Two drunken white men raped a young black girl, Tonya Hailey, who was walking from a small store where she bought groceries. When the news reached her father, Carl Lee Hailey, he went to their hearing, where he shot and killed the two men, while also wounding a police officer. Carl Lee hires a white attorney, Jake Brigance, to represent him in court. Many people and organizations, such as the Ku Klux Klan, tried to sabotage Brigance’s likelihood of winning the case. With the help of a liberal law student, Brigance successfully acquitted Carl Lee Hailey for the murders of the two rapists.

On June 07, 2000, Adnan Syed was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his former girlfriend Hae Min Lee. The evidence and statements made during this case changed often and did not prove Syed as guilty. Syed's friend, Jay Wilds, accused Syed of strangling Lee and showing him her body in a Best Buy parking lot. Wilds told the prosecution that he helped Syed bury her body in the Leakin Park woods on January 13, 1999. Many people had evidence that Syed could not have committed this crime; however, many of those people were never contacted or were never asked to testify.

The case of Hae Min Lee was originally only prominent within Baltimore County of Maryland. It has the trappings of a typical high school murder; a teen is angry at their ex-boyfriend/girlfriend for breaking up with them and as a result, would murder them. However, the case has gained international attention largely due to the investigations from Serial, which revealed an abnormal number of inconsistencies within the case against Adnan Syed. Eventually, this attention culminated into the granting of a new trial for Adnan. Adnan is most likely guilty because of circumstantial evidence that demonstrate Adnan’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Jimmy Chin is a professional climber, skier, and North Face athlete; however, he is most widely known for capturing astonishing photographs while working in extremely high-risk environments. After beginning his professional career in 1999, he soon became recognized by National Geographic and was offered to go on a trek across Tibet’s Chang Tang Plateau to photograph the endangered Tibetan antelope. Chin was later a part of the first American team to ski off the summit of Mount Everest in 2006. At the age of 44, Jimmy Chin has been on numerous expeditions and summited countless mountains all across the globe.

Jimmy Chin is a professional mountaineer, climber skier, filmmaker, and most of all photographer. He is known for his ability to capture the craziest of moments, in the most dangerous situations, like few other photographers can. He was born October Twelfth, 1973, and he started his professional career in 1999, and by 2002 he had gotten the job as cinematographer for a national-geographic trek across the Chang Tang Plateau in Tibet. By 2006 he was photographing the first American expedition to ski Everest. In the years since he has gone on to create many more movies including Sundance award winning Meru, and photograph for National Geographic, even getting a few of his photos on the cover of the magazine.

Dr. Chien-Shiung Wu was a Chinese American experimental physicist born on May 31, 1912 in Liu Ho, China. Going up in China, there was a lot of pressure on her for doing well in school and her parents because they were teachers and engineers, they encouraged her to more science and mathematics so they could teach her more. She went to elementary school that her dad founded and when she was old enough, her parents decided to send her to boarding school where she could get a higher education in Suzhou where she graduated top of her class in 1930. Wu later went to the prestigious National Central University of Nanking in 1936, and after graduation, she went to the U.S to continue her graduate studies.

In his family, he have a father, a mother, and an older sister. His sister was the one who got him into art. She taught him how to draw with a how to draw book when he was 5. He was a self taught artist until university. Later on, he taught himself to draw digitally, and paint with watercolor. Today, he is studying am animation degree at BMIT university. He never got a chance to have art classes when he was a child, because his parents never encouraged, or forced him into art. He said that he wish he could have an opportunity to learn art at a young age.

Edgar Lee Masters was born on August 23, 1868 in Garnett, Kansas. His parents were Emma Jershua Masters and Hardin Wallace Masters. He grew up in the western Illinois farmlands of Petersburg and Lewiston, where his grandparents had settled in the 1820s. He went to school in both Petersburg and Lewiston, but graduated from Lewiston High School. He spent a year at a college preparatory school hoping to gain admission to Knox College (Lewis; Primeau). Instead of continuing with college, Lewis claims that Masters, “spent a year in Galesburg writing poetry and reading everything he could get his hands on.” Masters’ father was concerned with his interest in literature and made him return home and work in his law office (Lewis).
