Discuss the effectiveness of a range of health promotion strategies in relation to young people (6 marks)
Current attitudes towards health promotion in young people are significantly understood by the importance of the determinates of health such as income, level of education, cultural beliefs, geographic location and employment. For an effective long term outcome on health promotion it involves several approaches to bring about this change. This includes lifestyle and behavioural approaches, public health approaches and preventative medical approaches.

Although this creates a decent future for young people it also may provide them with a sense of false hope as many may become extremely reliant on one simple test. For example childhood immunisation programs prevent against diseases such as the whopping cough and Measles that allow for a protection in young children. This protects any health risk of reoccurring but has also created controversy between those against immunisation as they believe vaccines can cause many health risks such as autism.
Public health approaches distinguishes the role played by outside factors that influence individuals and their immediate health system. The established programs, policies and services that are trying to create supportive health within a wide range of social and economic contexts seek to empower many to exercise control over their own health and improve the ability to work together within their profession. For example health promoting schools collaborate together to protect the health of students through a supportive school environment, these programs include Mind Matters which looks at the mental health and wellbeing of young people. Overall this positively influences young people as it promotes for a supportive health environment as it advocates so a broad range of people for all different areas of life although similar to the Lifestyle and behavioural approaches it allows for individuals

Health Promotion This is the process of allowing people to have more control over their health as this will help improve their health and well-being. It focuses on individual behaviour towards a wide range of social and interventions. Health promotion is how health is shown for example to challenge obesity change 4 life is used so people can have a guidance on how to make their lifestyle healthier. It also shows that health promotion is aimed at individuals whose health is at risk from any diseases from lifestyle factors, which lets individuals take control over their health. By being able to have control over their health it shows individuals what may have happened if nothing was done of it

Health promotion is the process of enabling people to have control over and improve their health. It examines the importance of including ethnic and cultural factors to be incorporated in health. The goal of universal education cannot be achieved while the health needs of all remain unmet. Health protection explains how people maintain their health on a daily basis.
For many years, health promotions and prevention has been the focus for healthcare providers, especially nurses. Health promotion seeks to improve a person or population’s health by teaching about and helps people become more aware of risky behaviors associated with different diseases. It encourages individuals to take preventative measures to prevent onset or worsening of a disease or illness. It encourages a healthier lifestyle (Edelman & Mandle, 2010). The strategy is to help people make health improvements or prevention before illness occurs.
The three health promotion approaches individual, community or organisational and public policy and practice can all be applied in a health promotion setting.
The World Health Organization (WHO) defined health promotion as “The process of enabling people to increase control over, and to improve, their health. It moves beyond a focus on individual behavior towards a wide range of social and environmental interventions.”

Definition of Health Promotion is increasing awareness, indentifying alternatives and influencing attitudes of the people, so that they can make an informed decision and change their behaviors to achieve an optimal level of mental, physical and social health. The World health Organisation says Health promotion is a method using an assortment of social and environmental interventions to support individuals in managing and improving their own health. (WHO, 2016).
This report explores the fundamental role of Health Promotion to the health sector and individuals in relation to their biological, psychological and sociological aspects. To discuss its practical role in the society, a health promotion model is related to a family that lives in socially deprived district as determined by Welsh Index of Multiple Deprivation (2014). Health promotion aims a wide range of targets at different levels in the community. The huge benefits resulted from health promotion and disease prevention efforts make many realize that this domain of health care is worth to be invested in. The focus is shifted evermore from the medical to the preventative approach, from treating the disease to avoiding the onset of it.
Some of the emerging trends in the health promotion are the shift of the diseases from acute diseases to chronic disease. This has yielded a lot of pressure on health promotion and wellness (Future Trends in Health Promotion, 2015). The health promotion is expected to change focus to strategies that will ensure that health promotion will now be focused on long-term interventions that will enhance behavioural change. People need to be more educated on these diseases. Another eminent trend is the privatization of wellness and health promotion (Future Trends in Health Promotion, 2015). Many private entities are now engaging in health promotion, and this has caused a revolution in the health promotion.
