How Does Scrooge Change In A Christmas Carol

The script of A Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens. This play takes place in London, England. Ebenezer Scrooge, a rich yet greedy man, is visited by three christmas spirits that give him a chance of overcoming his cold-hearted self. The spirits bring old Scrooge to different times of his life. First came the Spirit of Christmas Past, then Christmas Present, and finally the Spirit of Christmas Yet To Come. Scrooge is a man that doesn’t care about anyone but himself. It took some time but with the spirits guiding him to change his attitude, Scrooge softens up and is overcomed by the Christmas Spirit. On Christmas day, many people are surprised at the appearance of Scrooge because he has changed from a man with no heart to a man who spreads Christmas with everyone. All of the spirits are a huge part of Scrooge’s change, but I believe the third spirit, Spirit of Christmas Yet To Be, had the most influential effect on Scrooge. Christmas Spirit Yet To Be brings Scrooge to the future and shows him that if he does not change his ways, no one will care and miss him when he dies. Scrooge sees this and is frightened. The next day, on Christmas, Scrooge was handing out his precious gold coins that he did not want to share before. Many people did not believe Mr. Ebenezer Scrooge was really him! They thought this man was too nice and generous to be the Scrooge they know. This shows that Scrooge really did change and I believe while the other two spirits enlightened him, the third spirit was what brought him back to love, joy, and hope. One gentleman that visited Mr. Scrooge said, “My dear sir, I don’t know what I can say to such generosity…” (last page) Now, everyone in the town was in the christmas spirit, including Mr.
