Hi Emily, Thank you for your previous comments on my personal statement. They are really helpful and make my statement read a lot better and more "alive". I have slightly modified my statement based on the comments I received and am wondering whether you could take a look if it is convenient? Thank you again for your advice. Kuan-Yi
Imagine being informed that the water with which you bathe, brush your teeth, and cook is the root of many serious and sometimes fatal health problems. Sadly, this is the case for a majority of the citizens in Flint, Michigan. According to an online article titled “This is how toxic Flint’s water really is,” by reporter Christopher Ingraham, the culprit is high concentrations of lead that have leached into tap water from lead-containing pipe systems and fixtures as they slowly corrode. The article also informs that although nearly all citizens were exposed to the hazardous water, some exposures were found to be worse than others (Ingraham). Additionally Ingraham states “A group of Virginia Tech researchers who sampled the water in 271 Flint homes last summer found some contained lead levels high enough to meet the EPA 's definition of ‘toxic waste." With lead being the culprit, and nearly all citizens being exposed to the contaminated water, Flint has found itself in a near epidemic.
Should the constitution be ratified? In this case i’m on the federalist side. I picked the federalist side because ratify the constitution will empower and establish our federal government. Another reason why I picked the federalist side is that the weak central government of the Articles of Confederation needs to be strengthened. The first argument the federalist should use to convince the public that ratifying the proposed constitution does not threaten Americans natural rights as outlined in the Declaration of Independence is the federal courts have limited sovereignty, leaving many areas of the law to the state and local courts.
I call myself Emily Chen. On the surface, I am like most typical students: serious about school and prepared for exams. I review for exams and the results reflect my hard work; my grades are not the top of the class but I know that I tried my best. I have ambitions and dreams along the path of education and determined to achieve it. I want to attend Manhattan/ Hunter Science High School because of its rigorous early college high school program; I want to attend a high school where I can learn and experience more than I could in any other high school.
I was born the fourth of December 1991 in Cranbrook British Columbia. I lived there for 18 years. Before joining the military I worked as a fry cook at a Burger King for three years and held part time jobs working for the College of the Rockies summer camp programs during the summer. My parents are currently living together in Cranbrook BC. My father works outside the province testing railway tracks for two months at a time, then returns home for two to three weeks. My mother acts as the main contact point of the family, she works as a financial clerk. I have a 22 year old sister who will be attending university in Calgary this September. I attended Mount Baker Secondary School in Cranbrook and graduated in 2009
USciences gives me the opportunity to attain higher education. By attaining higher education, I will be able to apply the knowledge and experiences I have gained in the workplace. Furthermore, USciences provides a great opportunity of various clinical settings, hands on experience, and allows me to be a part of a diverse group of individuals within the community. I believe hands on experience in various clinical settings will enhance my ability to provide better care for my patients. By enhancing my abilities, I will feel more confident in what I do in the future. Like any other career, I feel like it is important to feel confident in your job. For example, with physical therapy, patients are trusting the physical therapist to provide the best
As the EM resident and I hurried to the resuscitation room, we learned that EMS was transporting Mr. W, a 59 years old male with a STEMI. Since the hospital didn’t have a cath lab, whether to give a thrombolytic before the transfer to a different facility was now the question. Mr. W wanted his family to make the decision. This was the first family meeting I had attended that had such an urgency to it, yet it needed to be in setting where time could stand still. After the discussion, Mr. W’s daughter asked me, “if he got the medication, would his chances of surviving increase?” I began to realize the power of information and just how important decision making in the ED was upon outcomes for patients. Finally, Mrs. W decided we should give the thrombolytic and the

As an undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico I have become increasingly aware of the complex network problems that I face as a citizen of the world. I have also realized the progress and success that I enjoy in the same capacity as the frontiers of medicine, technology and communication continue to expand. My desire to participate in the resolution of those problems and in the further expansion of those frontiers had inspired me to seek a degree in biology and entrance into a School of Dentistry. I intend to successfully complete program of dentistry and further my specialization in the area of endodontics. Upon completion of my
Emily Harris killed some time in the waiting room, pulling out her compact to reapply her lip gloss. The face that stared back could have been in a magazine. High cheekbones, pouty lips, big blue eyes. A similar one had been seen in magazines about 25 years back, when her mother had been a successful model. Before she aged out of the profession at 30. Before she found a new occupation as a trophy wife to a successful hedge fund manager. Both were very happy, as they got exactly what they wanted. He got the companionship of a beautiful younger woman, and she got to live a life of wealth and comfort. What could possibly be a better model for successful romantic relationships than that?
I have always been captivated by the way authors influence the emotions of their readers with expression of thought and vivid details. I am mesmerized by the past events that has shaped today’s future. The feel of speaking a foreign language and communicating with foreign people has always seemed enchanting for me. Consequently, the study of English, Social Studies, and Foreign Language has appealed uniquely to my imagination. I think the Academy will be a valuable experience for me because I read willingly and enthusiastically, take responsibility for my learning, and enjoy challenges.
I have no previous ED experience, however, my knowledge and skills from ICU practice; especially detailed pts’ assessment, management of acutely ill pts, task management under constant pressure, together with my recent volunteer experience in street clinics in India would be beneficial for taking upon the post. I am keen to become a part in the A&E/ED and for the opportunity of career
I am writing to apply for a transfer from a Biology major to study in Applied Economics and Management (AEM).
Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. While native students of

In our lives, we have to make important choices, and sometimes our choices determine our happiness or sadness. As a Filipino, our families tell us to do well in school and to not make bad choices because they want us to be successful and to have ethical morals. Growing up as a Catholic, I was taught to be obedient and respectful to my family which has shaped who I am today. Yet, I too made some mistakes, and I learned from the consequences. From my failures, I learned to not belittle myself, but to grow.
