Hormone Replacement Therapy Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is one of the treatment options that can help to relief some of the postmenopausal symptoms in women due to decreased estrogen, and progesterone, such as hot flushes, insomnia, and mood swing to mention but a few. Also, elderly men can benefit from increased testosterone and improved sexual function. However, increase in body fat index, reduced immunity and bone mineral density, and loss of muscle mass and strength are some of the physiological changes associated with declining hormonal level (Makinen & Huhtaniemi, 2011). Although hormone replacement therapy is beneficial to both men and women, but some comorbidities and adverse reactions/hypersensitivity from the drug might contraindicate its use. Alternatively, non-hormonal medication should be used to relief some of the signs and symptoms associated with the physiological changes. Description of strengths and limitation HRT might improve the following symptoms associated with the physiological changes such as …show more content…
In addition, women with any health conditions that posed a high risk for endometrial cancer such as prolonged history of irregular bleeding, polycystic ovary disease, or current history of irregular bleeding occurring less than 21days or periods lasting 10 days or more should have endometrial biopsy before hormonal treatment (Arcangelo & Peterson, 2013). Prescription for supplemental hormones HRT has advantages and disadvantages, therefore as an advanced practice nurse I am obligated to properly assess and evaluate my patient requesting for a hormonal therapy before prescribing. Most importantly patient should be educated on the adverse effect and the importance of reporting any unusual reaction to the health care provider to prevent
As my grandmother got older she went through many physical changes due to hormones in her body. At the age of 50 she went through menopause and this meant that there was many physical changes in her body like her periods started to become irregular and after a while would stop. The oestrogen hormone levels in women would decrease when they go through menopause. There are other symptoms which my grandmother experienced like:
Mary is a 50 year old female admitted with shortness of breath and chest pain that started early this am. She is overweight, takes hormone replacement therapy. Her right lower leg is edematous and is diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolus. She is given an infusion of Activase in the emergency room and then started on a heparin drip at 1200 uints per hour intravenously once she arrives to the floor. She is going home on Coumadin . The following are the things I will teach Mary to do or observe while taking Coumadin at home.
If you’ve paid attention to radio or television commercials lately you’ve noticed an increase in supplements designed to boost hormones in men & women. They use flashy, medical-sounding buzzwords, & tell you the reason you’re fat, weak and have no sex drive is because you’re over 30 and your hormones are in the gutter. Is that true, or did something besides age cause them to decrease?
Further clarification is essential regarding the use of menopausal hormone therapy when teaching our clients. Primarily due to the fact that there are misperceptions about the risks and benefits of hormonal therapy, APRNs carry the role of teaching not only their own clients, but of teaching other nurses, new nurses, physicians and the public in general. APRNs must weigh the risks alongside of the benefits when prescribing ET or EPT to any of their clients having severe symptomology in order to promote short-term medication for symptom relief, but also, long-term relief from the potential threat of breast cancer (NAMS, 2012). The focal point of the standard of care is to manage menopausal symptoms, educate on possible potential risks in the future, and advocate for patients based on the latest evidence based practice.
Hormone replacement therapy is an FDA-approved treatment for menopause that affects most maturing women. The medications given to you during the therapy contain the hormones you need to counter the symptoms you are experiencing. Additionally, the Mayo Clinic estimates that the medications used in replenishing your hormones can also be effective for preventing heart disease.
This increase in bone loss results in the condition called osteoporosis. Osteoporosis in turn increases the susceptibility of bones to fractures. Studies have indicated that treatment with hormone replacement therapy is beneficial in reducing the risk of suffering from osteoporosis. The clinical trial carried out by Postmenopausal Estrogen/Progestin Interventions (PEPI) for three years revealed that osteoporosis was reduced in hormone replacement therapy. This study demonstrated that the independent use of conjugated equine estrogen (CEE) or in complex with progesterone analogs fostered an increased bone-mineral density. The Heart and Estrogen/Progestin Replacement Study (HERS) was carried out separately in about three-thousand women (Herrington 12). This study indicated that bone density was significantly higher in women who underwent the therapy. The women who had been assigned placebos showed a slightly higher rate of bone loss. This shows that hormone replacement therapy confers the benefit of alleviating bone loss and maintaining healthy amounts of bone minerals (PEPI;
There has been conflicting research and advice about the safety of hormones with the increase in the aging female population within the last twenty years (National Institute on Aging). Hormone therapy has demonstrated to be the most effective FDA approved medication in the relief of menopausal symptoms, but these benefits must be weighed against serious adverse effects that hormones can cause. Although many women differ in their response to hormone products, MHT has been universally linked to an increased risk of heart disease, heart attack, blood clots, and strokes. Concerns about the findings discovered in the clinical and observation trials performed on MHT, have left some doctors and women hesitant in utilizing MHT to combat menopausal
A woman's body goes through a lot of changes after her period stops completely. The hormone levels in the body start to drop to a much lower amount. The woman starts to experience those changes which might include hot flashes and a number of other menopausal symptoms. Hormonal replacement treatments are used to end the problems that the menopausal woman complains about. Generally, the hormone replacement treatment consist of estrogen and progesterone. Estrogen is a very important hormone that helps keep bones strong. Progesterone is generally combined with estrogen to form an effective hormone replacement treatment for the menopausal woman.
The first step is to __D__efine the research question. You can structure or define your question in two ways. In some cases, you can use a __free-form question__ where you are asking a simple question such as, “Is hormonal birth control safe?” However, this question is very open because there are many factors that can factor into the safety of using birth control in a patient such as method, patient age, or health status. A more defined or __structured question__ would be, “What are the risks of stroke in women over 40 at high risk for blood clots taking hormonal birth control compared to the same population using non-hormonal birth control or no birth control?” The second question is a better question because it is measuring the possible
The process of transitioning into the opposite sex has made leaps and bounds over the last twenty years. Social transition is a more traditional approach to the transition process. Social transition is modifying how you are seen by society by dressing like the opposite sex, using opposite sex pronouns, acting in such a way that matches your gender identity, etc. Next is legal transition, this is when a person changes legal documents or records to identify with their gender identity. Lastly is a medical transition, this is when the body is physically changed through hormone therapy and/or surgery. (“One Step at a Time”, 2015)
Menopause is a stage of a woman’s health around her late 40s or early 50s. At this stage of her life, a woman’s menstruation will cease and her hormones will deplete, leaving sometimes terrible side effects, including insomnia, mood
Like the Nurses’ Health Study, in 2002, a study called the Women’s Health Initiative published a theory that the breast cancer rates in the U.S decreased because of the reduced use of HRT. The results showed that HRT increased breast cancer risk (Breast Cancer Infographic). Because estrogen promotes the growth of cancers that are hormone-receptor positive, HRT is not a treatment for cancer but increases the risk of cancer because it is used to increase estrogen levels and hormone therapy blocks and lowers estrogen levels (The American Cancer Society) (Armstrong).
Film Analysis In the film Macbeth, Banquo’s ghost is seen on the table and pointing towards Macbeth. He is wearing the bloodied clothes that he were killed in on the train by Macbeth's anonymous assassins. This scene portrays Banquo as a superior person with the film techniques, facial expressions and gestures that are used in the scene.
Capital punishment and the death penalty are government authorized retributions by death. The rulings are known as death sentences, and crimes that can lead to death penalties are referred to as capital offences or crimes for example first degree murder or treason. The most used technique of death penalty is hanging. The performances are carried out in public places, and the people who carry it out combined it with a process of torture. In this paper, I will focus on the issues against death penalties, its role in the criminal justice system, and the differing side of the issue.
Lying, it’s everywhere. Almost 60% of most adults can’t go ten minutes without telling a lie. Some people lie to protect other people, while others lie to benefit themselves like maintaining the perfect image they care so much about. However, lying is completely unjustified unless you’re protecting yourself or someone else from danger. This idea can be further proven with evidence from a variety of articles.
