Jimmy Chin is a professional climber, skier, and North Face athlete; however, he is most widely known for capturing astonishing photographs while working in extremely high-risk environments. After beginning his professional career in 1999, he soon became recognized by National Geographic and was offered to go on a trek across Tibet’s Chang Tang Plateau to photograph the endangered Tibetan antelope. Chin was later a part of the first American team to ski off the summit of Mount Everest in 2006. At the age of 44, Jimmy Chin has been on numerous expeditions and summited countless mountains all across the globe.
If given the opportunity, I would love to spend a day with Chin in the mountains of the Grand Tetons or ascending Shark’s Fin in the
Vernon Wayne Howell was born in August 17, 1959 in Houston Texas. His mother was an unwead tennagaer when she had Howell. In his early childhood he claims he was abused by his mother's partner. When he was eighteen he dropped out of high school to pursue a career as a rock star. When he was in his twenties he caused his family to get kicked out of their church, the Seventh Day Advent, because he was questioning the way the leaders interpreted the Seven Seals of the bible. Soon after being kicked out of the church he found the Branch Davidians and joined the religious group. Once in the group he changed his name to David Koresh.
Benjamin Tappan, Jr., an attorney from Connecticut, was the first person to settle in Western Reserve’s Township 3, Range 8, now known as Ravenna, Ohio. His father owned more than 10,000 acres in the southern two thirds of the township. Tappan Jr. moved there in June 1799, traveling part of the way with David Hudson, who was on his way to settle the nearby township bearing his name. With his father’s power of attorney, Tappan Jr. divided the land into 66 lots of about 160 acres each to be sold to settlers. He selected a site in the center of his land for the town.
Ntozake Shange was born Paulette Williams into an upper white collar class African-American family. Her dad was an Air Force specialist and her mom a psychiatric social worker. Social icons like Dizzie Gillespie, Miles Davis and W.E.B. Dubois were consistent visitors in the Williams home. Shange went to Barnard College and UCLA, gaining both a bachelors and master degree in American Studies. Shange's school years were troublesome, on the other hand, and disappointed and hurt in the wake of isolating from her first husband, she attempted suicide a few times before centering her anger against the constraints society forces on dark ladies. While procuring a graduate degree, she reaffirmed her own quality taking into account a self-decided character
Started out as a failing student with no burning desire to do any prodigious. Jasper, just like all the others, did not want to go through the trouble to lucubrate and improve himself. Until three years ago, in 2013 when he moved in with his uncle, Rick Lien, who was able to turn him from a scanty student to a straight A student over the course of two months changed his life forever. This alone was a huge improvement for Jasper, but that was not all. Rick taught Jasper about stocks and options to help him be more independent, although at first, Jasper showed no interest in the subject matter, but through personal experience after Jasper made his first successful trade, he
There are many mysterious and unknowns in the death of Hae Min Lee. There are many different people who could be looked at as a suspect. However the jury decided that one kid by the name of Adnan Syed, the ex boyfriend of Hae, was responsible for her death. I am going to explain why I think the Jury was incorrect, and did not have enough evidence to convict Adnan for the death of Hae Min Lee.
Bulimba's Oxford Street is everything that Darlinghurst's isn't. You're more likely to encounter a baby stroller and weak coffee than a severe brain injury and cheap amphetamines.
In sunny California one thing you do not expect to see is cold gloomy weather, yet for about four consecutive days Chino Hills saw enough rain to make the dry hills of Chino Hills green again. Chino Hills faced harsh rainstorms with even some random appearances of hail. How did this effect school? Students still had to go to class and continue their daily schedule, but places like the parking lot saw severe flooding. Many cars looked like boats or submarines, as they were more than wheel deep in rainwater. Roads also faced the harshness of the rain as they were damaged with potholes and cracks that seemed to grow every rainy day. Traffic became heavier and would sometimes seem to take twice as long to get to a destination. However, this rain
During my lifetime I encountered many amazing people. One man who I admire most is my friend, Billy Selingo. Billy is twenty-seven years old and currently attending Manhattanville College to receive his master’s degree. Billy always been a very talented hockey player, as a freshman he began at the Holderness School then attended a post grad year at the Selects Academy at South Kent, which totals five years at the competitive prep school level. Next up for him was a scholarship to continue his hockey career at Manhattanville College, where the team competed at the division three hockey level. Billy had more skill than most of the team, he thought by playing at the division three level he would receive more playing time than he was actually getting. Halfway through the season he grew very upset, this
On a breezy spring day in 1868 in Childersburg, Alabama, James Ford sat in on the steps of the New Baptist Church meditating on how he is going to support his wife, Mabel, and his daughter, Dixie. He wasn’t sure how to survive in this place since his rights as a citizen were being withheld from him, even though he was no longer a slave after the 13th amendment abolished it. He was a freed man after that piece of legislation passed. Although in the eyes of the white southern men, he was still viewed the same whether he was in shackles or not. As James pondered about the various ways to become treated like a real citizen, the people of the Freedmen’s Bureau begin to ascend the steps carrying crates full
Do you know about the sculpture in front of the CIA that has baffled cryptologists for over 20 years? Do you know who was the first to solve it? Do you know who made it and the other sculptures he has made? If not, and you want to know then you’ve come to to the right place!
When I move into my dorm for my first year of college, there is no question of which quote I would put onto my wall. Jimmy Dean, one of my favorite old school country singers, once said "I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination." This quote has really stuck with me. It reminds me that life will not always go my way and it is imperative that I learn to do deal with whatever the world may throw at me.
“A TRUE HERO IS NOT MEASURED BY THE SIZE OF HIS STRENGTH, BUT BY THE STRENGTH OF HIS HEART.” - Hercules. Ho Feng Shan demonstrates the traits of a hero because he was known as a very kind-hearted man; Ho was very humble and had many great achievements in his lifetime. Ho has achieved many things, but what makes him a hero?

It can be an interesting fact for Non-Chinese speakers or even for the Chinese themselves, as I believe and as it seems. Almost all of us think that Sun’s last name is Tzu, but the truth it is not. Sun’s real name is Sun Wu and Tzu is just an honorific particle name that was given to him, as it is believed that he deserves it and I personally believe that too. Tzu in Chinese means “Master” and someone who is a extremely appreciated, respected, accomplished and skillful person in any field that would usually be given as a title to them after their death. I believe that Sun Tzu really deserves this title, and let us say that if there is an election for “The book of the semester”, I will definitely choose his book The Art of War, between the 7
