My first patient was a sweet man that lived in a nursing home. With his wife living 30 minutes away, he got lonely. He loved classic mystery novels, but his eyesight didn’t allow him to read the small print on his own. Most of my visits with him were spent reading those novels to him. He was always appreciative of the time I spent with him, even if he accidentally fell asleep. I had a total of 3 patients with Legacy, but with him I learned the importance of honest communication in the health care system. After some time struggling with his prognosis, he decided to stop dialysis. His wife explained to me that he made the decision on his own. She was angry that they weren’t informed on how horrible a death it would be. The doctor told them that
Within a health care setting communication is a necessity. This communication not only includes the need for professional communication but also the way in which information is shared to the patient and to other healthcare workers. Another important aspect of health care worker such as a nurse is the effectiveness off a handover. Within the video, Effective Communication in nursing these three aspects of communication (Professional communication, provision of information and handover) were seen and will be analysed further, within this essay. These will be analysed through the three aspects, the care of the patient, the image of the individual nurse and the health outcomes of the patient. All of these three aspects of communication are vitally important to the overall patient needs.
I learned that I should continue to care for the whole patient with love and accept them for who they are (Caruso, Cisar, & Pipe, 2008). Continuing to show this patient how much I cared through my perseverance made a difference in both of our lives. I created a healing and
Describe strategies you gained from the course for improving outcomes of care and patient safety in the setting in which you are engaged in. Provide examples and rationale.
There are some barriers which could emanates in partnership working, these include ;poor communication or lack of communication among partners, inconsistent or in accurate record keeping, misunderstanding of policies and procedures Lack of trust, lack of respect for each other ,using of jargons in communicating and soon.
A potentially useful communication technique could be to sit down with both the childcare centre staff at Gurung and the local ATSI community. This would be so the partnership can start to be developed. Everyone talks and meets each other. To make the partnership more effective this could happen on a more regular basis. Something like once per month or as often as they need to meet and reconnect.
This is an analysis of a taped interview between a nurse and a patient who is taking pre-employment medicals. The information given during the interview, including her name, Pink Cloud is fictitious because of the need of confidentiality. During the interview, objective and subjective data will be collected. The areas of communication focused on in the analysis are verbal, questioning and listening skills. Analysis will be made and later suggestions and recommendations will be made on how to make improvements in the future. To achieve this, direct quotations from the will be used to make references to the three theories being analysed and will be supported by the literature.
Whenever two obligations are at conflict it presents what is known as an ethical dilemma (Chaloner, 2012). It is nearly impossible to make once choice without sacrificing another. Examples of such dilemmas in healthcare may include decisions such as prolonging life for a terminal ill patient through artificial means or saving a mother via a risky surgery that may jeopardize the life of an unborn child. Healthcare practitioners must always exercise caution when ethical issues arise and find a way to balance societal norms, personal philosophies and values and religious beliefs (Arnold & Boggs, 2007). Personal ethics may guide reactions and initial choices, but the needs and rights of the patient should always serve as guideposts for ethical communication and behavior in administering healthcare services (Reiter-Theil, 2012).
Working in healthcare most effective tool is communication. Discussing the outcomes of therapy a patients needs is vital for recovery. While in the hospital respiratory therapist communicate during report time to provided information that has transpired during the patients stay. The process of communication is a two-way street by processing clear and concise information along with understanding of the content (The Keys to Lean Communication - Improving the Process, n.d.). Lean communication provides information that eliminates any waste of time or information that is unnecessary and brings added value by improving contribution and enthusiasm in efforts to improve the department. The most effective tool in the hospital setting is communication,
Communication is an important part of any job, especially in the healthcare field. Being able to effectively communicate with not only the patients, but also the patient’s family in some situations is essential to providing compassionate and successful healthcare. From being firm and direct with directions during an exam to being a “shoulder to cry on” for your patient are all traits of an effective communicator. Good communication requires four skills: listening, speaking, writing, and reading (Communication). Being a good listener is just as important as being a good speaker.
Health care organization are highly complex and due to the nature of the work, the diverse workforce, and the relation of work to performance measures, implementing quality improvement (QI) is often difficult. To improve the likelihood of successfully implementing an incident reporting system, as with any (QI) measure, it should be planned out, involving organizational members from top to bottom (Burns, Bradley, Weiner, & Shortell, 2012). As with any new policy or procedure, there can be resistance and barriers. However, with open communication and understanding the need for the measure, this can possibly be eliminated. Also, this allows for better understanding of the need and does not threaten security. In doing this, there is less
incident that it is very important to act vigorously with our colleagues in a sensitive matter to safeguarding patient’s health (McGillivray et al., 2007).
The original state of knowledge is truth. There is a clear negation in declaring that 'Dr. Smith is aware that that X is correct, even supposing X is false.' One may maintain to know or deem or find out that X is true, which is attuned with declaring that X is false. A query one may regard as then is: What is truth? There are those who consider Protagoras, a philosophical opponent of Socrates, that there are as a lot of interpretations of the notion of truth as there are people who declare that for some statement, X, is accurate for them. Some contemporary and modern supporters of Protagoras consequently say that truth is comparative.
During my first semester student clinical rotation, I was introduced to patient, 76 year old AB who was being treated at an assisted living facility. She was a wonderful patient and someone I immediately connected with. AB had been medically diagnosed with COPD and displayed all the classic physical signs of the disease such as wheezing, deliberate breathing, severe shortness of breath and nutritional deficit. She was my first patient as a student nurse and the first person I was able to complete a health assessment and nursing care plan for. I recognized early on that AB was special and someone who would be a great person to communicate with. With the initial assessment she was a little scared, but
When you have money in your back account, you are able to draw that money even if you are out of town and you are able to see the statement from any other branches. But when you discharge from a hospital the information does not exchanged that easily even to the clinic in the same street. Effective communication is the integral part of todays high-tech era. The information technology not only should assist in improving the communication but also an important catalyst for quality and cost reduction in health care. As the whole healthcare continuum is advancing in technology, the communication between the organizations and within the departments is an integral part of supporting patient engagement and introducing new models of care (American Hospital Organization, 2015). In this paper a report on finding solution to improve the communication and coordination between admitting, laboratory, pharmacy, and clinicians to increase throughput is discussed. The solution proposed is supported by HL7 and can be instituted without changing the existing software.
I was having a particularly wearying morning that day, as people with both diabetes and kidney failure often do. I had not gotten much sleep the night before, I woke up with a searing pain in my side, and my stomach felt hollow I was so hungry. I was then discouraged when I remembered what my diet actually allowed (practically nothing.) More time passed, and my stomach was putting up a fight, aching and growling. I had four phone calls that morning, each person the same as the next. Asking how I was doing, and proceeding to ball when I told them without a transplant, I may only have a year or less to live. When I was finished comforting them, I would go back to the tedious work of morning chores, trying to complete them without triggering any pain. When I finally did come to the task of getting the mail, I nearly neglected to get it because what’s the point anyways, but then mentally scolded myself for being negative and went to get it. I remember shuffling through the medical bills, coupons, more medical bills then finally coming across the letter. The envelope was smooth and white and it seemed
