The American Revolution took place during 1765 and 1783 and is what gave us the country that we now know today. The thirteen colonies cut all political ties with Great Britain and became their own independent states, known as the United States of America. As conflicts with Great Britain increased the need for Independence grew. The history leading up to the American Revolution is very interesting. The aftermath of the French and Indian war played a big role in what began the colonists dissent against Great Britain. At the start of the war the colonist were glad that the redcoats were there to protect them but after the fall of Washington at Fort Necessity they started to feel disappointed towards them. After the war, Great Britain, although they won, was left with huge amounts of debt. Because of the cost to train troops and the debt the British wanted the colonist to pay their fair share. The colonists were not happy with this, although the Great Britain paid most of the debt itself. Another factor was the Quartering Act(1765). It said that the colonists were responsible for finding or …show more content…
While America was founded on protecting essential liberties of its citizens, from an economic standpoint Britain was not necessarily oppressive. They had the legal right to pass laws for the colonies. The problem that many of the colonists had been that Great Britain usually left the colonies alone to do their own thing so when they did interfere many colonists did not like that. One misconception is that high taxes played a factor in the Revolutionary war, but in actuality it was the fact they were being taxed without representation. Some of the taxes that were passed were the Stamp Act(1765) and the Townsend Acts(1767). Many colonists felt like they should not have to pay these taxes because they were passed by the English Parliament, and not by the colonial
The American Revolutionary War was caused by the political disagreements between Great Britain and the American colonies. Most of the Americans initially didn’t want to completely separate from England but wanted to regain the rights that Parliament had taken away from them. England made war unavoidable with its unwillingness to negotiate, heavy taxation of the colonists that violated their rights, and strict trading policies.
Both the British and the American colonists contributed to causing the American Revolution. The war grew out of contempt: England’s contempt for the colonies and colonial contempt for British policies. A series of actions by the British eventually pushed the colonists over the edge and towards independence. The results of the war gave many citizens a new role in society while others, like slaves, felt no change at all. This paper will examine the specific causes and effects of the American Revolution.
American Revolution against the British, who were their political masters, took place in the periods between 1765 and 1783 (Gott 17). The United States of America was among the first nations to rebel against their colonial masters. They were not pleased with their aristocracy and monarchical forms of leadership that they were being governed. According to Gott, the thirteen American colonies, which later came to be the USA, were not pleased with the taxation policy of the Britain that was established in 1763 (23). According to the rule, “taxation without representation,” the king had been given the right by the British government to tax the thirteen colonies. Their colonial masters wanted to tax them without the thirteen colonies having representatives
The American Revolution taking place first in 1765, was mainly because there was a want for a free and open government. After the battles of Lexington and Concord they colonies were debating whether fighting for independence or reconciliation was the best way to protect their liberties as colonies. If and when people decided that independence was the best option, they were still hesitant about openly seeking this freedom. Though Congress was sending out declarations that the colonies were loyal to King George, they were also preparing for war with the British, which was much of a contradiction. The British also prepared for war and even recruited slaves to fight for them. Many
The French and Indian war had ended in 1763 with the British domination of Canada and the Missisippi area as new territories. However, the tensions between the English empirical and the American colonies began to develop into a series of crisis which created diversion sets of interests. That tension had developed some serious events which then lead to the American Revolution. Parliament and Grenville, the prime minister, was convinced that the colonies should pay for the 10,000 British troops that had been settled in North America, for the sake of their protection from the French other western enemies.
The colonists of America slowly came to realize that they must break from Britain due to the growing feeling of being considered unequal to the British. They realized they had no say in government, and under the rule of Britain, they would never be able to prosper. The conditions of their rights slowly disintegrated, as the construction of parliament becomes more and more powerful and intolerable. The language used to protest british, throughout the time, leading up to the revolutionary war, were legal, and political, but the primary cause would have been economics.
Many people have the misconception that the American Revolution occurred because British colonists did not want to be British citizens any longer. This may have been the case for a select few, but many British colonists desired to maintain their status as British colonists and citizens. The foremost reason that the colonists began protests, boycotts, and petitions against the British was because they believed their innate rights as British citizens were being violated. The American Revolution occurred due to a chain of events and a complex set of intertwined reasons.
The American Revolution was by far the most important event ever in our history. This was the war that made us our own country. The British were laying down heavy taxes on the Colonists that they performed through Acts. The Colonists wouldn’t have had much of a problem with it, except for the fact that they did not even get a say in how things were run that affected them mostly. They wanted to be able to say how they were being governed.
Due to the Seven year war England was in great debt and decided to start taxing the colonies. England then started to tax sugar, stamps and tea. Do to this there were many rebellions against taxations. There was the Boston Massacre which is where the Liberty Boys started to throw rocks at British houses and the British lined up in front of the house to protect it and when one of their soldiers were knocked down the soldiers began to fire their shots and ended up killing five people. There was also the Boston Tea Party where the colonies were not happy with the tax on tea so they decided to come together and throw all tea into the harbor in Boston. The American Revolution was a long time coming, the colonist wanted to be free of England, England’s
Perplexed about how to come up with the money for the debt they had surmounted, they looked to the colonists they had fought the war for. The parliament saw that the colonists were indebted to them and should pay for some financial obligations they helped accrue. The English thought that since they fought the war for the colonists, they were just as liable for repaying the money. In other words, “Tax”. The American Revolution became inevitable from the first tax the English imposed of the colonists. Although it was in good intentions and had a reasonable explanation, the English were dealing with a rouge society that had lived on their own. The colonists had developed their own way of governing, economy and way of living. Wealthy people felt they were losing control. In total, the colonists were actually doing better than the English in the mother country. Which was not pleasant for the British and caused widespread dislike.
While the colonists were settling down in America, Great Britain was like a guard dog that watched vigilantly on their every move. The colonists didn’t realize this issue until soldiers from Great Britain migrated overseas just to block off ports and intimidate them. Once, Great Britain knew that they had the colonist in their grasps, they started implementing Acts. For example, the Townshend Act which imposed taxes on glass, lead, paints, paper and tea imported into the colonies as well as the Stamp act which required colonists to pay taxes on every single piece of paper that was used in the colonies. This was the tea that helped wake the colonists up and made them push or desiring liberty. This sudden rebellious behavior was the fuel that powered the Revolutionary Period and was further enhanced by the
Beginning in 1775 and ending with a peace treaty in 1783 The American Revolution allowed the 13 colonies to break free from Britain and become the U.S.
When the colonies first started to form the colonists were very proud to be associated with the British. After the French and Indian War, however, the colonies realized they could fight, survive, and thrive as their own nation. Once the British realized that the colonists were growing in confidence after the war they started to place taxes and extreme limits on the colonies. The British also needed money themselves to recover from the French and Indian War so they imposed outrageous taxes on the colonists that they couldn’t afford. While many factors contributed to the American Revolution, the primary cause of the war was the colonists desire for independence from the British.
The American Revolution was a war between Great Britain and the 13 British Colonies. The revolution began in 1775, because taxes and power made many of the pioneers want to break away from Great Britain’s ruling. Taxation without representation was one of the main causes of the American Revolution; because the British were in debt after the French and Indian war, so the British decided to tax the colonist since they helped them with the war. The British then brought forth other acts that the colonist did not necessarily agree with (Henretta, Hinderaker, Edwards, & Self, 2015).
The colonies in America were tired of being under the control of the Parliament; they wanted to break away from Great Britain and have their own independence. During the French and Indian War, King George III spent a lot of money on expensive supplies for his army and colonies. This resulted on him having a lot of debt, and in order for him to pay it off, he came to the conclusion of imposing taxes on the colonies (American Revolution, 2017). The colonies were furious because King George III did this without their consent. The colonists began a boycott of British goods because they did not like being taxed for things they always had for free. Another cause of the war was King George III’s “Intolerable Acts,” it was an act regarding the Boston Tea Party incident, where the colonists threw the tea overboard into the harbor (American Revolution, 2017). The Intolerable Acts was to put the Massachusetts government about entirely under the direct control of the
