The Beaver wars which were also called the French and Iroquois wars were wars fought by the Iroquois confederacy against the French and the Indian tribes. This included the Huron and Algonquin. The Indian confederacy wanted to continue to trade with the Dutch, exchanging beaver pelts for guns, weapons, tools, and beads. Because the beaver fur had become so scarce, the Iroquois wanted to extend the territory. They utilized what they could with the land they had. With the gaining of the territory the Iroquois wanted to be in charge of the Fur Trade. This was the start of the Beaver Wars. Beaver hats were popular among the English and French. It was a status symbol representing wealth. It also served as a source of income. There were millions made between the 1600s and the 1700s. They were such a hot item that they were seen as the first great American trade. The reason for the Beaver Wars was that the Iroquois the French wanted control …show more content…
The desire to hunt and trade with the Europeans caused controversy with the French. Each wanted to gain control over the trade. The French stepped in and told other tribes to interfere whenever necessary. Of course the Iroquois fought the French back. The Five Nations attacked the Huron Indians and their French Jesuit teachers, causing the Huron Indians to relocate near Quebec. The French counter attacked and finally the Iroquois agreed to a peace treaty in 1669 lasting 16 years. When King Williams’s war broke out in 1689, the Five Nations once again moved on the French. This lasted for another 7 years. Finally, in 1700 the peace party presented once again negotiations between the Iroquois and the French and their allies. The Grand Settlement of 1701 included peace treaties between the French and 40 Nations of North America. The French and its allies, the Huron and Algonquians allowed for 16 years of peace. Also, included in this diplomatic event was the Iroquois
By 1649, the Five Nations Iroquois had destroyed the people of Huronia and driven them from their lands. The Five Nations Iroquois attacked and destroyed Huronia because of their desire to acquire fur at an increased rate in exchange for European goods, and the heavy influence of the Dutch. The Iroquois were successful in destroying Huronia due to their advanced weaponry which was supplied by the Dutch, and the French's desire to focus on converting the Hurons instead of aiding them sufficiently. The Five Nations Iroquois attacked the villages of Huronia relentlessly in order to obtain fur, and made the Huron captives carry their own fur back to Iroquoia. The Iroquois also saw destroying Huronia as a very profitable opportunity, as it would bring them in power in exchanging for many European goods.
Native Americans had conflict with the Europeans over social and environmental problems; this led to violence and war. Also, Europeans and Native Americans were both violent and Europeans enslaved and killed Natives to conquer land and people.
The conflict that became known in the British colonies as The French and Indian War was waged from 1754 to 1763. It was named after the alliance made between the French colonists and several Native American tribes that British forces fought against. The war, despite forcing British soldiers to fight alongside colonists, brought to the surface the growing disagreements between the two factions. Politically, economically, and ideologically, the war resulted in conflict between the British and the colonists.

Genocide is not a feature of warfare or rule that can be unilaterally blamed on European nations. It was a natural outgrowth of a people's desire to devastate another group of people for some purpose such as to steal land or gain an economic advantage. The Europeans who sailed to North America were skilled in this particular form of warfare having practiced it on one another for centuries, but they did not have to introduce it to the aboriginal tribes they found there. When the Dutch established a colony at Manhattan, they discovered a group of people who were both warriors and farmers called the Mohawk. This tribe fought in a particular manner that was meant to bring terror to their foes much as Hitler with his blitzkrieg or the United States with its "shock and awe" both of which would come centuries later (Axelrod 2011, 64). During a series of wars termed "Beaver Wars", these Mohawks, along with their partner tribes, waged a genocidal warfare that destroyed or dispersed those they were warring against. The Iroquois, traditional enemies of the Algonquian Federation who were allied with the French, sought to expand their fur hunting territory as a consequence of English/Dutch pressure to produce more fur, and the promise of aid in their fight against enemy tribes.
Most American indians allied with the French. The indians sided with the French because they traded and did not settle on the land. The French and British both wanted more land. The FRench and Indians War took more lives than the American Revolution. It was the bloodiest American war in the 18th Century. This war actually lasted 9 years, not
The American-Indian war commenced in a similar fashion. The French and the Indians fought against the English and the Americans for the land. The land originally belonged to the Indians but they fought the Americans to get it back and to reduce the chance of losing more. In this situation,
To begin, The French and Indian War that took place on North American soil began years earlier in Europe. The constant battle for world domination would be fought on many Continents including Europe and Asia. However, the war that was perhaps started by our very own George Washington at Fort Necessity and ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris in 1763, had a lasting impact on French and British settlements in North America for years to come.
“The main events surrounding the Pequot War occurred between 1637 and 1638. The parties involved were the Massachusetts Bay and Plymouth colonies along with Native Americans from the Narragansett and
The British also found peace with the Delaware, Iroquois, and Shawnee
Due to their victory in the Seven Years War, Great Britain was granted an opportunity to have more North American land, as well as more authority over the colonists. Because of the Treaty of Paris (1763), the French lost much of its North American holdings to the victorious Great Britain. Great Britain quickly asserted their new power by issuing the Proclamation of 1763, which denied anyone the right to settle anywhere beyond the Appalachians. Disregarding the new document, many colonists went westward to settle, showing the early signs of defiance. Following this, the
The primary cause of the Pequot War was the struggle to control trade. The Dutch brought on economic, political, and cultural changes when they arrived on Long Island and in the Connecticut River valley at the beginning of the 17th century and of English traders and settlers in the early 1630s. The world they entered into was dominated by the Pequot. The root of the Pequot War was the struggle for control of the fur and wampum trade in the Connecticut River valley. Before the arrival of the English in the early 1630s, the Dutch and Pequot controlled all the region’s trade. The situation was precarious because of the resentment held by the subservient Native American tribes for their Pequot overlords. So, when the English wanted to join in on the scene, those other tribes sought alliance with them, shifting the balance of regional power. This brought conflict as the competition for control of trade escalated quickly. As tensions grew between all parties, the murder of trader John Oldham by the Manisses Indians of Block Island in July, 1636 resulted in a military response by the English of Massachusetts Bay that led directly to the Pequot War. This was the beginning of the Pequot War.
Not only were the Indians involved in the battle between the British and Americans. Also during this time period it seemed that the French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte could not keep his influence out of any international business. In 1806 Napoleon forced the neutral trading ships going through Europe, mainly the American ones, to choose between Britain and France. The American ships did not appreciate this and responded with a blockade leading to the
The French and Indian war was about the trades and trading problems. In the 1750s, both Britain and France had colonies in North America. The British were planning to settle in the Ohio River Valley and to trade with the Native Americans who lived there. The French made forts to protect their trading with the Indians. And In 1754, George Washington led an army against the French.
The initial causes of the French and Indian War are based on the increasing colonization of French and English settlements throughout the Ohio River Valley area. In the 1750s, British colonists were slowly expanding territorial settlements into the Ohio River Valley from Virginia. In this manner, the English were aggressively establishing more land claims and rights for the British government. More so, the English were cooperating with the local Native American tribes in terms of sharing land rights or respecting the traditions of the indigenous peoples, which often involved military supports and resources from the Iroquois tribe. In contrast to this colonial development, the French were also claiming land rights for settlements in the Ohio River Valley by moving east and southwards from the Great Lakes and French colonial territories in New France. The French also cooperated with local indigenous peoples, such as the Huron, to fight the British during this historical period. The Huron people had a long tradition of trade, and other forms of economic and military cooperation to support this alliance:
