I find my true self in nature surrounded by trees, rocks, water and the captivating peaceful sounds. While growing up in Asheville, North Carolina, I spent most of my time climbing trees, riding bikes, and hiking through the Blue Ridge Mountains. Living nearly ten minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway was an experience I will never forget. Being surrounded by nature is my therapy and my home; I visit the mountains on occasion and it never gets old seeing the breathtaking landscape I grew up on. The summer of 2016 I traveled west of Tennessee for the first time in my life. Traveling on a bus bound for Colorado with no air conditioning was quite the trip. Stopping in Nashville, Tennessee, St. Louis, Missouri, and Kansas City were all fun, but
The first Region is the Blue Ridge Mountains this region is located in the North Eastern part of Georgia. This region is home to The Blue Ridge Mountains, which is the southernmost point in The Appalachian Mountain Chain. It is home to Georgia’s highest point, Brasstown bald at 4,784 feet above Sea Level. The First American Gold Rush took place here in 1828.
The scenes journey along the Appalachian Trail captures the true magnificence and greatness of the eastern U.S. of wilderness. Starting in the Deep South at the foothills of the smoky mountains, this journey overwhelms one with southern beauty while also making one experience the South’s legendary simplicity and retreat from the urban gridlock of modern society. The Appalachian Trail’s scenery attracts many people from all over the world to witness it for them. Causing many people to come with their families and possibly volunteer.
Forests, lakes, and rivers are the places I love to spend my time. No matter what I am doing outside I will always be happy. My favorite part about being an outdoorsman has to be dressing for the weather. Living in Minnesota I learned the weather can change overnight, and I am always prepared. My eagerness to be outside was influenced by my family at a young age. I enjoy hiking through beautiful forests and cross country skiing over frozen snow covered lakes. I spend so much time in nature I learn to appreciate things on a whole different level. Nature has so much beauty and mystery it cannot be
It could be at Lake Minatare or even taking a walk down the Monument Pathway. I prefer the Wildcats because of the annoying wind everyone in the panhandle hates. It not only drowns out the sounds around me but because the sounds around me are gone my thoughts start to disappear. I suffer from Anxiety and Depression and when things start to get out of hand for me and my coping mechanisms are no longer working this is where anyone can find me. I prefer to physically hike through the Hills to find a place within to recollect myself and my thoughts. Though many choose to relax in other ways this has best help me. It also has helped me explore and discover parts of the Hills that I wasn’t aware were there. There is more to see than most people think there is at the
Life can be pretty stressful, and at times I feel the need to escape. When life’s pressures build to a critical mass my favorite place to go is Collier Township’s Panhandle trail, with its long hiking, and bike riding path, the more secluded hiking trails set deep in the woods, and fossil cliff it’s the ideal place to escape this mad mad world. I begin my journey at the start of the trail that stretches from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. The sound of tiny stones crunch under my feet as I walk, birds fly through a vibrant blue sky, and come to rest perched high in the trees that frame the walking, and bike trail. I continue down the trail for a quarter of a mile reading the small signs placed on the edge of the path set there to inform you of
The Blue Ridge region is located in the Northeastern part of Georgia. It is a contnuation of the large mountain range named the Appalacian Mountains. But, they are unlike the Appalacian mountains because they are more rugged and the valleys are more randomly placed. The Blue Ridge region can reach elvations of 4700 feet above sea level. Because of this, this region is much cooler comparison with the other regions in Georgia.
The mountains are a beautiful adventure. As you walk up the incline, trees overhang, animals run wild, and rivers roar. All of these are things that keep me coming back to hike. On my most recent hike, while it may have been 100 degrees back home, where I was it was a chilling 40 degrees. As we walked around ten miles up and over the mountain, I took many breaks to catch my breath and take in the majestic scenery. There are also the snow skiing vacations. While you can’t see anything besides snow and trees, the adventure of cruising down the slopes is full of adrenalin. The mountains have always signified an adventure for me. Just like the mountains, life is a beautiful adventure. I do not know yet what adventures are in store for my life, but I look forward to them. I strive to see the beauty in everything.
estled between the Blue Ridge Mountains and Allegheny Mountains, Rockingham County is located within the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Originally founded in 1778, Rockingham County has become a historical community committed to implementing an economic strategy of attracting new business and industry that are compatible with the way of life in the Shenandoah Valley and assisting in the retention and expansion of existing companies (Rockingham County). Most commonly known for its beauty, Rockingham County is comprised of six metropolitan cities, of which Harrisonburg holds the county seat (Rockingham County).
I believe that one should be surrounded by nature in order to stay sane. Emerson once wrote, “In the woods, we return to reason and faith.” This means that when immersed in nature one can return to a more reasonable and cleansed state of mind. I believe that people who are caught up in society and are always rushing around aren’t really living and taking life for what it’s worth.
It’s hard to pick a specific area of Vermont that has the deepest connection with me, almost every spot I visit sparks a sense of wonder within me. From the Burlington waterfront to the peaks at Stowe I always feel secure and at home in Vermont. On a typical winter's day I am feeling the effects of the cold air mostly through the wind. I can especially taste the crispness of the Vermont air as its refreshing more so than it is unbearable. When I’m up on the mountain during snowboard season I look out and see a field of white that encapsulates everything except the green treetops. A sight that often leaves me filled with energy and mental clarity, I can’t help myself but fall into deep thought whenever I am up on
Throughout the years, my family and I all wake up just as the sun rises like baby birds seeing light for the first time as they climb out of there cracked shells. My father pulls my two sleepy siblings out from the comfort of their beds and they stumble out to the kitchen still in pajamas led by the sents of sizzling bacon and warm butter filled toast. After breakfast, we all help pack all our belongings in the back of our blue SUV and all jump in. We set off on our adventure to beautiful Carroll County during this cold and crazy November morning. Once we reach close to our destination you look out of the car window at all the beautiful sights just as it was mistaken as a mirage in the hot desert sun. As you drive through the small town of Westminster in the hill tops of northern Maryland you will see acres of autumn leaves on trees as you would in a famous painting. It is a breathtaking view. Classic rustic red barns flood each side of the long stretch of roads and horses run free in the fields like wind blowing briskly off the ocean shore. The location is very different from the beach town where I live. You can smell the fresh air from the change in elevation instead of salty beach air I am so used to. Feeling of almost being on a rollarcoaster-like ride, when you are really just going down a small hill a short distance away from my
Caedyn Wheeler was less than pleased with her time spent in the state of Wyoming. The heat was unbearable, resting comfortably in the upper 90s, and the humidity was so strong that she could hardly breathe. To her luck, it was not long before it was announced that her & her family were to return to the car and make the drive to their final destination. Although Caedyn knew not where exactly there were going, she eagerly awaited, hoping, if nothing else, that it wasn’t quite as unbearably warm.
When the sun slowly peeps over the range of mountains, birds shake the morning dew off their feathers and give a cheerful song that would lift even the most sorrowful of spirits. A light fog wraps around the mountain range, reaching to touch every bit of life thriving there. The slight chill in the air is enough to give a gentle shiver, but not enough for the need of a jacket. A breeze tickles the trees, making their leaves shake and sway with laughter. Sunlight seeps in past the thick canopy of branches with hopes of being able to reach the damp mountain earth. The mountains are the best place to live to be relaxed, see the most beauty, and never get bored.
Walking through the trail full of mud and leaves always made me think about my life. It was always there when I needed to walk and get things off my mind. Looking around watching the leaves fall off tree after tree flying like butterflies, all different colors. When they stopped, they immediately died and they were not coming back alive again. Piled leaves filled up under trees and children ran and jumped on them like they were pillows. These trees tripled the height of humans with numerous branches holding hundreds of leaves. While walking the river flows and it is such a beautiful view with the sun shining right off of it. The ducks and little birds chirping and floating through the smooth water puts a joy to my face.
Fortunately, I wake every morning to the most beautiful sun lit house. I sit on my porch sipping coffee, while I drink in an atmosphere that steals my breath away. Rolling hills lay before me that undulate until they crash into golden purple mountains. Oh how they are covered in spectacular fauna, ever blooming foliage, and trees that are heavy with pungent fruit.
