves in trouble. I think that George did the right thing by killing Lennie. If George would not have killed him, Lennie would have been taken to the mental hospital and treated badly, if Lennie was killed by anyone else, George would have had regrets, and Lennie was at risk of getting himself and George into more trouble.
The equation is dz/dx=ky(1-z/A). dz/dx is increasing rate of zombie, z is the population and A is the capacity (50). The k value we use is the average of the k values of the second to the fourth data point, k=1.0603. The function represent z in term of t is z=A-A/(B*e^kt+1). B is another constant. The B value we use is the average of each B value of each data point, B=0.0211. So z=50-50/(0.000256*e^(2.7477t)+1).
Another one of Lennie's character traits is that he is reliant. Lennie demonstrates this trait various times in the book because he relies too much on George. One of the times when Lennie is reliant is when he relies on George to tell him what to say. George tells Lennie what to say because they think if their employer knows about what Lennie did in the other town he might not want them around. In this case Lennie relies on George to tell him what to say because George and Lennie want the job, so in case Lennie messes up George can cover for him. Lennie is also reliant when he and George are by the Salinas River and they are camping out. “Lennie just stood there while George gathered the food and fire wood” (page 12). This is important because Lennie relies on George to provide food and warmth. A final example of why Lennie is reliant is when George tells Lennie that he can’t ever talk or make any contact with Curley’s wife. “She said
Although Of Mice and Men definitely teaches young students about how the setting was set up back then, the themes of abuse and death included could be found highly inappropriate or offensive to young students today. These themes arise from the multiple abusive and gory deaths of characters throughout the novel. For example, the novel included a reoccurring scene of murder of innocent animals by Lennie including mice and puppies. Some readers are not able to handle such grimness, therefore finding it repugnant or simply unacceptable. Readers with their own pets may also feel a terrible sense of guilt and repulsiveness by simply reading the novel. Another example is portrayed when Lennie violently kills Curley’s wife by shaking her to death.
The Story Of Mice and Men is about two buddies that go on to find work or any kind of income. The only problem is that lennie, one of the main characters, has a mental disability. Thankfully George, the other main character also lennie’s best friend, is around to help lennie. In the story more characters come into play including a nice old man named candy who has been working on the farm for many years. Like George candy has to take care of his old dog that he raised from a pup. Unfortunately one of Candy’s so called buddies took the dog out and shot him for the dogs own good. In the end George also loses his closest pal. Through the story George and candy have some similarities and
While mercy and murder do have some similarities there is one huge difference, mercy killing has consent, murder does not. Sometimes it is as clear as day if it is murder or mercy. One of these times was when a twenty nine year old “Brittany Maynard fulfilled her final wish… purposely ending her own life on her own schedule…” (Briggs). This is very different from what happens in Of Mice and Men By: John Steinbeck where George kills Lennie without his consent. In Of Mice and Men George and Lennie are best friends that go on the road with each other looking for jobs. They end up working at a ranch and made some friends and some enemies. Throughout this story it is shown that Lennie is mentally disabled and is obsessed with petting soft objects,
Through a variety of literary and cinematic techniques respectively, John Steinbeck’s Of Mice And Men and Sean Penn’s Into The Wild illustrate how the fulfilment of one’s life, and their pursuit of happiness, hinge upon friendship, dreams, and one’s attitude towards life and happiness in general. Steinbeck’s 1937 novella Of Mice And Men illustrates the importance of friendship and dreams in a context of hardship and economic downturn. This is done by using George and Lennie and their dream of landownership and material possession to demonstrate how dreams give people the hope required to drive themselves, and how friendship offers them the ability to keep going even if their own spirit should break. Sean Penn’s 2007 film Into The Wild
Lennie is the gentlest person anyone could meet, he just sometimes cannot remember if he has met them or not. Lennie’s exterior is a rugged, burley kind of guy, but in this book, he is just a big teddy bear who would never dream of hurting anyone. Yet again, looks can be deceiving. Although he is willing to pick up a dead mouse so he could “pet it with [his] thumb while [they] walked along (6), there are people that are incredibly intimidated by him and his strength. For instance, Curley wanted to beat George up mainly because he was bigger than he was. Even though people associate with him, they don’t treat him like one of their own. Lennie is the muscles, that’s all. His physical appearance contradicts his mental appearance. From a distance, Lennie is a huge man who seems as though he could beat someone to the ground if they looked at him wrong, but in reality, he is nice to anyone. Due to George, Lennie can actually confront the world. Most times Lennie is not mentally stable
Of Mice And Men The novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ reveal life in the 1930’s. A time very diverse to ours. Steinback, the author of this novel wrote about various issues such as lifestyle of the travelling ranchmen, loneliness, friendship, the American dream, racism and sexism. The book is about two migrant labourers, George Milton and Lennie Small in California.
An author named john Steinbeck wrote the book Of Mice and Men. The book was written in the year 1937 and the book is accused of being racist. Students in school commonly read this. I am going to tell you about the plot how the book is built up and about the characters.
Such as when he defends himself against Curley, “I didn’t wanta,” Lennie cried “I didn’t wanta hurt him. (64)” Instead of instantly fighting back to Curley he stands there and does not move while he lets Curley hit him continuously. But, when he does fight back it is after George gives him instruction to do so. As I stated earlier Lennie doesn’t realize his strength while he also doesn’t have normal reactions to his movements. Once he fought back he was focused on fighting back, not to hurt Curley more than he had already hurt him. Lennie was following instruction and defending
The story Of Mice and Men took place during the 1930’s. That time period was very different from today. Race and gender were very important characteristics that determined whether a person had the opportunity to make money. The 1930’s were also a time where people started questioning life and the American culture. Many people like John Steinbeck thought that life was very unfair and questioned whether if life was even worth living. In Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck demonstrates that mans dream is destined to be destroyed by a cruel reality.
Of Mice and Men was written during a period of racism. In the 1960's it was important for everyone to get along with eachother because not everyone was equal. George and Lennie showed a great part in friendship throught the whole book. At the ranch in Selinas mostly everyone showed friendship in some way. Friendship was a great factor when the book was published because of all the racism going on at the time.
Lennie is mentally disabled and so always ‘does bad things’, because of this, he constantly depends on George to protect him and get him out of trouble. For example, in Weed, Lennie constantly ‘wants to touch
