Tobacco smoking has been known to cause over 400,000 deaths every single year in the U.S (Wiley, 2011). Discussing how it would affect your mind and physical health. Knowing there are many influence factors that has a big role in many people starting to smoke. The first would be family history/background. This is most common factor because most people start when they was a child/ teenager. This would be coming from homes where family members smoke around the children’s, and the children tend to follow the parents. Children sometimes love to imitate their parents and any older sibling they think is acceptable to do (Wiley, 2011). Another great factor would be peer pressure; it is so similar to family history as well. Young teen’s younger children see their friend doing it and they get so much help and encouragement to try and do it. Some feel as though they may lose their friendship or “cool points” with their friends, which is so much more important to them. Not knowing the more you hang with the friends that smoke, the more you’re going to smoke until your now become addicted on your own. Now you can no longer quit, it becomes hard and uncontrollably hard to quit. Once again smoking doesn’t just affect the smoker it also affect the co-workers at the workplace, but for the smoker you would start needing unscheduled smoke breaks. Why? Because
According to “The Action of Smoking and Health,” every six seconds someone loses their life as a result of a tobacco related disease. It’s hard to realize how damaging cigarette smoking’s effect can be until you experience it first hand. It is almost certain that every one knows someone who is currently a smoker or was a smoker at some point in their life. For years smoking was the seen as the “cool” thing to do, it was how to “fit in.” There was no real emphasis placed on the dangers of this particular habit, and as a result, it became a world wide trend. In the past, technology and medicine were not nearly advanced enough to be able to determine just how harmful tobacco usage is. However, as we have made medical and
It can stain your teeth and gums, resulting in yellow teeth and bad breath which can affect your social life. It can cause sexual problems for men by reducing the amount of sperm they can produce. It has also been proven that 'smoking causes aging of skin' (Buzzle 36), because the skin is deprived of blood. Pregnant women should not even try to smoke cigarettes during their 9 months because of the harm it could do to the baby and themselves. The affects of smoking on women and the child during pregnancy are as follows: high possibility of miscarriage, pregnancy complications and possible death of the baby. These are just a small variety of facts on smoking and how dangerous it can be, yet millions of people across the U.S choose to smoke anyways, without realizing the harm it can doing to their bodies. For secondhand smokers, the same principle applies. Don’t smoke and you will live a healthy lifestyle. I have personally seen many of my friends who hang around with their other friends that happen to smoke. When I confront them about the harm it is doing to them, they tend to ignore the advice I offer, so I let them be, hoping that one day they will realize that smoking harms more people than just the smoker themselves. It causes harm to the people around them and to the environment, increasing the pollution in our world. Former U.S vice-president Al Gore, believes that smoking is
The reason people become addicted to tobacco is nicotine, a chemical that affects both your mood and your physical brain. It gives your brain temporary pleasure, and makes you want to use more tobacco, which leads to dependence on the substance. It is the nicotine that gets a person addicted to tobacco, but the other substances in tobacco that have physical effects on the user. The continued use of tobacco can cause many deadly health conditions, and it is responsible for about 1 out of 6 deaths in the United States. There are currently more than 16 million Americans living with a smoking caused disease. “On average smokers die 10 years earlier than non-smokers.” (cdc.gov) Tobacco addiction is also responsible for at least 480,00 deaths per year in the United
The use of tobacco is unhealthy. It increases blood pressure, respiratory problems, and heart rate, just like cocaine or heroin would do. That may seem like a big comparison, however if it can save ones life, then it is necessary. Why would one want to potentially harm themselves? If you do the math, overtime, some would call tobacco use a suicide attempt. You are only making yourself worse when being around tobacco or using it. Smoking causes premature aging, wrinkles, and skin discoloration. Tobacco causes gum infection and gingivitis, which will also run up a dentist bill, and those are not cheap. Overall tobacco is just leading those who use it into

Josephine presents a bold assertion defining the nature of bad habits using diction. In her introduction, she states, “if it is repeated enough, times, the habit can turn into an addiction, and if there is nothing to control it, it can become an obsession (Adair 1).” She utilizes powerful words like “addiction”, “control”, and “obsession” to highlight the level a bad habit can reach without intervention while her words radiate a stern tone in a direct and effective manner. In addition, she questions the importance of survival stating, “A humans’ first instinct is survival, so why do people continue to smoke tobacco products…. if they understand the unavoidable risk” (Adair 1). The word “unavoidable” actualizes the damaging effect of smoking

Cigarettes are the most important substance to address in the United States because they are not only extremely addictive, but they have the potential to cause a variety of serious health conditions and affect individuals who are close to and care for the user. Tobacco use poses a serious health threat especially among the young population of America and has significant implications for the nation’s public and economic health in the future. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the impact of cigarette smoking on the economy is huge. Seventy-five percent of American health care money spent is due to the effects of tobacco causing various chronic diseases. Such diseases include, diabetes, heart disease, cancers, congenital defects, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), stroke, birth defects, etc. “Cigarette smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causes many diseases, and reduced the health of smokers in general” (CDC, 2015).
Tobacco causes heart diseases. A lot of people like to smoke tobacco and it is not good for you. When you smoke tobacco you can get yellow teeth and you will notice you’ll have bad breath which now one wants that. Tobacco can also cause cancer and lung disease. There are 200 known chemicals that are in a cigarette that is a lot of chemicals that you are putting into your body. When you smoke it reduces the amount of blood that goes to your brain.
Furthermore, in USA, nearly one of every five deaths is caused by tobacco. However, 32.9 percent of full time college students between 18 to 22 years old has smoke in the previous 30 days in 2001 and according to (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2002) for the young adults the rate was higher that is 44.6 percent. Thus half of Adolescents who have already smoke 100 cigarettes or even more will smoke for at least 16-20 years (Pierce and Gilpin 1996)
There are many dangers in tobacco. Diseases that come with cigarettes, cigars, and spit tobacco. Diseases that ruin your life, and some of them never go away. Emphysema, a disease that destroys the avoli in your lungs, is one of these diseases. It is chronic, which means it never goes away. The avoli are how your lungs take in oxygen. If you can’t take in oxygen, you can’t do things as simple as take deep breathes. Can you imagine having to stop every few seconds to catch your breath? Many cancers can be caused by tobacco, one of the worst is lung cancer. Lung cancer is caused by the growth of a tumor in your lung. This tumor destroys the tissue in your lungs. Lung cancer can put tobacco users in the hospital, and even kill them. Leukoplakia is another disease that can come from tobacco. It might not be as dangerous, but it can be the cause of cancers. Another consequence that spit tobacco can cause is hairy tongue. This happens when the papilla (hairs) on your tongue fail to fall off. These hairs accumulate,
If I choose to smoke as an American citizen I will if I want simply because it is my right to do so, I mean after all is that not what this country was founded upon in the first place? Freedom? Yes it is. Since this is true why would we say you can have your freedom to do as you please but place stipulations on it? Since the United States is a free country it should be anyone`s right to smoke even if he or she exposes children to secondhand/thirdhand smoke, especially since recent studies show that the risk of second-hand and third –hand smoke has been gradually decreasing , and there are many health hazards other than those associated with smoking that cause death. Smoking is not a subjective activity because people have an option to be around you or not. Granted you should be considerate when smoking around you kids or anyone else’s kids for that matter. But that does not mean that you cannot smoke around kids at all. I am not saying that second-hand, or third-hand smoking isn’t a reality, it is but studies show that second-hand smoke has decreased in recent years meaning that smoking around children is not as big of a risk as one may have it once thought it to be.
Also, smoking is bad for you because it is very harmful to the body. When you first start to smoke it starts to affect your lungs. You have trouble breathing. Eventually if you don 't stop smoking that can turn into lung cancer. That is not all. Turlington states "The list of diseases caused by smoking has been expanded to include abdominal aortic aneurysm, acute myeloid leukemia, cataract, cervical cancer, kidney cancer, pancreatic cancer, pneumonia, periodontitis, and stomach cancer”. There are so many risk of smoking. Why would you risk yours. Not only does it hurt the smoker 's body, but it harms people around them. It 's called second hand smoke. Second hand smoke can also give you the same symptoms as smokers. There is not safe environment around smokers. Elsevier B.V say about, "Worldwide, 40% of children, 33% of male non-smokers, and 35% of female non-smokers were exposed to secondhand smoke in 2004".This exposure was estimated to have caused 379, 000 deaths from ischemic heart disease”. Since this was in 2004 think about the how high the numbers are now.
I’m sure most of you already know that smoking cigarettes or using any type of tobacco product is very addictive. There are several forms of tobacco, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, etc. With multiple forms of tobacco having their own harmful effects; they all boil down to unfriendly outcomes, including cancer and possibly death. So why do people use tobacco products? Perhaps when people started using tobacco products they did not know it could be harmful. A good example would be years ago when smoking cigarettes started as an uninformative fad with advertisements drawing people in to partake in the trend. It was unknown at that time just how dangerous the fad would end up being. Unfortunately, after many years of research, tobacco use has proven that what was once perceived to be cool was and is really a potential death trap. “Smoking cigarettes account for approximately 443,000 deaths a year in the United States.” (“People”) According to Dr. Oz, “Smoking kills almost a half a million people every year in the U.S. alone, primarily from cancer (41%), heart disease (32.7%), and
People should stop smoking cigarettes because it is very unappealing. Smoking cigarettes is bad not only for your health but for your outer appearance. You will have bags under your eyes. According to John Hopkins study, smokers are four time more likely to feel unrested after a night’s sleep compared to a nonsmoker. Nicotine in the cigarettes can cause your teeth to lose the whiteness and actually make your teeth yellow. Not only will your teeth turn yellow, so you’re your fingers. Smoking also leads to premature aging and wrinkles. Smoking cigarettes you have a higher chance of lose teeth due to dental problem caused from the harmful chemicals in cigarettes. One could argue and say that smoking is cool because all of their friends do it. Most smokers that are addicted started smoking in high school. About 39.4% to 30.1% of high schoolers smoke cigarettes. Kids get peer pressured into smoking to “fit in” and then end up addicted. Adult smokers grew up hearing that smoking cigarettes were ok. In the early 1950’s tobacco companies started booming. Back then cigarettes could be advised on television and could even
