Lanza’s classroom, one is immediately facing her desk, which is positioned in front of the windows on the opposite wall of the classroom directly across from the door. Whiteboards and bulletin boards, as well as a “Smart Board,” cover the span of the wall between the door to the hallway and Mrs. Lanza’s desk, and to the right of her desk is an instructional station comprised of two trapezoid tables pushed together with four chairs placed around it. A ledge spans in a “U” shape around the classroom, from the corner where Mrs. Lanza’s desk sits to the opposite wall. A bookcase rests on top of the ledge at the back of the classroom, and a cart containing laptops and chargers is found in the back of the classroom in front of the ledge. Two cabinets containing various classroom supplies are found on the wall opposite Mrs. Lanza’s desk. There are four clusters of student desks in the middle of the classroom. Three of the clusters contains six student desks, with the fourth containing seven. Each cluster is two desks wide by three desks long, with the fourth group having an additional desk stationed at the “head” of the cluster in the center of the two columns. A rough model of Mrs. Lanza’s classroom is as
To set the demographics, Lacy Elementary School is a 60-year-old neighborhood school. Originally built to accommodate 500 students, the school is now over capacity, reaching a high enrollment of 650 students. Located in an urban school district, a majority of the students qualify for the federal breakfast and lunch program. The district has recently experienced a new rezoning, and in result there are buses now bringing 200 students from the surrounding neighborhoods to the school. Lacy Elementary opens its’ doors at 7:30 a.m., although school doesn’t begin until 8:30 a.m. Teachers are not required to report to school until 15 minutes prior to school beginning, however, teacher assistants or paraprofessionals are paid a stipend to supervise students before and after school. Although they have this opportunity, there are only two individuals who have chosen to supervise in the breakfast program. To provide additional assistance, PTA volunteers and administration are currently helping supervise when able.

For my observation, I went and visited Ivor Dent school, Ivor Dent is the new school that has opened near Abbottsfield, Edmonton. The school was named after a man named Ivor Dent, he is most well known for opening the LRT system, however he was also the principal of Rundle School in 1980. This is important to note, since Ivor Dent opened three other schools in the neighbourhood were closed, Rundle elementary school, Lawton elementary and R.J. Scott Junior high. Due to the mix of the three schools Ivor Dent welcomes kids from kindergarten all the way to grade nine, this year they have had 423 students enroll. This school has been built in a low-income community and is labelled as an inner-city school. To meet the extraordinary needs of all their students Ivor dent offers regular classroom programs, behavioral and learning assistance program and full day kindergarten. Ivor Dent is based on the four corner stones that all Edmonton public schools follow: equity, accountability, collaboration, and integrity.
Every month the spring side community leaders inspect every house in springside, and decide which house is worthy of the yard of the month title. This is a friendly even competition between the springside community, but it hasn't been so even for the last three months. When you turn the corner onto crestknoll way you see a house with a blue mailbox and matching blue flower pots near a big rock in the yard, this house, house 2401 has won the yard of the month award for the last three month. In this story I will be talking with the people behind this yard of the month streak. I will also tell some of the tricks that house number 2401 uses. The target audience for this video would definitely be anyone interested in winning yard of the month in the springside community, and anyone who would be interested in keeping their
West is next for the 8th graders at Hadley Jr high. With only a month left in the school year 8th graders are getting more and more anxious. Last Friday students went to a dance at Glenbard West. They got to meet the sophomore and students from other schools.
In 2007, the school had a change in leadership and had students attend 2 periods per day, mourning class and afternoon class. They would complete a semester's worth of work in 21 days, then focus on 2 additional classes for another 21 days. So that at semester, students would have completed 6 classes like the rest of the building. The only hiccup with this is attendance was so bad, if students missed more than 2 days it was equivalent to missing 3 weeks of school at the comprehensive setting. Students had to have homework logs documenting how many hours of homework they had completed.
P.S. 38, The Pacific School, is part of District 13. The school is located near the up-and-coming Atlantic Ave/Barclay’s Center area in the Boerum Hill/Cobble Hill neighborhood in Downtown Brooklyn. It is a neighborhood school with grades ranging from Pre-K through 5th grade. The school is a testing location for the citywide test to the gifted program, and consequently offers scholar classes for students in the schools Gifted & Talented Program (G&T). And although the school is located near the busy Atlantic area on Flatbush, the blocks surrounding the school are quite. Across the street from all sides of the schools are trendy townhouses and locals walking their dogs, jogging, and parents/nannies pushing baby carriages.
A typical eight-period school day would have eight forty-seven minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and five minutes between each class period, lasting the whole school year (7). A typical four-period school day would have four ninety-two minute long classes with a thirty minute lunch and seven minutes between each class period (7). The first four classes go from the middle of August to around the middle of January, then the next four go from the middle of January to the end of May.
. My students’ desks were usually found to be in groups of four and five, but the kids could be found on the floor all around the room any time they had an opportunity. I was looking at some pictures I took in class one day and began to think about other alternatives. Of course, Pinterest is the first place I looked. I discovered that it is very easy to find example of creative elementary classrooms, but it proved to be very difficult to find examples of interesting secondary classrooms. But I DID find one room. Here is the link to the article from “The Cult of Pedagogy”, complete with pictures. One look at this, and my new creation quickly formed in my mind.
Just imagine if walls could talk. A curious mind wonders what would the walls at Hillsborough high school have to say? As a former student of this school, I a test to the pride and historic value of this school. The clock tower, auditorium, and the H patio being just three of the many of the monumental marks in this massive school. Hillsborough High School is the unmissable red brick high school building in the historic district of Seminole Heights located in sunny Tampa, FL. This breath taking high school building, with great marks of history that can not be denied, serves as a high school
100% of students in Mrs Hall’s class believe school needs some changes. If all the students in Mrs Hall’s class agree that the school system needs to be changed, changes should be made. Since students have to go to school every weekday, there should be some changes to how school works to make it more interesting for students.
The teacher I observe, Ms. Bandura, at B.V.M Visitation School, plans her classroom activies following a specific schedule. Ms. Bandura discussed her planning for Thursdays, the day I observe her, with me last week during my field experience. She takes the kids on a bathroom break right before snack time every day. She plans a journal entry, a religion lesson, and a cursive lesson before the bathroom break. After bathroom break, the children have snack time which is essentially a 15 minute recesses. After this, she does math and spelling with the children before they go to violin lessons. They go to violin lessons in two groups, for an hour total. While one group is in violin, the other group is reading quietly, reading with a partner, or getting
Inside of the classroom there was a different objective I observed such as three calendars, three tables, a cabinet, 15 pack backs on the shelves and glitter. There were 2 flags, four plants and children sitting and lunch set. There were wood blocks, children pictures, pencil and crayons. There was hand paint, one clock and three rugs. There was three teachers and one with it an apron on.
“A classroom design can improve an individual's performance by 25%” (How Classroom Design Affects Student Learning). Six of ten design guidelines had the most significant encounter on student learning: color, choice, connection, complexity, and light. By rearranging the rows of desks into grouped structures, improves all of the following aspects of learning:Ability to engage in preferred learning methods,
Bulletin boards reside on the north and south walls. Construction paper cut-outs of essential Spanish phrases and pictures are scattered on the board for flair and to produce a vidi image. Encouraging posters inhabit the south side of the wall. All pieces of furnitures are labeled with their Spanish term to help the students learn objects. The atmosphere of the room is energetic and radiant as you can help but feel warm inside. Mrs. Tijerina developed the room to encourage learning while maintain a fun and exciting aura. Students enjoy the layout of the room and find that the layout of the furniture and objects benefit them while learning.
