That the inventions by the roman army have been changed slightly by the modern day society. As an example, the roman catapult was used to create destruction where it was fired. The catapult is similar to the artillery we use here in Australia as it is used to create destruction with explosive shells that can be fired up to 20km away. Another example is the roman Gladius witch resembled a sword that is usually used in close combat fighting. The modern day form would be a combat knife that is used by the armies. The combat knife is also a close combat weapon which is also why it's similar to a Gladius. Along with that the pilum is spear like stick that has a bendable end so the opponent can’t re-use it. The pilum is also a mid range weapon much like some guns. The handgun is a mid range weapon and its bullets can only be used once, much like the pilums tip. …show more content…
One event that the romans did for entertainment was the roman theatre, where they did plays. Every roman loved to watch the plays, but the only people who were aloud to preform were men, because ‘back in the day’ women didn’t have the same rights as men. Instead they would wear black mask’ for men and white mask’ to represent girls and women. But it wasn’t the only weird thing they did for entertainment, another thing they did was killing was interpreted in acting and this wasn’t only acting parts, you would quite literally die from playing the part. Compared to the modern day entertainment is better since it involves no
Entertainment was essential to daily life in Ancient Rome. According to Juvenal1, it seemed that all Romans were interested in was "bread and circuses," and with theatres, amphitheatres, gambling, drama and public baths galore, the Romans never seemed to get bored.
The Roman empire lasted about 500 years. It started off as one of the strongest empires when it began. They had the best land army at the time but had no navy. They eventually made ships and trained their troops to board enemy ships and attack. While they was fighting the war they lost all funding and forced their enemy to pay them back but one of the later generals launched an attack on Rome. The romans experienced major changes from the beginning of the first century B.C..
Roman Legacy Essay Rome has made a lasting impact on modern day culture. Many of the Romans’ ideas people still use today because the ideas make peoples’ lives easier. Romans made many innovations including roads, concrete, and the calendar. One invention the romans made that is still in use today is the development of roads.
The ancient Romans had many forms of entertainment most of which would be considered very gruesome and cruel today. One of their favorite events to observe were gladiator fights which were often times fought until only one opponent was left alive. Another event that they enjoyed watching was chariot races. They would also attend the theater.
Rome influenced many things that we use in our daily things today. From art, law and justice, and several prefixes in words in the English language. Rome was an amazing empire that lasted for years, even when it started to crumble and fall apart. The influence it had on us today impacts the quote “All Roads Lead To Rome”. The quote, to me, means that Rome had thousands of miles of roads, and if you stumbled upon one, and followed it, it would lead straight to Rome.
Romans were a well made modern world, their works have very greatly impacted us to this very day. One example would be roads, to transport things such as goods. Roads provide movement for armies, officials, and civilians. There are also small and long distance roads that are still an architectural method used today. Language would be another example of a long-lasting impact on our modern world.
There are many legacies that Rome has left on modern day, but I believe that the architecture and engineering had the largest impact. The quote, "Rome fell but its legacy lived on." means that while Rome was on the top of the game, they made good use of their time and accomplished a lot. Since Rome had such talented engineers and architects, their building style lived on even though the great empire did not. The roman legacies are art, language and writing, philosophy, law, and citizenship, and engineering and architecture. All of these are very important in modern day, but the one that stuck out the most to me was the engineering and architecture. Honestly, when you ever think about a football game, all of it happens inside of a stadium right?
