Greek Architectural System

Did you know that the people who built many of the Egyptian monuments we know today (also know as slaves) suffered while making creating the monuments.Well in ancient Egypt, slaves created the monuments that there still is and many of them were killed in the process of building them. Great achievements are not worth great injustices because slaves died, they had terrible lives and they couldn’t enjoy what they had made.

Just before you go to sleep, you image yourself taking a ride to the White House. You then notice it's beautiful columns. As you look through columns, this type of architecture is ancient Greek. There are other place to find these Greek columns. Besides architecture, other developments from ancient civilizations have an impact on our world today, such as roads and Gregorian calendar.

The time of the Ancient Greeks is one of the most, if not the most, influential periods since the dawn of existence. The Ancient Greeks contributed to many of the modern world concepts that are used in everyday life. The importance of the Ancient Greeks is shown, in some way, scattered through each and every day. One contribution to the Western civilization from the Ancient Greeks is architecture.

1. The Greeks had similarities and differences compared to traditional American’s and our culture. Similar to Americans, Greeks were a very entertainment based culture. They had plays, music, and texts to pass their free time, all of which most Americans typically experience in a day. Cities and towns existed, with city-states serving almost like today’s capitals of each state. Farming played a big part in their culture, which is shared with America, as farming continues to be a trade that is necessary, no matter what age. A military existed to protect their society, like America has. Greek architecture was and still is a significant part of history today. It has affected many countries counting the U.S. A good example of how Greek Architecture affects the U.S is the many historical sites found in the capital of the U.S, such as the Lincoln memorial, which has obvious Greek elements including how it is partially constructed through marble and has many columns. Because of the way Greek Architecture was and still is, it has helped establish the present day society that America has and is today.

Both the Greeks and the Romans made a number of contributions to western culture in the field of architecture, many of which can still be seen to this very day. Architecture played a pivotal role in both the religion and daily life of ancient Greek society. The Greeks produced some of the world’s most enduring architectural monuments, many of which are still standing today. These include the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, and the Temple of Poseidon. Perhaps one of the largest contributions of the ancient Greeks to western civilization in regards to architecture was their development of the three fundamental architectural systems of design, the Doric, Iconic, and Corinthian orders. Ancient Greece was a polytheistic society with a varied life reflecting their beliefs, culture, and society and differed greatly from that of the modern world. They believed very strongly in Olympian Gods and had many worship habits. Those two things are what mostly made Ancient Greece.

Society was made up of free people and slaves. Slaves were used for servants and labor, they had no rights. Almost none got paid. There were 2 types of free people, citizens and metrics. A citizen is born to Greek parents, a metric pays taxes and serves to army but can never become a full citizen. The government power in Greece is called an oligarchy. This is put into place when a democratic systems began to fail. The Greece government is known for setting up a government to allow people to vote.
