The movies/stories of High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are very similar but different in a way. Kane and Rainsford are the main characters of the stories. The two are being hunted down by their arch enemy. Frank Miller is Kane's enemy, and Zaroff is Rainsford's enemy. Kane's best friend, Harvey, wants to be in charge—the Marshall—after Kane leaves town with his new wife Amy. Rainsford defeats Zaroff, and he might take charge at Ship Trap Island if he decides he wants to. Frank Miller's crew hasn't done anything wrong yet to get arrested; however Zaroff did. In High Noon, Harvey tells Kane, "Well here's what I want you to do, Will. When the old boys come, you tell 'em you want me to be Marshall, and tomorrow they can tell the new man they're sorry but the jobs filled" (Winston 300). After the fight between Zaroff and Rainsford in The Most Dangerous Game, Rainsford wins. If he really wants to, he could decide to take over Zaroff place of hunting. A reason why he might do this is because, how will he get off of the island? He doesn't know how he will escape the island. Zaroff has lived there for plenty of years and was still living and still in good condition. He most likely has a good supply of food …show more content…
Frank Millers crew was standing where the Noon train will arrive so they can get together with Miller after he gets there. The people in the church suggested to just arrest Millers crew for what they did from before, but Kane can't arrest them because they haven't done yet. Now in The Most Dangerous Game, Zaroff has done countless wrong things to the people who have spotted his island. He had some of them beaten and whipped, then hunted them down and stored them in his cellar underneath of his place or house. He has most likely hit given them the food they need to be healthy. So as you can see Zaroff can be arrested for countless things for what he has done to these
High Noon was the story of a very brave man, Will Kane played by Gary Cooper, which is giving up his Sheriff position to become a homemaker with him wife. Just when they are leaving to start their new life together, there is news that four outlaws are coming back into town to seek revenge on
High Noon is a classic movie that is considered one of the greatest movies of all time. On the other hand, The Most Dangerous Game, written by Richard Connell, is just another short story. The main character of High Noon is Will Kane, and Sanger Rainsford is of the other. Both of these people are fighting for survival, but they cannot get help in one way or another because they are alone figuratively and physically; the setting is also similar yet nothing alike. Although the setting for High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are similar, other aspects of the stories are quite disparate.
High Noon, a critically acclaimed movie. "The Most Dangerous Game", an awarded short story. High Noon stars Will Kane, a sheriff who put a criminal in jail, and now is back for revenge on the noon train which is the only way in and out of the town. "The Most Dangerous Game" stars Rainsford, a hunter who gets stuck on a island who hunts men for sport, and is the next prey for the man. The stories might seem not different or similar to some people, but the setting, characters, and themes have both similarities and differences.
Zaroff thought he was going to get the best of Rainsford with everything he told him and everything he had saw. Zaroff was a pretty convincing guy, he wanted Rainsford to stay well he let him stay and start a conversation about him telling him about his self and how he ended up on his forbidden island. Rainsford had no clue of what was going on he just thought he was just a nice guy and everything.
The story "The Most Dangerous Game" and the movie "High Noon" both are stories based off of isolation. The role of Will Kane is played by the breathtaking actor Gary Cooper. Will Kane is the marshal for the town of Hadleyville. Will plans to leave town with his wife, Amy but plans soon change after he learns Frank Miller is coming back to get revenge. In the story "The Most Dangerous Game" the main character of the story Sanger Rainsford falls off of his boat where he winds up on Ship Trap Island. On Ship Trap Island Sanger runs into General Zaroff. General Zaroff lives on the island where he hunts people. After having a disagreement with General Zaroff Sanger has to play a game in order to stay alive. In these two stories you will see with difference comes similarities.
High Noon is based around the 1940's in an old western town. "Street from Kane's point of view. It is completely deserted" (Foreman 296). Isolation is an important aspect of this story. Kane desperately needs help, but no one is willing to help him. A dead man is what the whole of the town thinks of of him. Kane, the marshal, is left completely alone to help save the town, and apart from this, stretches of vast desert and prairie encircle around the town. The only way to escape is the train. Connell's story, "The Most Dangerous Game" uses remoteness to set the same effect. "But as he forged along, he saw to his great astonishment that all the lights were in one enormous building- a lofty structure with pointed towers plunging upward into the gloom" (Connell 215). These words depict a towering castle similar to that of Hogwarts from Harry Potter. Like Hogwarts this castle is lone and surrounded by dense jungle and all the while, it sits on an island in the Caribbean. Rainsford, also, becomes isolated from the world as he falls off a yacht. Like Will Kane, he is completely on his own. Both have no one to confide to and there no escape for either of them based on the land area. Together, these settings give a gloomy and lonely feeling to the
The themes High Noon and The Most Dangerous Game are actually mostly alike. In both of the stories, the main characters are alone, being hunted, learn about how selfish people can be, and are usually the people who hunt. In The Most Dangerous Game, Zaroff doesn't care about anyone or anything, and only shows the slightest bit of emotion when Rainsford kills one of his best dogs. "'You've done well, Rainsford,' the voice of the general called. 'Your Burmese tiger pit has claimed one of my best dogs. Again you score, I think, Mr. Rainsford.'" This happened again when Ivan gets killed. General Zaroff stops for a moment, and then moves on like Ivan was just another one of his toys that had to be replaced. In High Noon, Will Kane is left for dead by his friends and then told to leave the town. Also, he gets no help from anybody when they learn that Frank Miller is coming back to town to kill him. Even though the themes might be alike in many ways, in High Noon,
While comparing the two classics, High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game”, I found many similarities. High Noon takes place in a lawless, western town. The main character, Will Kane is faced with the difficult decision of whether to leave town or stay and risk death by Frank Miller, who was pardoned for murder. In “ The Most Dangerous Game”, the main character, Rainsford, a hunter who sympathizes with the hunted animals, is stuck on the stranded island called Ship-Trap. He is stuck there with General Zaroff, who owns the island and is trying to kill him as a part of the most dangerous game. Even though what is written above is different in each story, and High Noon and “The Most Dangerous Game” are very different stories, upon further
“Sure, we paid this man, and he was the best marshal this town ever had,” (Foreman 314). The marshal, Will Kane, has the advantage of knowing the antagonist and his surroundings while Rainsford does not. Although they are both set apart from civilization, Kane chooses to be secluded over getting on the train. Rainsford can’t choose to go elsewhere; he is stuck on the eerie Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff says, "It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home," (Connell 216). Rainsford is also unaware of the threat that Zaroff poses as, but Kane knew exactly who he was dealing with. In the end, Rainsford and Kane defeat their antagonists and acquire freedom from knowing that they are safe. They were intelligent men faced with difficult
During this part of the story, Zaroff is hunting Rainsford. Zaroff was able follow Rainsford to his hideout. I can tell that Zaroff was trying to kill him because he had a gun with him. In the movie, besides Frank Miller coming back for revenge, he got married to a Quaker. His wife, who’s name is Amy, is a Quaker.
Then Zaroff explains the rules of the game to Rainsford; the prey is given food, clothes, a knife, and three hour head start, if Zaroff doesn’t catch his prey within three days they’re is declared the winner and is sent home on a boat, so long as Zaroff’s game is not shared with others. If Zaroff catches his prey before the three day are up, they get kills and their head gets mounted on his wall. Then Zaroff tells Rainsford that anyone who refuses to be hunted gets tortured by Ivan and that he hasn’t lost the game yet because he is extremely skilled and uses his dogs if the game starts to look like a loss. Without this scene Rainsford wouldn’t have learned what “the most dangerous game” is; he wouldn’t have figured out why Zaroff created and plays this game, how the game is played, what happens before and after the game, and what happens to the people who refuse to play. Therefore without this scene the story wouldn’t make sense; without this scene there would be no story. That’s why this scene is the most important scene in “The Most Dangerous
In two stories entitled The Most Dangerous Game and High Noon, we find that the two stories are very similar, yet rather different. In The Most Dangerous Game written by Carl Foreman a world renowned hunter named Rainsford fights for his life, while participating in a game ran by Zaroff. In High Noon, a film written by Richard Connel, a Marshall fights to save his life all alone.
Will Kane and Rainsford are the main characters in danger. Zaraff is a crazy sociopath. "We'll have a good hunting game up the Amazon" (Connell 242). Zaraff doesn't think hunting humans is bad thing. He thinks of it like a fun outside game of chess. Zaraff gives Rainsford two choices either playing the hunting game, and if he refuses to play he will beaten to death
General Zaroff is an intelligent as well as insensitive hunter, who has no real ambition in life except to hunt. Yet, he has defeated all prey and now he doesn't know what to do next. He changes into a two-faced savage once he finds the “the ideal quarry ... It must have courage, cunning, and, above all, it must be able to reason”, keeping him occupied for as long as he wishes. You would think he is a “cold-blooded murderer, considering his life's purpose was to pursue humans, yet some points go against that. In mid-conversation with Rainsford after his arrival, Zaroff stresses, “I always got my quarry. Always. There is no greater bore than perfection.” Zaroff's realization on this fact caused him to seek quarry that could keep him occupied.
No family or friends of Zaroff are mentioned, and the only emotion he shows in the story is when his doorkeeper, Ivan, is killed by Rainsford. This seems to indicate that Zaroff has no emotional ties to anyone, and puts himself first (Connell’s The Most Dangerous Game).
