The Know-Nothing Party started on the east coast in 1854. This party was made up of people who wanted to reserve "political office for native- born Americans" also of those who were anti- Catholic (Foner, 490). When people of this organization were asked about it they had to respond with "I know nothing" that's how it got it's name (Foner 490). Many immigrants were losing their jobs because of this party. What caused this organization to form was the party system being in crisis (Foner 489). It also was caused because there was more and more Irish and German immigrants coming to America. This party brought many problems for immigrants. Irish were discriminated in their jobs and other places. However Irish people weren't seen as badly because

The Native American Party, renamed the American Party 1855 and commonly known as the "Know Nothing" movement, was an American Nativist political party that operated nationally in the mid-1850s. It was an anti-Catholic and anti-immigrant movement, often taking the form of a secret society. The movement briefly emerged as a major political party in the form of the American Party. Adherents to the movement were to reply "I know nothing" when asked about its specifics by outsiders, thus providing the group with its common appellation The "Know Nothings" believed a "Romanist" conspiracy was afoot to subvert civil and religious liberty in America and sought to politically organize native-born Protestants in the defense of traditional religious and

It consisted of members of the Whig Party who were opposed to slavery. They were democrats that were against the expansion of
The origins of the Federalist and Democratic-Republican parties can be traced back to the early 1790s. Initially, the Federalists, or broad constructionists, favored the growth of federal power and a strong central government. The Federalists promulgated a loose interpretation of the Constitution, which meant that they believed that the government could do anything by the implied powers of the Constitution or that congress had the right to interpret the Constitution based on connotation. On the contrary, the Democratic-Republicans favored the protection of states’ rights and the strict containment of federal power. The Democratic-Republicans were strict constructionists and they

The party had just started when Donella and Lilith arrived. As Donella floated into the forest she admired the fanciful decor. There were fireflies trained to hover, providing the party with soft lighting. There were handmade tables veiled by skillfully woven spider silk. There were flower petals covering every inch of the ground. And there were fifty fairies playing traditional fairy songs on instruments made from items around the forest. The forest was ethereal; Donella felt as if she was in a dream.
On the day of the 1844 presidential election, the German editor of Louisville newspaper Beobachter urged the immigrant population to arm themselves and assert their rights at the poll. Later, native born citizens of Louisville gathered in front of the newspaper’s office and forced the editor to flee. The damage done by the inflammatory statements perpetuated, however: when Kentucky Senator Henry Clay lost against James K. Polk in the race for president, many people blamed the foreign vote. As a result of the 1844 presidential election, many Whigs began to drift towards the ideology of nativism in Kentucky. The nativist movement had begun garnering attention in localized areas throughout the rest of the United States as well. Nativism,
I founded the Federalist Party and I believe very strongly in many things. I am a slavery abolitionist, although I never had the power to do anything to abolish slavery I spoke out against the disgusting act when I could. I wanted to create a constitution that centered around a strong central governments and I believe the power should not shift too strongly on the public, that it could only lead to error, confusion and instability. I wanted to pay off the national debt after the war so that we could move on and so that other countries would see us as dependable and trustworthy, I do not like states and If I could I would have gotten rid of them all together. I believe that the best government is the British government and I designed my plan
Not only did this move reorganize three different organizations into one, but it also established a more unified system. This in turn helped communication and response to threats. With a single organization, instead of two or three, it helped keep the focus on the primary goal; there would be no more varying paths. It was basically unified under one leadership. Another reason that this was done was because the Customs and Border Protection was in need of a serious overhaul. Originally the Immigration and Naturalization Service received its roots after the American Civil war. Many states began passing their own laws regarding immigration, the federal government saw this as a problem and passed the Immigration Act of 1891, making immigration a federal manner.(2010, Immigration and Naturalization Service. Retrieved from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Customs_and_Border_Protection#U.S._Customs_Service.) In the early 1900’s immigration laws started becoming stricter to help protect U.S. citizens and their wages. Laws in 1921 and 1924 began limiting the amount of Immigrants entering the U.S. based on quotas. In 1940, President Roosevelt transferred the INS to the department of Justice where it would remain for the next forty three years. (2010, Immigration and Naturalization Service. The political parties today have undisputed role in the democratic process. Gaining importance throughout the 20th century, they proved to be an instrumental mobilizing device, aiming to involve the majority of the population in the political process for the first time in history. Moisei Ostrogorski was a pioneer in the field with his works comparing the political parties in the US and Britain. In his works he argued that parties are becoming inseparable part of the democratic process within the state “whenever this life of parties is developed, it focuses the political feelings and the active will of its citizens” (Ostrogorski in Hauge and Harrop:2010). Ostrogorski`s stance on the increasing importance of parties in a democratic state politics proved to be justified – in the countries of Western Europe, where the democratic tradition is strong, mass political parties competed for the votes of ever-increasing electorate. Parties proved to be important even in non-democratic societies – in fascist and socialist states single parties dominated the state, even in certain cases coalesced with it. The 20th century proved to be very important in the party development process. They discarded the image of engagement mainly in capturing the leavers of power and even ruling against the public will and interest. Since then parties have been accepted as a necessary instrument that shapes the collective interest, whose role is explicitly noted in the state constitutions. The topic of
Today, political parties are an authoritative and essential component of the United States political system. However, it is important to examine how the political parties began and evolved over hundreds of years, since they were first established. In 1794, the major political parties were the Federalists and the Democratic-Republicans. The major difference between these two was that the Federalists favored a strong central government, while the Democratic-Republicans preferred a central government with limited power and more state control. At the time of the election, it seemed that the prominent, distinguished Federalist Party clearly had the upper hand, but in the end the
