The character Juliet in the play Romeo and Juliet by William Shapesphere is shown to be naive. To show this in Act 1, Scene 2 (pg 28) Capulet says “My child is yet a stranger in this world”. She hath not seen the change of fourteen years.” This tells you Juliet was only 13 years old when Paris was trying to marry her and when she did marry Romeo. And Romeo and Juliet didn't even know each other for a week before they got married. Another way Juliet is seen as naive is when she kills herself because she sees Romeo has killed himself. Before she ends herself she says, “O happy dagger, This is thy sheath. There rust and let me die.” She is killing herself almost the moment she wakes up from drinking the potion because she sees Romeo dead. The play Romeo and Juliet is a story about 2 different people who have fallen in love but their families have a long line of hatred for each other and in the end Romeo and Juliet end up killing themselves.The main theme of Romeo and Juliet is how death catches up to everyone. For example, in Act 5, Scene 2 (pg 276) Lady Capulet says “Some people in the street are crying “Romeo”. Some are crying “Juliet”, and some are crying “Paris.” The people are their names because all 3 of them died that night. The theme is further developed in Act 3 Scene 1 (pg 148) Benvolis states “The Prince will doom thee death if thou art taken.” Benvolio says the Prince will give Romeo the death penalty because he ended up killing Tyblat.
