Today's current society is very linear. In it's core it is tied to rules and regulations that dictate the way things are to behave. There is no better way to break from this box than through art, because truly art is the only escape from the utterly mundane. It is the tool people use to turn what is ordinary, into what is extraordinary. Take the worldwide best selling novel series Harry Potter. Hundreds of Thousands of people have at any point in their lives, picked up Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, and were transported to an amazing world where Wizards and Trolls and Goblins all lived. It is an amazing piece of literature that allows people some release from their otherwise average lives. They could sit down, and not worry about their
In “Letter from Brimham Jail,” Dr. Martin Luther King uses logos to help his fellow Clergymen to understand and empathize with his actions to the Clergyman. Dr. King states “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” (paragraph 1 Pg. 219 Dr. Martin Luther King) This example of logos is where he tries to explain to the clergymen that when there is unfairness such as injustice a state away, that he feels it is his calling and too compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my home town to one they call first aid.
Art is used in mass media to influence people, especially people in the generation and culture we live in today. The majority of art young people receive in our culture is through television and in particularly popular culture networks, like MTV. The television show on MTV called The Hills is an example of a show that promotes dominant ideology to young children/ teenagers. Slightly opposite of that would be another show on MTV called Jersey Shore, which is an example of a show that partly reinforces and partly challenges dominant ideology to the same type of audience. The two shows are looking at people who are in their 20s and there life as they live it in their current situation, they both claim to be reality television with no scripts.
A hero can be defined as someone who places themself at great risk, while performing acts of courage. This definition can be related in the epic poem, Beowulf, and the novel, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer 's Stone. In each story, both leading characters are born destined to defeat the most evil creature in their world. Beowulf is the oldest surviving epic poem in the world. “Beowulf” was written in 1000 AD, in Old English form. In this poem the main character, Beowulf, challenges an evil monster, Grendel and a dragon, to a battle to save Denmark. 1,300 years later, in 1997, the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer 's Stone was published. Written by JK Rowling, Harry Potter became an instant success and was read by millions of people all over the world. In this novel, the main character, Harry Potter, is sent to Hogwarts Witchcraft and Wizardry. At Hogwarts, Harry realizes that it is his destiny to kill Lord Voldemort, the most evil creature in the wizard world. Even through culture change, Harry Potter and Beowulf can be compared. They can be compared because both heroes are destined to fight evil, lead a group of people, and save the innocent lives of others.

One of the reoccurring events that takes place in the beginning of the book include Harry 's desire to hear from his friends. He has gone a couple of months without receiving word, or owl post, from any of his fellow wizards. He is reminded several times that he seems to have no outside friendship from his home. With his encounter with Dobby, the house elf, Harry cannot help but feel left out and unwanted. This feeling is added to by the hatred that his foster family, the Dursley 's, share for him. Dudley, Harry 's cousin, basically rubs the fact that Harry has no letters from his friends in his face. To add to Harry 's unease and loneliness, is the fact that Harry 's birthday has arrived with no more

The man, that hasn’t done anything wrong, is put to death. Convicted for the killing three people he didn’t even know but, yet they still believe it was him. Though there was very little evidence. Before the man was strapped to the gurney he mumbles a few simple words “ I thank, you mother. For giving me the life that I have lived.” within a few minutes the man is dead from three doses of three different substance. The man accepted his fate. This year let alone six states killed people on death row with Texas killing the most, thirteen people. The US sees it as a way to get rid of the criminals who have destroyed everyone hopes and dreams, but the way some people see it is more sentimental. The way they believe is that the will pay for their
Throughout the novel Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, written by J. K. Rowling and the movie directed by Chris Columbus, it is evident that both depict their main characters as heroes and damsels in distress. Hermione is viewed as fragile and helpless in a time of peril whereas Harry and Ron are viewed as courageous and ready to face anything that comes their way. Sexism differentiates and exaggerates the actions of the main characters, as seen throughout the troll scene, prolonging the ideology of a female’s dependence on men, thus diminishing a female’s sense of equality and ability in society.
The narrative structure of a story is extremely important because it is the reason the reader feels attracted or not towards the story. J.K. Rowling, the author of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, narrated her story in a way that makes it easy to comprehend and maintains the reader attracted to it. Rowling included several types of events throughout the novel that makes the reader follow the story without getting lost in the middle of the story. The author introduces characters without getting the reader lost, makes the reader dislike certain characters due to their characteristics, and presents conflicts between good and evil.
The entertainment industry is one of the most popular forms of recreational activity for many people. With the movie industry being a large factor of the entertainment industry, it is no wonder that roughly $36 million is spent solely on the marketing costs for a movie (McClintock). The movie industry throws so much money into their movie trailers in an attempt to attract the largest consumer base possible in order for their movie to have a high profitability. Several different factors are involved in the process of making a movie trailer and the use of these factors can drastically affect whether or not the movie trailer becomes a success and attracts a large consumer base or utterly fails and does not attract a large audience. The movie trailer for Fantastic
The period of the book is an unspecified time, modern and roughly up-to-date. The story of Harry Potter came to J. K. Rowling on a train ride from Manchester to London in 1990. She was a single mother of a daughter and living on welfare in Edinburgh, Scotland, when she began to write the novel. She began writing in a café while her baby, Jessica, napped. Rowling soon shot up to fame and fortune.
Looking back when I watched Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, I would have never realized that movies can teach us something about ourselves, like our feelings and emotions, and that movies have a deeper meaning—movies aren’t only made to entertain audiences, there to teach them. Usually it is about good vs. evil, but sometimes you have to determine the black from the white.
Good art allows me to flee the realms of reality. In my mind's limitless consciousness, I can escape the mundanity of everyday life. It opens a door in my head to a world only limited by my imagination. I am no more a slave to gravity, chained down on the earth when I am reading. I can be a bird and soar high above the clouds, or be a fish and swim deep down in the darkest depths of the ocean. I am there, I am that person, and everything else around me regardless of what it is, fades away. Sometimes these people are the one's I'd like to be but sometimes I encounter nefarious characters I wholly condemn. I am able to feel the emotions that the artist intends for me to feel. However, it is not merely reading or listening, but understanding
