Within our workforce society, individuals are either seen as unemployed or employed. I feel that the “LABOUR STILL ISN’T WORKING” ad has shown that the world has moved on and unemployment is no longer a threat. Individuals want an occupation that can bring them creativity and excitement. For the most part, working hard for something that has no interest causes stress for the individual and those who work hard for something they love find passion. In fact, this ad reveals propaganda because it falsely states that unemployment offices are constantly filled with people. When in reality people in our world want to attain a career path that stays in tune with their goals, dreams, and continuously keeps them moving forward. Furthermore, individuals
Seeing homelessness develop is a process that the older generation can say they have been apart of. The young generation, on the other hand, cannot say they have seen the development of homelessness. People who are thirty years old or younger have grown up believing that homelessness was always part of the landscape. The younger generation has come to believe that there have always been homeless people sitting on park benches. When an individual is asked what they see most in a large city like Chicago or New York, ‘homeless people’ is a common response. According to the United States Census Bureau, 320.8 million individuals currently live in the United States of America. Imagine the proportion of individuals that do not own a car or even a house to live in. The National Law Center on Homelessness and poverty did studied to conclude that in America more than 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. Those concerned with the issue of homelessness are curious as to what events had to have happened that lead to the individuals living on the streets. The reasons are different for each and every person. Some of the more major issues that contribute to this are lack of affordable housing, declining welfare assistance, and most importantly, mental illness. Resolving the issue of homelessness is very possible with new ways of housing and treatment for the mentally ill. The relation between the homeless and the mental illness has risen, and the United States as a whole

Personally, speaking I to was once part of the homeless population at the age of twenty I was living in a shelter with my two children. Throughout that time, I met several women also resided in the same shelter. Some of which has mental health issues such as depression. Nonetheless, after watching this video and I began to reflect on both the movie and my past experiences. I truly feel there is a lot of bias which exist within the mental health system. For instance, individuals with low incomes are treated differently due to their inability to pay or type of insurance.
The current social welfare issue that I chose to explore is homelessness within Canada. First, this essay will give a brief description of homelessness. Though our agency offers many resources to our clients, issues maybe beyond our scope. So to better help serve our clients I have put together this coordination of services plan to help us in referring our clients to the appropriate services offered by other agencies.
Homelessness typically becomes more prevalent in times of economic downturn or turmoil. However, according to the District of Columbia’s Interagency Council on Homelessness (DCICH), homelessness rates have been on the rise due to a variety of socioeconomic factors. These factors include rising income inequality, lack of affordable housing, depression of wages and public assistance programs, and the lack of mental health institutions that assist with the chronically homeless (Homeward D.C., 2015).
As mentioned before after leaving high school, I have traveled the United States holding several jobs ranging from Nursing homes to Outpatient Surgery Centers. Each job I held was certainly not a dream job but it paid most of the bills and gave me valuable life experience in the job market. It was actually because of unfortunate life events that I was forced to put the dream of attending college on the backburner.
Throughout history there has always been a considerable amount of the population that may have lived in not so ideal conditions. Some of the first written accounts of homelessness are seen from as far back as the middle ages. One would think that during this time there would not be people who don’t have food or shelter. Unfortunately in todays’ society there are many who don’t have a decent place to sleep every night. Homelessness can be so far from the conditions that a lot of people can relate to. If we are not aware of this population we can even become repulsed by the issues this population can create for our communities. It’s important however, to stop and think about how these people became homeless in the first place.
I think people are homeless because, homelessness and poverty are linked. Poor people are sometimes unable to pay for housing, food, childcare, health care, and education. At times some difficult choices must be made when limited resources cover only some of these necessities. Paying rent takes up a lot of ones paycheck so would be the first to go if money was tight. Two factors help account for increasing poverty: employment and the declining value and availability of public assistance. A lack of affordable housing and the limited housing assistance programs have contributed to the current housing crisis and to homelessness. But what all of this comes down to homelessness is defined as: The condition of a person or persons living without a regular dwelling...
Downtown Grand Rapids, flourishes with successful businesses. Both large companies and mom and pop shops compete in the city streets. One business in particular; however, was facing challenges. These banished are causing the challenges. Tattered and ghostly, these people hobbled around defacing the once glorified bakery. Causing the environment surrounding the delicious bakery to become an eyesore. It seems as though, as the years go on there is more homeless people being accounted for in the area. Jim Harger of mLive writes, “In the Grand Rapids area in 2015, there were 912 people counted without a home as to only 793 people in 2014.” Each year the number of homeless continues to rise, in turn, directly caused by the increasing rate of poverty
In the US, 3.5 million people experience homelessness each year. Social startups are now using technology to give homeless people a helping hand.
As always, tax season has sprouted right before the blossoms of springtime. Most of those experiencing homelessness do not file tax returns and would not endure consequences due to the little, if any, money they are making.
We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless. The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty. We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty” (Brainy Quote, 1997). In the past homelessness was known as a result of any war. Nowadays, the percentage of homeless people is around 60% worldwide. Also, the concept of homelessness is an expression that covers a huge number of countries which means it shifts from nation to nation. Individuals who are needy are regularly unfit to earn and keep up a standard, protected secure and sufficient stay. Being caused mainly by the individual’s conditions, homelessness can affect people’s health and personal life.
