Grand Canyon University is a private Christian association founded in Prescott, Arizona by the Southern Baptist Church in 1949. With six different locations, Grand Canyon University is found predominantly throughout Arizona and with one location in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The main campus was specifically situated in Central Phoenix, Arizona in 1951 with the surrounding of an urban community that is still intact today. In addition, the university was able to establish itself as an interdenominational Christian institution. As a Christian school, not only does Grand Canyon University help students find their purpose in life, but they also encourage students to find their purpose in Christ. Incoming freshmen are required to submit an official high school transcript with an unweighted grade point average of 3.0 or above. If students are unable to meet a grade point average of 3.0 or above, they can still be eligible for admission if they acquire certain scores on the college entrance exams required by GCU. Students are eligible if they meet a score of 19 on the ACT and a score of 920 on the SAT that includes reading and math only. At GCU, there are ten different degree programs with a total of 61 majors to choose from. The strongest programs in which a variety of students go into are Registered Nursing/Registered Nurse, Business Administration and Management, and Elementary Education and Teaching. Many opportunities such as the opportunity to graduate in three years are offered by the institution. This opportunity referred to as the “3+1 Program” is for students who wish to align their undergraduate and graduate studies earlier in their college career that can save them money and time. The program allows students to earn their bachelor’s degree in three years and their master’s degree in one year. In addition to a great opportunity, students who get enrolled into the program are eligible for an institutional scholarship contingency. Grand Canyon University is known as a premier, private, accredited, and nondenominational Christian university. Furthermore, the University is known for its offers of online and campus-based Bachelors and Masters degree programs. GCU can also be recognized by its important scientific and athletic alumni; Dr. Stephen Hall and Horacio Llamas Grey.
