Thomas Jefferson changed America in many ways back in the day. A lot of people consider him a great president and he’s famous for many issues he solved. Jefferson was one of the greatest presidents of the United States, vice president for John Adams, and the Secretary of State for George Washington. What was Thomas Jefferson’s childhood like? Thomas was born on April 13, 1743 in Shadwell, Virginia in an area called Goochland County with a big family. His parents were both very successful. Peter Jefferson, his father, became a planter and held many jobs connected to the government. Jane Jefferson, his mother, owned many plantations with great amounts of slaves. One of the most famous things Thomas Jefferson is remembered for is writing the entire Declaration of Independence, a document that changed America because it was the start of freedom. It even has words of his own that aren’t revised like, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness." More things he supported was the French Revolution and slavery. He owned many slaves of his own and thought whites were superior to blacks. Thomas also wrote the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom that stated there would be freedom of religion and separation of churches throughout the country.
