GOING PAPERLESS 2 Abstract As the economy weakens, Americans begin to find ways to save money. One of the latest trends in saving money is considered “the paperless office”. This new paperless office method is a concept that is now considered “Green”, also known as environmentally friendly. These “Green” approaches are engineered to help save money and save the environment. A paperless office does not completely eliminate paper in a work environment, but rather uses a minimal use of paper taking on a smarter approach by converting all documentation into a technological form. Reducing the use of paper in a work place improves efficiency, saves money, time and space. GOING PAPERLESS …show more content…
The destruction of forests can be extremely detrimental to plant life and animal habitats. The acceleration of global warming is one byproduct of eliminating forestry. The production of paper can also lead to adverse effects in our water supply. Large amounts of water are used in paper production, which leads to the lowering of water levels that threaten the fish population. Gases (such as those formed by Greenhouses) are emitted into the atmosphere everyday due to the huge consumption of oil and electricity. A poisonous chemical, such as chlorine, used in the bleaching process is added to help whiten paper and is released into our environment (e.g., Hoekstra et al., 2010. p.247). GOING PAPERLESS 5 The environmental benefits would be significant if companies switched to a paperless office. “Each year the switch would: Save 16.5 million trees (2.3 million tons of wood). Decrease emission of greenhouse gasses by 3.9 billion pounds, the equivalent of taking 355,000 cars off the road and reduce fuel consumption by 26 million BTUs, enough energy to provide residential power to San Francisco for a year” (e.g., Abbott, K. 2008). Saving money and the environment provides emphasis on health in general. Ultimately, ‘Healthy’ provides our species as well as the species all around us, with positive stress free futures. Learning by association is one of the most powerful tools in our lives,
The world is being polluted, and it has hurt and damaged the environment. People seem to not care about the turtles and the seas and the environment is slowly downgrading because of people. The piles of recycled materials all over the sea floor where animals eat and where they can get hurt. The adaptation of animals being ruined because of trash, destroying their homes in the sea or in the forests. Forests burned down because of our silly mistakes.
It is better for the environment. We don't have to waste as many trees as we do for paper. The production of paper would stop and we wouldn't need to kill trees. It also doesn’t put smoke in the air.
With the advent of the computerized office in the 1980s we were assured the paperless world was right around the corner. Over thirty years later we are facing
And, those trees, those forests, that are being ravaged in order to become worthless extra paper lying around the office, decreases the CO[subscript]2, which is a greenhouse gas.
Although updating your copier machines may seem expensive at the start, you stand to save money in the long run. Konica Minolta copier machines lead the industry when it comes to environmentally friendly devices. There are lots of ways that Konica Minolta helps reduce environmental impact, including reducing toner consumption, recycling toner cartridges, and using less energy. Not only does this help save the planet, it also helps save you a lot of money on consumables over time. Plus, new copier machines are more reliable, meaning you’ll reduce the cost of lost productivity due to breakdowns, malfunctions, or inefficient printing. To help make the initial investment in new copier machines feel like more of a gift than a curse, you can also look into options for leasing or for purchasing pre-owned devices.
When it comes to nature, trees, rivers, the sky, air pollution also affect the environment. Air pollution can harm the ecosystem. “Nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide cause eutrophication and acidification of lakes and streams, damaging ecosystems” (Melamed et al, 2016). This can harm the environment and contribute to the human health problems. We drink water, and water plants with water. Even more particulate matter interact with cloud formation processes and may impact the amount and location of precipitation (Melamed et al, 2016). This is the reason of flooding and water problems.
If you simply scan and discard all of your incoming paper, you really haven’t changed anything environmentally. To help save on paper, you have to use processes that reduce the amount of paper consumed—not just how much you store”(1). If a school tries to go paperless, they must do everything on the computer and not scan things in; otherwise, going paperless is pointless. Also, when going paperless a person should think about the fact that he or she is creating less jobs. Due to the fact that the school would no longer be using paper, there wouldn't be a demand for the paper.
You could have copier and printer paper, speciality paper, coloured paper, computer paper, paper rolls, index paper (these could be laminated). We must be aware of the impact of wasting paper as this will not only protect the environment, it will also save money. The businesses has to ensure that the paper they buy is used in the most appropriate way, reducing wasteful consumption and that they use the same paper in sort of different
Unfortunately, these pollutants can be carried in the atmosphere by weather systems. Thus, they can travel for hundreds of miles causing damage as they go. Acid deposits in the soil can have devastating affects in the forest. It gradually causes the loss of plant nutrients, calcium and magnesium. This leads to dying off of trees in the forest. Also, acid deposits in lakes and streams have led to a drop in fish production. Mercury is another source of pollution which can be harmful to humans and wildlife. It comes from the emissions of coal-burning power plants and is deposited into the air and water. This chemical damages the nervous system, and has a detrimental affect on reproduction and prenatal development.
The population on Earth is expanding rapidly which goes hand in hand in the degradation of the environment at large measures. The human’s appetites for needs are disarranging the environments natural equilibrium. Our production industries are venting smoke and discharging chemicals that are polluting our water. The smoke that is emitted into the atmosphere holds unappealing gases such as carbon monoxide and sulfur dioxide. The high
Another form of industrial waste that contributes to water pollution is acid rain. Acid rain is a product of industries burning coal. The burning of coal produces sulfur oxide and nitrogen oxide, and when these chemicals combine with the earth’s atmosphere it forms acid rain The Northeastern part of the United States has the worst acid rain levels in the world. More specific, the states with the highest concentration are Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and some boarding parts of Canada and New England area. The falling acid rain can destroy plants and animals in several different ways. The acidification of a lake, river, or stream because of the high acidic levels in the water kills algae. Since algae are the main source of food, for many species of fish, they will also suffer from the high acid levels.
Sub-point A: With plastic being everywhere, everytime it gets thrown away or washed down, the toxic pollutants enter the environment and do harm. Trash dumps and landfills are also major problems as they allow pollutants to affect the land and water. It sends chemicals everywhere to harm the environment. The landfills are taking too much space and releases greenhouse gas, methane. It is 25 more times potent than carbon dioxide.
Pollution is another major factor that is threatening our world today. One example of pollution is nitrogen. Humans are adding about 130 to 150 million tons over the 90 to 150 tons that are produced by the nitrogen cycle. This excess in nitrogen causes coastal waters and estuaries to grow toxic algae, killing the fish and trapping the solar heat in the air. Another example of pollution is methane. Methane is produced by gases released by cows, termite mounds or by the bottom of rice paddy. If found in the air methane is very poisonous. By raising more cattle, cutting more tropical forests, thus increasing the amount of termites, and by growing more rice, the methane concentration in the air is almost twice as higher as it was 160,000 years ago. Smoke is another pollution factor. Smoke that is produced by cars contains carbon dioxide (CO2). This carbon dioxide in the air causes global warming, which results in the green house effect and climate changes. Satellite studies show that perhaps we will increase the temperature by 3.6 degrees by the year 2001. The warmer the weather the more water it can hold, the higher the precipitation will be. The higher the precipitation the more clouds, the more rain, and the more snow there will be. This will result in more storms and floods. Studies by Thomas Karl of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration showed that the total winter precipitation in the US has increased to about 10% since
Water pollution has had devastating effects on the environment, which include irreversible effects to the ocean's ecosystem, health problems and abnormal conditions.
Water pollution affects plants and organisms living in these bodies of water; and, in almost all cases the effect is damaging not only to individual species and populations, but also to the natural biological communities.
