Compare and Contrast Essay of Mice and Men

The real life connection that you can compare George to another person in real life is Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant is the famous NBA Star who plays for the Golden State Warriors. Kevin Durant had a hard time growing up with his two brothers , one sister and his mother. Durant had to be constantly moving from a lousy place to another, as his mother struggled to put food on the table and pay bills. I wake up to see Lennie standing over my bed and staring at me, and poking my arm. He keeps saying my name over, and over again trying waking me up. I get up and push him off of me because he is getting too obsessive. I get out of my burlap sack, and instantly feel A knot in my back. I shake it off, and pull all the ticks off of me. Lennie asks me what we are doing today even though I already told him what we were doing last night. Then I tell him that we are hauling bags of grain to the barn. I put on a rugged pair of denim overalls with a dirty white shirt underneath that stinks. I ignore the smell because I have gotten used to it. We go and get or company brekfast of slop with a side of slop. Lennie digs right in without a second thought, I on the other hand can barely choke it down, but I need the protein. Then after almost regurgitating my food Lennie, and I head off to a long day's work.

Moreover, in the book George is shown to really hate Curley, whereas in the movie, George doesn’t seem to like Curley too much but he definitely doesn’t hate him. Apart from these characters, all the others are pretty much very similar in both the book and the movie.

While mercy and murder do have some similarities there is one huge difference, mercy killing has consent, murder does not. Sometimes it is as clear as day if it is murder or mercy. Of Mice And Men The novel ‘Of Mice and Men’ reveal life in the 1930’s. A time very diverse to ours. Steinback, the author of this novel wrote about various issues such as lifestyle of the travelling ranchmen, loneliness, friendship, the American dream, racism and sexism. The book is about two migrant labourers, George Milton and Lennie Small in California.

The story of Mice and Men is about 2 men running away from a town called weed, 1930 in California. Lennie and George go on an adventure to work on a farm. Afterwards to find work they had set out and planed a goal to achieve their one dream. Imagine a wild runaway, past trees and through lakes, where dirt roads and long nights lead to your destination.

The story Of Mice and Men took place during the 1930’s. That time period was very different from today. Race and gender were very important characteristics that determined whether a person had the opportunity to make money. The 1930’s were also a time where people started questioning life and the American culture. Many people like John Steinbeck thought that life was very unfair and questioned whether if life was even worth living. In Of Mice and Men John Steinbeck demonstrates that mans dream is destined to be destroyed by a cruel reality.

     Of Mice and Men was written during a period of racism. In the 1960's it was important for everyone to get along with eachother because not everyone was equal. George and Lennie showed a great part in friendship throught the whole book. At the ranch in Selinas mostly everyone showed friendship in some way. Friendship was a great factor when the book was published because of all the racism going on at the time.

The saying “respect the older than you” wasn’t treated well at that time however, is now. With the conditions old people faced it meant it was much tougher for them people to get jobs. After they killed Candy’s dog for the reason that it was old, candy felt lonely especially since it was his only friend for a long period of time, he also hated the fact that he had no power to stop it, “candy looked helplessly at him for Slim’s opinions were law.” He was depressed when his dog is shot, “...he rolled slowly over and faced the wall and lay silent.” It reflected on the position candy was himself, filthy old, disabled, no use, features which candy and his best friend withhold. Candy and his dog was Quite similar to George and Lennie, thats because Lennie ain’t much good to George but Lennie has lived with him for a long time and is also his only friend, the same with Candy as said by Carlson “He ain’t no good to you, Candy. An’ he ain’t no good to himself.” Candy also plays a big part in the book; when he speaks you would consider him the narrator, this is because he is the source were George and Lennie are getting information about the ranch; “The swamper warmed to his gossip...” for that reason he is the gossiper.

This affected the story by making the audience really sad when they killed his dog. If he hadn’t been seen as a vulnerable person then Candy could have stopped them from killing his dog. That wouldn’t have made the audience sad. After becoming sad the audience would start to see how bad Candy is treated because of his age and understand how the discrimination was. It also affected the story by putting Candy in a mindset of wanting to get out of there, so he proposes to join George and Lennie in buying the little house. This pretty much sealed the deal for the house, until Lennie killed Curley’s wife.

The parallels between Lennie and George’s relationship and the relationship that their workmate, Candy had with his dog reaffirm the power dynamic between George and Lennie.
