Throughout my high school career, I have been a member of the robotics team at Niceville High School. During my tenure, I embodied the mascot of robotics: the Radioactive Roach. Last year, I also served as the team's Safety Captain. Ordinarily a shy person, Robotics has pushed me out of my comfort zone by enabling me to take on a leadership position. An aspect of the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) organization, is that the teams must contribute to their community. The team has spread FIRST to all of the major middle schools and afterschool programs in the district. This wide range of service has allowed me to help the children in the community and the students on the Choctaw High School Robotics Team. I have been capable of teaching the students new ways of building their robots and helping them through their programs. FIRST embodies the vision of community rather than just competing with robots. The organization wants us to spread Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to anyone who wants to listen, and robotics has allowed me to help as well. …show more content…
I feel as though everyone saw me at the Homecoming parade and remembered the team due to the person in the roach costume. The children see me when I wear it to events that we volunteer at and become ecstatic. As Safety Captain, I protected the team and made sure that the students stayed safe while operating tools and following the safety rules. I was responsible for their lives and leading them in a safer direction so they may live on to contribute to the world. Robotics has allowed me to learn and excel in furthering my career as a mechanical engineer. I believe all of these qualities embody the same ideals of National Honor Society: leadership, character, academics, and service. I hope that you will consider my
Out of the four characteristics of National Honor Society, I felt the most important is a character. It’s because it distinguishes how your behavior shows daily the way you carry yourself every day. Got to bat for your convictions about great and awful, be your best self, and oppose social weight to do the wrong thing for the right reason. Good characters show respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, caring, and citizenship in all their actions every day. “Reputation is the shadow. The character is the tree.” - Abraham Lincoln. The quote explains that character is something that does not change, something that stays with all you that which characterizes you. No other person can control it. Status labeled that other give you, so,
Scholarship, leadership, character and service are all characteristics found in a National Honor Society member. I believe that I possess all of these characteristics and should be given the honor of receiving this NHS scholarship.
Imagine a VEX Robotics Competition and I, as a middle schooler, finding my passion. Robotics quickly took over my life as I worked hard to carry my team to the VEX World Championships not once, but three times. I earned awards left and right. I often earned awards for the performance of our robot, design, and presenting maturely to the judges. I was passionate and talented. I had set my eyes on being an engineer and doing what I loved as I grew up.
We all know that the National Honor Society is focused on the four main points of character, service, scholarship, and last but not least leadership. I am asking that you take consideration of these four points in my very own life.
Though my primary goal is to ameliorate my leadership skills, there are many reasons for my wanting to become a member of the National Honor Society. Not only would my membership appeal to colleges to whom I may be applying to, it would challenge me in such a way as to further develop valuable life skills, such as responsibility and character. Any collective efforts or activities made would allow me to build teamwork capabilities, hone project management aptitude, and make friends. My acceptance into the NHS would also guarantee future access to applications for the NHS Scholarship Program, which will financially aid me in entering the college of my choice.
I have many great qualities: Some of these qualities are leadership, service, scholarship, and character. As a member of FCCLA I have been able to expand these skills and characteristics to be able to help the community. Having these qualities has allowed me to help give a hand when I am able to and when it is needed. Although I already have these four characteristics, being a member of the National Honor Society would allow me to expand these qualities. Becoming a member would allow me to be more prepared for college and my future.
The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Having previously held a officer role in the National Junior Honor Society I have gained experience
Reaching my goal in becoming a member of the National Honor Society would give me a great sense of pride both academically and personally. As a person I have ambition, academic excellence, and great decision making skills to offer NHS. I have been striving to do my academic best for a chance to be in the NHS, I show this with my 3.5 GPA. The National Honor Society is based off four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service and Character.
On my visit to the Dunwoody campus, I could not wait to look around. I've been attending the Math and Science Academy for seven years. Even before my sixth grade year, I have always enjoyed constructing things, playing with building blocks, and making little robots. On the night of my sixth grade orientation, I visited my school to be and was surprised when I walked in the front door. I was greeted by an eight foot tall robot made by high school students. They were part of the program called For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST). I
It is an honor to be chosen as a candidate for membership in the National Honor Society. Academics, leadership skills, service abilities, and character are four principal parts of a superior student. I believe that I am inclusive of all these aspects needed to become a part of this prestigious group. Becoming a member of this organization is important to me, because it will help me get into an excellent college and push me to work harder in school.
Everyday, countless amounts of people are working hard, trying to change the world for the better. They are researching cures for cancer or taking twelve hour shifts to help keep oceans clean. There are people who are working towards a better world, and making life safe for the children in need, the animals in danger, and the men fighting for our country. Seeing these changes happen has motivated me to want to be a part of these developments. I wish to serve those around me, and believe that if I can have a positive impact on my community, it can affect the rest of the world. Therefore, I have made it my goal to be a part of the National Honor Society, in hopes that I can help my school, Middleville, and all who have impacted me. I believe that I represent the characteristics of scholarship, leadership, service, and character, and hope to use these qualities so that others may benefit.
National Honors Society students also exhibit the individual traits of sincerity, reliability, and honesty. My service experiences have made me become more sincere and genuine. I wish to provide hope for better lives in everyone. My history with leadership shows that I am willing to put forth the hard effort to help make dreams comes true, not just for me but for everyone else around me. My studies have shown me that a path of honesty and truth make a person truly stand out from the rest. It separates the hard workers from the people who cut
I was well positioned to execute the duties as Maintenance Control Safe for Flight Chief through two arduous detachments and work up cycles. I surpassed all expectations up and down my chain of command and was awarded appropriately for my leadership actions. I thrive on the opportunities to lead while providing mentorship and guidance to Sailors and Marines alike. My record of accomplishments as a professional, leader, manager and mentor exemplifies the traits required and will ensure my success if selected.
I am proud of joining Boy Scouts at the late age of fourteen. I was regarded as “unqualified” by adults of my troop. Most of the boys in my troop had been doing this for years before I joined. Yet, through their doubt I perceived and quickly gained rank, experience and character. In a matter of two years, I had obtained the rank of life and earned the respect of my peers. This respect came to light when I was elected to the position of Senior Patrol leader. The position of Senior Patrol Leader is usually reserved for the oldest and most experienced scout, yet in the eyes of my troop, I was the most capable for this task of leadership. Since I was previously being the one ruled, I knew what needed to be changed in order to maximise efficiency
This scholarship was created by Seymour Schulich to give an opportunity to youngsters to shine and innovate the world with their ideas. I mirror his interest in science and have the same vision to make a difference in lives of others. I am quite involved within my school and have participated in various activities and competitions throughout my high school years. I understand how important is to lead by example and make a difference in the life of others. In order to facilitate the interest of students in the field of STEM, I worked with teachers and peers to start a robotics program at the school. This program is very popular at my school and it gives students a chance to explore science and technology by doing hands-on work. This is a sense
