This week, the most interesting article was the rabid beaver that attacked a paddle boarder. I thought this article was interesting because out of all the animals that can have rabies, beavers are not as common to contain the virus. However, it is important when in the wild to pay attention to all animals and to always be aware of surroundings. Beavers are not known to be dangerous creatures; yet, it is imperative to take necessary safety precautions to stay safe. Another common mistake is underestimating animals, although beavers seem friendly when their heads poke out of the water, they are huge and can cause harm. Another concern that a rabid beaver causes for the lake is the potential to have affected other animals. Animals such as raccoons,
Death, the one thing every person will eventually face, could be seen as an end or an entrance. What is your extent of a friendship? How far are you willing to go to help the person you care for? For many reasons, the majority of people think murder is immoral—especially if it was your own best friend. But sometimes we may have to go to the extreme, as long as we know it was the right thing to do from the heart because that’s how much you know you care. In the story Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, I strongly believe that George was right to kill Lennie.
Many Ravens will likely root for the Denver Broncos to knock off the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
The Beaver wars which were also called the French and Iroquois wars were wars fought by the Iroquois confederacy against the French and the Indian tribes. This included the Huron and Algonquin. The Indian confederacy wanted to continue to trade with the Dutch, exchanging beaver pelts for guns, weapons, tools, and beads. Because the beaver fur had become so scarce, the Iroquois wanted to extend the territory. They utilized what they could with the land they had. With the gaining of the territory the Iroquois wanted to be in charge of the Fur Trade. This was the start of the Beaver Wars.
The effect of the new wolf population was a miracle beyond hope, the ecosystem began to recover and diversify greatly. When the wolves were introduced it was found that they killed elk and restored their numbers to something the ecosystem could carry in conjunction with other species who feed on similar resources. In this way a surge of beaver population can be noted, as a result of beaver population increase the rivers became more stable and lodging was created for a half dozen species. It was also found that with the hunting of elk wolves left behind food for other animals whose populations also greatly benefited from this new predator. With the reintroduction of this alpha predator, the ecosystem made great strides toward recovering and diversifying, stream traveled slowly, meandered less and forest began to grow anew. Despite some arguments that Grey Wolves are a menace to the area or sensationalist report trying to discredit the wolf the results are clear. While man was responsible for the over hunting of the Grey Wolf in the 20th century, at its end the mistakes were rectified and the ecosystem shifted back into
There is a new kind of baseball bat out there. Its called the Axe Bat. Instead of a regular baseball bat handle and knob, it's shaped like an axe handle and knob. It looks a little different than a regular bat but hey, it works. And it may even help batters hit better because of the more natural shape.
I think grizzly bear should be delisted because there is a healthy population of grizzly bears in North America. The recovery of bear population has been successful. Human should truly allow bear return to their nature state. After more a decade of grizzly bear research, human have a good understanding of bear behavior . I have that the proposal has been thought through carefully by scientists. The bears should be able to survive and reproduce as long as the national park is protected. I truly believe that wildlife is very adaptable. The main reason for there close extinction is due the loss of habitat and human hunting. Currently, hunting of bear are forbidden and national parks are protect by the government and public. The main factor for
What if I told you there was a way to save so many lives by just keeping one animal off of the roads? There is a serious problem that a lot of people are facing especially late at night. There have been as horrible incidents as to where people have lost their lives. Or in less serious but still devastating incidents peoples cars become completely totaled. You never know you might just be on a late night drive heading down main street to pick your kid up from soccer practice when all of a sudden a deer jumps out from nowhere in front of your car and completely destroys it. That is just talking about damage to the car too. Hitting a deer can also put your life at risk and can cause fatal injuries.
Many people would wonder why someone would go into the wild to escape society. Society contains everything a person could ever want: property, friends, and family. However, for Chris McCandless, the subject of Jon Krakauer’s Into the Wild, it isn’t enough. Chris McCandless is a free-willed person who loves exploration. On his adventures, he discovers his family’s dark secret that had been kept from him and soon leaves his family because of it. He goes off to explore the continent as he meets new people, overcomes life-threatening challenges, and take on the challenge of finding himself. While society has many problems, such as work, school, and family problems, life on the road allows for people to evade these problems; therefore, people should look to life on the road as a way to distance themselves from society.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain is about a boy who runs away from his abusive and racist father, Pap and befriends Jim, a runaway slave. We see everything through the perspective of Huckleberry Finn, an outlier in society and a child. As their friendship develops, Huck becomes more like his own person, breaking away from the rules society ingrained in him. He must decide whether is conscience or morality is right. The people Huck meets on his journey are representations of the different types of people in society. The audience gets to see how everyone and everything contributes to how society functions.
After doing extensive research on the American beavers (Castor canadensis), I am most optimistic about population growth for this species. These semi-aquatic mammals are a keystone species and amazing ecosystem engineers who indirectly contribute tremendously to biodiversity, stabilization, and trophic cascades within boreal forest. Major challenges this species faces is human encroachment within their habitats due to beavers notorious behavior in creating dams, which can positively and negatively impact the environment. This often creates issues for humans in terms of flooding or clogging in streams, pipes, or culverts. Unfortunately, the public's terms of removal can result in killing, which factor into decline in population.
Raccoons are renowned for finding their way into residential garbage cans, throwing debris all over the place in search of food and harassing pets. On a more grave level, they are recognized by the Center for Disease Control as being the most dangerous animal to have living in close proximity due to the release of Histoplasmosis spores in their excrement. This infectious fungus is known to cause bloody coughing, fevers and aches. Raccoons are also one of the largest known carriers of the rabies virus in Miami, Florida.
The caribou population of British Columbia is dwindling and the government has implemented a culling program that will sacrifice wolves in order to save the caribou. The article, “B.C. begins to hunt wolves by helicopter in order to save endangered mountain caribou herds”, was found in The Vancouver Sun on January 16, 2015. This is newsworthy because the project will take place locally and it is important to know what is happening to our ecosystem. Caribou protection is important to the environment, the well-being of the ecosystem and the delicate food web. However, many are opposed to the culling program because it is an inhumane way to improve the caribou population.
However, reptiles, big cats, and primates- stereotypically dangerous exotic animals- account for only “67% of all exotic pet incidents” (Slater). Less common exotic animals can be just as dangerous, if not more so, than more commonly recognized exotic animals. Even the smaller animals that may seem harmless, such as rodents, frogs, and raccoons, can bring serious injury and diseases from their natural habitats to their private owners. No matter how docile or loving they may seem, wild animals are wired to act according to their natural instincts and their behavior is
Once you can afford the rabbits upkeep, you should think about what breed will suite you and where to get it from. There are larger breeds such as a Rex Rabbit, smaller breeds such as a Silver Fox Rabbit and there are also dwarf breeds such as the Siamese Sable Rabbit. Dwarf rabbits and smaller breeds will require less food than a large breed rabbit. When choosing the correct housing for your rabbit you should also consider the size of the breed. You should also consider the amount of grooming the rabbit will need. Depending on the breed of the rabbit, you can get rabbits with long hair and short hair. Rabbits with longer hair may require more grooming compared to rabbits with short hair.
Throughout recent decades, mankind has attempted to prevent the extinction of these creatures, secure the territory of these species, and by one means or another, minimize the negative consequences of the presence of humans.
