On July 4th, 1776 the thirteen colonies declared Independence from England. The Actions and Laws that I will address in this DBQ led to the revolution of the the thirteen colonies. Two British laws that caused this were the Intolerable Acts which punished the colonists for the outcome of Boston Tea Party which was when the Sons of Liberty boarded British ships and dumped chests of tea into the Boston Port, and the Stamp Act which was when the British placed a tax on all stamps. The action the colonists took was that they stripped, tarred, and feathered British soldiers and they also started to rebel against the taxes. In May of 1765, Patrick Henry addressed the issue of the Stamp Act to the Virginia House of Burgesses. In Patrick Henry’s speech he …show more content…

This is known as the Boston Tea Party, the Sons of Liberty did this in response to the British placing a tax on tea. George Hughes wrote about disguising himself as an indian and boarding the ships. This is what he said… “It was now evening, and I immediately dressed myself in the costume of an Indian, equipped with a small hatchet, which I and my associates denominated the tomahawk, with which, and a club, after having painted my face and hands with coal dust in the shop of a blacksmith, I repaired to Griffin’s wharf, where the ships lay that contained the tea. When I first appeared in the street after being thus disguised, I fell in with a many who were dressed, equipped and painted as I was, and who fell in with me and marched in order to the place of our destination. We then were ordered by our commander to open the hatches and take out all the chests of tea and throw them overboard, and we immediately proceeded to execute his orders, first cutting and splitting the chests with our tomahawks, so as thoroughly to expose them to the effects of the water.” (Document
