Chicago murder rate continue to increase even with the gun laws implemented throughout the city. One interesting fact is that there is not one single gun shop located within the city of Chicago. How can a city who basically has a ban on guns still have one of the highest gun rates? I grew up in the Englewood neighborhood located in Chicago, and the gun violence was at an all-time high during my younger years. Illinois has a higher crime rate than New York. That’s interesting knowing that the gun laws in Illinois should limit this crime rate. Gun laws in Illinois are helping crime rates increase because other states are less crime ridden, Illinois gun laws are tough, and other states are benefiting from easy gun laws.

What if an individual could acquire a gun like you buy a pair of shoes whatever size or color you want? Could you imagine what it would be like? The mere thought of every person in the city walking around with guns is frightening. That will be the United States if Congress does not put stricter policies in place to control the situation. When looking at the news, or reading the paper or even surfing the web you will see overwhelming statistics. According to the USA Gun Violence Statistics, More than 30,000 people are killed by firearms each year in this country and More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day, 1/2 of them are between the ages of 18 and 35 and 1/3 of them are under the age of 20. Gun violence has caused terror and fear across the country due to the attacks on innocent people like Sandy Hook Elementary, where a 20 year old killed 20 children and 6 adults, a Shooting Frenzy at Fort Hood in 2009, or the movie goer who was shot and killed for texting in the movie theater, and Jordan Davis who was shot while in his car at a gas station in Jacksonville Florida, and we will never forget the massacres at Columbine and Virginia Tech. How many more people will have to die or become injured in these senseless acts of violence before changes are made to this problematic situation? Gun violence is a major problem in Chicago. There has been an estimate of nearly six hundred shooting victims in a matter of three months into the New Year. It is very sad how so many innocent people lose their lives due to such violence. Even the safest neighborhoods have become dangerous because of ignorant gang members who settle their problems with rival gangs by shooting each other. It is hard to feel safe in a community where you fear being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Today in America we face many controversial problems. With strict gun control, Americans cannot feel safe, and to some the thought of not being able to use a firearm in self-defense is very frightening. We Americans should never have to be in fear of not being able to protect ourselves, especially in the comfort of our own home. How are strict gun control laws and regulations going to reach the estimated 65 million gun owners that own approximately 240 million firearms (Just Facts Gun Control)? The answer is simple, they can’t. There must be an end to gun control, its problems significantly outweigh any good intentions it has, and besides there is no doubt about it, America is a safer place when the citizens are able to own firearms.

Guns have been used for homicide and suicide at a disappointingly high rate over the years. Each life lost is a life that matters. Do we really want to let our children grow up in a world where everyone has extremely simple access to purchase firearms that could harm you? Americans love guns, we love our second amendment rights and we strongly oppose those who try and take them away. Guns provide significant help for individual protection, but we need to stop handing them out guns like there is a war. The second amendment was implemented when we were still worried about the British taking us over, that is why Americans were allowed to have a gun, in case we need to call up the militia, but those days are over. Horrendous policies and politicians looking out for themselves, taking donation from weapons companies has lead to America having an extremely high gun crime rate. American’s have an abundance of gun related issues due to inadequate restrictions, insufficient political support, and the media’s influence. A change needs to be made in the form of restrictions, and new policies to better our society.

Gun violence in the United States is higher than ever, and criminals with guns will “…kill as many as 1000 people each day” (Alpers&Wilson). Taking this into perspective, it is only right to fight fire with fire or, in this case, use a gun to protect yourself and those around you. Gun control does not only decrease the ability for protection, it also decreases our rights as U.S citizens. The constitution clearly states that we are given the right to bear arms, meaning we may carry fire arms. Even if we have stricter laws for guns, it will not stop killers from shooting innocent people. These men and women causing damage to the lives of numerous individuals do not care if there is a law banning guns, because all they truly want to do is

More than 32,000 people die each year in the United States alone due to gun related violence. These people are robbed of their future because of the carelessness of others, or even themselves. Their family and friends are no longer able to see them. All of this, because of one pull of a trigger. Many people die from gun violence each year. In order to prevent these unnecessary deaths, there should be stricter gun laws to prevent the severe loss of life, suicide, and school shootings.

Americans have been facing a major crisis for a while, guns. Gun- related crimes have been plaguing America, especially most major cities. Chicago has the highest murder rate in America, but Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in America. The reason that so many people are getting killed in Chicago is because the law abiding citizens who would acquire guns for protection, have a hard time acquiring guns due to Chicago's laws, but the people who want to use guns for crimes are willing to go to extreme heights to get a gun. Guns will continue to be an issue in America if our current gun laws are not changed.

In Chicago Illinois strict gun laws prevent people from easily obtaining a firearm. However Chicago sees some of the most violent gang violence in the entire country. At the end of 2016 there had been 762 homicides in the chicago area. It’s obvious that these strict gun laws are not working. Gangs are still finding was to obtain firearms and continue to murder. Across the United States there have been many shootings and attacks. The most recent being in San Bernardino California where 14 innocent lives were taken. Most of these shootings are in schools, state buildings, movie theatres etc. Every public mass shooting in the USA since 1950 has taken place where citizens are banned from carrying guns. There are ways to end these people going on killing sprees once and for all. Many law abiding citizens are experienced and comfortable with a firearm. Imagine these people being able to take their concealed weapons into places that are now “no gun zones”. This would act as a deterrent against the people who go on killing sprees.
