After 2 years of dedicated training, Guo Sheng Tee has managed to be one of few selected weightlifters to represent Australia. Guo Yuan Tee shares Guo Sheng’s experience.
Guo Sheng squats down and clutches the coarse and bumpy bar as sweat trickles down his forehead. He pivots his feet outwards, straightens his posture and thrust his chest outwards. He takes a few deep breaths, and finally he lifts with tremendous power. The 80kg weight is now at his shoulders. Guo Sheng stops as the cumbersome weight rests on his shoulders, and he prepares his final stance of the Clean and Jerk.
Guo Sheng was one of the few weightlifters chosen to be a participant of the Under 18 Australian Weightlifting Federation.
Before Guo Sheng began his extraordinary journey in his Weightlifting career, he participated in swimming at the Marlin Coast. However, swimming was much to his distain as his parents insisted on swimming. As a result, and few years later, he persuaded his parents for him to discontinue swimming. Subsequently, Guo Sheng began to explore other alternatives for his hobby. That’s when he discovered Weightlifting.

Ed Coan is arguably the greatest powerlifter of all time. He holds the world record deadlift in 4 weight classes and has a career high 901 pound deadlift. He has lifted more weight than almost every man alive and squatted 1,003 pounds at one point. Ed won his first title in 1983 and did not lose for 16 consecutive years. He has won with margins of 200-500 pounds, which is unheard of during that time period and even today. Mark Gallagher said “When he shattered the 2400-pound barrier, the second best 220-pound powerlifting total was 2102. Coan, mathematically, was 14.5% better than the next best powerlifter in the world” ( Joe Skopec Powerlifting). Ed Coan is almost a superhuman to the sport. He will always be the greatest ever.
One of the many reasons Rich Froning is considered to be a great American is because of his career as an athlete in CrossFit. Froning tried CrossFit for fun in 2009, in his garage (Froning 34). He just tried something new, without knowing how far it would take him. A simple suggestion from a friend would soon become a key presence in his life. In 2010, Froning entered in a competition, to see how he compared to the other CrossFitters (Froning 51). He did surprisingly well at the competition. Everyone there was dumbfounded by his performance. Suddenly, a new athlete had emerged and had a very noteworthy competition. All of the days in his garage earned Froning the title, “Fittest Man on Earth” four consecutive years (Schlinger). Earning that

In any sport, many things are needed to achieve. The sport that asks a person to literally go beyond what they can do is powerlifting. To do this, a person has to know the sport called powerlifting. He or she must learn to adapt a new way of physical and mental training, breathing, and way of life. Since the first professional competition in 1964, powerlifting has shown great feats of strength, power, legends and dreams that have changed, "How strong are you," actually implies (Hatfield 5).
Almost a month ago, my boyfriend and I paid a visit to the Dalton Little Theatre in Dalton, Georgia for the first time. The company had performed Mama Don’t Fly, which was a comedy, and we were fairly impressed with the production. I receive emails regularly now from Dalton Little Theatre and I was notified that they were putting on a rendition of Robert Lois Stephenson’s The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I was still buzzing from the delightful performance the cast had given during the last show that I decided to return and see what they could do with a more somber toned show. Everything at the theatre appeared to be the same as the initial visit and I also sat in the same seats. Nonetheless, my expectations were quickly exceeded by the skilled cast.
Early in childhood Jing Mei dreamed of finding her prodigy and being a famous Chinese American, mostly because of the views and actions her mother placed on her. Her mother believed you could be anything you wanted to be in America. (pg 405) Her mother was always pushing new tests and talents on Jing Mei. She even went as far as having her daughter Jing Mei models her physical appearance and actions after a child-star Shirley Temple. Her other was always testing her with many different things trying to discover Jing Mei’s talent. Later Jing Mei started to feel like her mother was just trying to make her into someone she was not and started to just fail and not try to do anything right hoping her mother would give up. When her mother died she had realized what her mother had been trying to do. Her mother had only wanted her to do her best. She had then to realize what her mother had
Starting in the early 1900’s, the Olympics took the world by storm. It soon became the greatest test of athleticism and strength. One of the centerpieces of the Olympics, that is a true testament of athleticism and strength, is weightlifting. Not only does it measure strength but it also measures skill and brute force. Out of all the countries competing, China stands above all its competitors. The greatest Olympic weightlifters reside in China. Lü Xiaojun, an example of Chinese weightlifting domination, is a three-time world champion and the current Olympic and world holder of the snatch in the 77-kilogram weight class. Now, one might ask, how do the Chinese continue to prevail against all competitors in weightlifting? The answer is simple. The five philosophies of Chinese Olympic weightlifting.
People can often change their minds to do anything if correctly persuaded. Similarly to this great writers can get the readers to not only to go deeper than just following along with the story. One example of this is The Great Gatsby, it is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald about the American Dream and true happiness. Fitzgerald is a very convincing writer and uses many tactics to convey what he is truly trying to say. He uses three important symbols in The Great Gatsby to effectively work to enhance the true meanings of the plot and characters.
“The communist influence was fading fast.” (P.275) He was surprised by the fact in that little time he spent in the US had a bigger influence on him compared than what China had ever had. “I was wavering after only six weeks there” (P.253). Going to the US also changed the way he thought about ballet and he even danced differently, in a more expressive way. This change was a huge motivation for him. He got the freedom he wanted in the US, “I so desperately wanted a freedom of expression and thought which I couldn’t have in China, and to conquer the ballet world.” (P.275) Going to the United States changed the way he danced it wasn’t just for China anymore it was also for himself. When he came back to China from the US, he wanted to go back and to experience that freedom again, and he was very determined
There is one place where I go to when I have any problems. Stress leaves my body when I’m here. It’s also a place where I can go to make myself stronger, faster and better at sports. It allows me to get stronger and live a healthy lifestyle. This wonderful place of meeting my goals is the weight room.
Becoming a state qualifier was my only focus, and therefore I worked as hard as I could whether it was on or off the mat. An interest meeting over the summer allowed my coach to put me in the weight lifting class that lasted before, and after the season. Lifting five days a week was something I took full advantage of, furthermore, my strength and weight were never a problem. During practices, I never got water, and during the water breaks, I would work on my shooting and sprawling. Throughout the first day of weight lifting to the last day of the season, my desire to become a state qualifier kept my life in motion.
The chariot rider had to develop strong arms in order to control the reins of his horse drawn cart. How did he get them? Exercise of course! It may not have been the exercise that we know today, but, none the less, it began with repetitive motions of muscles used in everyday work. Remember they did not have our modern day machines to build those great coliseums.

Medical marijuana has become an extreme controversy for many different countries around the world. According to the National Conference of State Legislation, twenty nine states in the United States have legalized medical marijuana, (State) along with select countries around the world. Different regions of the world have varying views and laws for medical cannabis. Medical marijuana can drastically improve the quality of ill people’s lives, and ease pain that otherwise make daily life miserable. According to two well known professors at University of Salerno, cannabis has been used to relieve chronic pain, muscular cramps and neurological or spinal pains (Bifulco and Pisanti). Although medical marijuana’s purpose would be to alleviate pain, some are concerned that it could be a gateway drug, which means it could potentially lead people to become addicted to stronger substances.
