Before leaders can model the way, they need to clarify their own values. “The employee should be praised for their outstanding performance. When the home depot pick a leader they pick it base on the quality, which has to be from within an individual”(To be a Great Leader, 2017). A leader cannot be made or created artificially; a person cannot be made a leader just because they have the seniority. There are certain other qualities that a leader should have. A leader should be able to foresee situations, predict instances, solve problems and guide juniors. “A leader should lead a team and guide them in the right direction with the right guidelines. There are four types of leadership that are of major focus in this theory and they are:
1. Supportive Leadership: The focus here is mainly on relationships. Any or all decisions are taken in the best interests of the team members and this kind of approach is best in conditions where tasks are repetitive or stressful. These approaches will in-turn increase the follower's self-esteem thereby making the job more interesting (Dessler, G. 2016).
2. Directive Leadership: This approach best suits the conditions where tasks or projects are unstructured. These approaches also work good when tasks are complex and team members are inexperienced. Further, in this approach a clear communication of goals and expectations are done. Appropriate guidance is also given all the way through to help the subordinates to reach their goal (Dessler, G. 2016).
3. Participative Leadership: This approach is best suited when the leaders believe in-group discussion and focus on mutual participation. This approach is also best when followers in the team or in a group are expert and their advice is both needed and they expect to be able to give it (Dessler, G.
Every group, team, or organization has a leader. That leader has to have certain qualities to be well respected and followed by his or her following. Not only does the leader have qualities and responsibilities to maintain but also the group’s members. Both the leader and individuals in the group must have respect, fear, and honesty among each other to be a productive group.

People working under directive leadership find that it is easier to be told what to do as opposed to thinking for themselves. The directive leader has the propensity to pursue goals with energy and persistence. He can also be task-oriented because he is more effective when the situation is in his favor. Participative leadership style has also been known as democratic leadership which is typically the most effective leadership style. According to Ferraris (2015), this leadership values the ideas of team members, but it is the leader responsibility for making the final decision. The group members feel engaged in the decision-making process and are more motivated to achieve the goals of the organization.
There are several ways that decision making can take place in an organization, one way is through directive leadership and another is through participative leadership. With directive leadership, the leader makes the decision and ensures the decision is carried out (Bass, 2008, p.875). Participative leadership has many more steps and requires more input from more sources or individuals which would lead one to believe participative leadership gives organizations a better opportunity to take the best ideas from more people and put into action a plan that has the support of the stakeholders from its development.
In providing leadership guidance to employees with the purpose to motive and influence employees, I would use the Participative Leadership Style. The Participative Leadership style addresses the improvements for increasing the productivity of employees as well as providing satisfactory to the employees. A leader can certainly appreciate the Participative Leadership Style because it is orientated to empower the employees by encouraging participation in the decisions process that directly affects the employees. Lastly, one last type is laissez faire management style. In this leadership management style, the team are free to complete the job or task in any way they wish. But the manager is still there to provide any guidance or answer to any questions the team may have. This is beneficial in allowing the individual to build up leadership skills which they can apply in future careers.
