Graphic Design Personal Statement

Designers may develop their skills by completing courses at TAFE or university in design and / or manufacture. Other designers are self-taught and gain their skills through on-the-job training. Depending on the size of the company, designers may work alone or collaborate as a member of a team working towards a common design goal. To be successful, all designers must have an understanding of the market place in order to ensure their final products meet a consumer need or want.

Design has become one of my greatest passions in my life, one that I never grow tired of and constantly wish to improve upon. This is why I chose to become a graphic design major, so that I could constantly interact and learn about design even once I enter the career force. Design is a puzzle that when solved correctly can reach people like words could never do. I have known that I would enter a creative field since a child, though it wasn’t till recent years that my love of graphic design truly blossomed.

I want to be a part of Arts 360 because I believe this will allow me to greater understand, and expand my understandings and opportunities in the art field. I find my love of art to continually grow as I experience and learn more about various aspects of the field. I want to grow in my understandings of arts administration. I would like the exposure to see the various jobs and tasks that are within arts related fields. I really want the opportunity to network with people from diverse artists and creators. Graphic designers not only work with images, but also text. Combining text and images can portray complex ideas in a simple manor. A big part of marketing and selling products is the graphic designer. They make the logos, the slogan, brochures, etc. that can attract new customers and make them come back.

In today’s world, marketers and advertisers are fighting for every spot they get to display their ads and market their products. The ultimate aim is to get as much exposure as possible. This in turn, they hope, will translate into sales. The literature “Ways of Seeing – Part 7” underlines the theory of publicity. I chose this literature because it elucidates the backbone of marketing and advertising – publicity. It interests me because designers and advertisers revolve their careers around for many years in order to obtain ‘Publicity’.

Learning the fundamentals of Digital Media is essential to laying a solid foundation to allow for a sturdy backing in digital design. Digital design theories, practices, and technologies can provide designers a stable of skills to build core competencies and over time wisdom. Mastering digital design fundamentals will provide opportunity for career growth. Depending on the industry, an entry-level designer can rise from senior designer, to art director, and then creative director. As digital media continues to mature, categorical design disciplines will continue to evolve, shape, and style the visual culture. From magazines to web pages, the spectrum of visual design will continue to move people everywhere on an emotional level.

During the past years, graphic design has been changing all over the world, especially regarding the use of certain techniques of designing. Traditional principles and techniques of design allow designers to be more creative, but more and more designers are using computers. So, is new technology good or bad? It may seem strange to consider the different aspects of graphic design because most people only know the technological side. Though most people think graphic design is more about the digital media, it is actually a complicated process that requires creativity that computers cannot supply.

Pursing a career as a medical doctor is an opportunity for me to mentor youth in underserved populations. As a child, I was raised in the low income, urban community of Roxbury, MA. Although not as notorious today, the neighborhood had garnered negative attention for its high crime rates. My mother emigrated from Haiti and raised me as a single parent. Due to our financial circumstance, Roxbury became our permanent residence. I have always felt there was something lacking in Roxbury in comparison to other towns I visited. My teenage years were largely spent in the suburban town of Stoneham where I attended high school. There was a literal difference in air quality and a psychology contrast in future prospects. This is why graphic designers have such demanding jobs, because if they don 't get a project done by the deadline, either money will be deducted from their pay or they can get replaced.
