Ramona Salvarez:
How is your role in government different from an elected official?
1. My role in government is to overlook cases and evaluate evidence. I make sure that the facts giving are accurate and that everything is presented fairly and unbiased. Judges serve the people while we are appointed by the president rather than the people.
I see the differences that you present, but what about their similarities, what makes them alike (judges and elected officials)?
2. There are many things that make us the alike. We serve for the same purpose, to help the people.
Do you think judges should be elected or appointed by the government and president?
3. I do not think judges should be elected, simply because when people vote they tend to vote
Ramona Salvarez: I do believe that judges should be elected. Most people are not designed to be judges, it's not their cup of tea. That's why I think it's best for someone to know what they're doing and can actually
I completely agree with what you are saying I think that we do need to be able to vote for a judge as we do with an official. Do you think you could explain to some of our readers what judicial review is?
The central government is normally located in the capital city; which in our case it’s London. The central government runs the whole country by taking up the most important responsibilities that any other government levels in the UK has. These responsibilities are making new laws, signing agreements with the other nations and also defending the nation. The central government has these responsibilities as it’s the main government within the UK and it contains the 3 political institutions which make up parliament which are: the House of Commons, and the House of Lords and the monarch. These institutions work together. The house of commons creates new laws which they feel will work well for the British community. The house of lords has a
With this information that highlights the key responsibilities of a judge, we can better understand that the judge is enforcing the law much like a police officer does so within the community. A Judges enforce the law with a courtroom in order for justice to take place. For example, in the Sterling case Superior Court Judge Michael Levanas heard both sides of the oral arguments presented. His ruling on the case wasn’t based on personal feelings. It was based on facts, enthralling oral arguments, and his understanding of the law.
Many senators have asked me about my judicial philosophy numerous times in the past few weeks. My response is that the judicial role is one in which judges and justices must apply the law, and not make it. Judges and justices have a limited role and these members of the judicial branch should have humility, recognition that we operate within a system of precedent, and be as open as possible in the decisional process with colleagues who are striving to ensure fairness and equality in the constitutional rights for the individuals in America.
If you think that this is an odd way to elect our judges, you are not alone. Even the former chief justice of the Texas Supreme Court, Wallace Jefferson is a misguided way to elect our judges. (Horwitz). One major drawback for this is with the people who vote in the election, more often time than not do not have adequate information to give a well-informed vote. Most of the time, if people do not have a lot information about all the candidates on the ballot, then they nearly every time vote for the name they know which is the name running for re-election. For the voters who do this they might possibly be jeopardizing a better person qualified for the position, but they do not realize this because of the lack of information that they have access
1. What do you think is the most important similarity and which is the most important difference? Use specifics to support your answer.
The judicial branch of U.S. government is comprised of the court system; their task is to resolve legal issues and interpret the law.
A crucial argument left unanswered is if state judges should be appointed or elected? Conflicting views raise many questions about how things would change in the court system. According to the article Justice at Stake, “One of the hottest debates in judicial politics today is whether judges should be chosen through competitive election or appointments. Each side has pros and cons”. Many states elect their judges through a merit selection process or appoint them through a process called the partisan election. Texas judges use partisan election where judges are elected by the people. Another question that arises is if Texas should continue using the partisan election to elect their judges when it may seem untrustworthy. A decision could be discussed on the process in electing state judges such as on the topics of improvements, conflictions, and which process seems more reasonable. Improvements can be made to the process of electing state judges… Overall, the appointment of judges varies by state, but looking at Texas’ past and present justice system will determine whether Texas should continue to elect, or switch over to appoint.
Lady Macbeth’s Role in The Tragedy of Macbeth The world famous Shakespearian tragedy known as Macbeth, arguably one of the most pivotal and important characters was Lady Macbeth, as not only was she the Thane’s wife, but she was the conductor of the symphony of chaos, sadness, and betrayal during the Scottish wars or a catalyst of the combination of supernatural factors and power hungry motives that led to the unfolding reactions that went down following the king's unlawful murder. Lady Macbeth was involved in manipulating Macbeth to do things for their mutual and personal gain. One of the important events Lady Macbeth contributed to was the planning and convincing of the murdering of King Duncan with Macbeth. There are many ways she did this. One of the ways was how she talked to Macbeth.
There ideas were very similar such as the belief of unalienable rights. That the people have these rights which are life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. This is what Thomas Jefferson said
Judicial power is given to the Supreme Court. All nine federal judges are appointed by the President and serve "during good behavior," usually meaning for life. The judges cannot be removed from office except for criminal behavior or malfeasance. This makes them less vulnerable to political pressure and outside influence. The main feature of the independent role for the courts lies in their power to interpret the Constitution. They review the "constitutionality" of laws and executive orders. There are
The case centers on actual events that occurred in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of New Orleans from 2001 to 2009. In 2008, the archdiocese announced that it had lost more than $100 million as a result of Hurricane Katrina — because insurance failed to cover all its property losses. Those losses had no bearing on the parish a closure, the church says. Not all the faithful are convinced. Later released prospectus indicated that the Archdiocese paid over $10 million directly from its own assets to settle claims of sexual abuse, and these payments were not part of financial statement or notes. Due to unauthorized expenditure parishioners and media questioned about Good Counsel’s. Good Counsel’s parishioners were very disappointed because they heard news about its closing. They didn’t accept clarification that is provided by archdiocese. They felt that Good Counsel’s was solvent so they wanted to close it for finance repairs.
I am applying to the Korean Ancestry Grant on the basis that it is a fantastic opportunity that could potentially support my goal towards striving higher education. In matters on why this scholarship applies with me, I have Korean ancestors/relatives on the fact that I was born in Seoul, South Korea and lived there for around 3 to 4 years. We moved to the United States for my father’s new job, but we are generally able to keep in touch with our relatives with the advances in technology, specifically, a phone specifically meant for South Korea as well as using face-time apps that were also available. Not only that, but we do get to revisit Korea from time to time, especially during summer vacation when the time works best for us. I will admit, that every time we go back, I expect to feel out of place and walk in the streets as a tourist rather than someone who lived there, and there are always time where I wonder what life would be like if my family stayed in Korea rather than leave for the life we have now. It is always interesting to look back
The role of a government in creating order in society is to establish a set of laws to protect the people, their property, and their rights;
