Global warming has been an increasing problem throughout the world. Over the years people have worried about the situation and tried to come up with ways to solve the situation. What exactly is global warming, and how could we stop it? The trapping of infrared radiation within the atmosphere. Sounds bad right? Actually this is what keeps the Earths temperature at a habitable range. It’s only when the Ozone allows more than what naturally comes through, until it’s possibly dangerous. How does the Ozone let more through exactly? Well, humans have been destroying the Ozone for decades with gases called “greenhouse gases”. These greenhouse gases are essentially “Ozone eaters” because they completely destroy the Ozone. These gases include: chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide, methane, and carbon dioxide. Many of these are given off by things like car exhausts, power plants, and old aerosol cans. Just one atom of chlorine can destroy more than one hundred thousand Ozone molecules (according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency). What exactly is the Ozone? The Ozone is a naturally occurring belt of “Ozone” …show more content…
So is it possible that the cycle is natural and not man made? The first ice age happened approximately twenty-four billion years ago. The second about 700 million years ago, then 430 million years ago, and 330 million years ago. The most recent ice age took place only five million years ago. Between all of the ice ages were warming periods. If history is repeating itself then we should be seeing an increase in temperature. The bigger question is whether or not humans have accelerated the increase in temperature. Charts show that we are on the incline of temperature change and just looking at it seems like it is just like every other warming period. However, the possibility of an increased rate of warmth is still
The Thurmond Rule is an informal and somewhat amorphous rule in the United States Senate regarding confirmations of judicial nominees. While it originated with former Senator Strom Thurmond's opposition to President Lyndon Johnson's nomination of Justice Abe Fortas to be Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in June 1968, the specifics of the rule vary between sources. Thurmond himself said that no lifetime judicial appointments should move in the last six months or so of a lame-duck presidency.[1] In the last year of George W. Bush's second term Democratic Senator Patrick Leahy stated the rule as meaning "judicial nominations do not advance in the Senate in the latter part of a presidential election year without the support of Senate leaders
Have you ever wondered how rabbits lived? How they get food or sleep or live? This book tells you about that and it also tells of an adventure of a couple rabbits trying to find a new Warren.
During World War II, propaganda was everywhere. It was seen in television and posters. Posters were popular forms as they were colorful, creative, and often portrayed the artists view and concerns on the war, and movies showed the same thing. American propaganda created false images to make people scared of enemies overseas. Fascist and communist nations’ propaganda contained racist and misleading information to dehumanize the enemy and create hatred toward them in order to promote a communist government.
Global climate change, something that most people in the world are not taking as seriously as they should. Many people believe that climate change is a phenomenon; a conspiracy theory to engage people into spending more money. When the world became industrialized, we lost our way on protecting our Earth, our only planet. Industrialization is why our environment is in critical condition. Advocating and government officials are necessary for a decrease of Greenhouse Gas emissions into our atmosphere. For our environment to thrive, changes need to happen and they can begin with yourself.
Climate change is something that affects us all as a human race, and we need to do something about it immediately. Ultimately, climate change is dangerous and upon us more than we realize. While there are some individuals who don't believe it exists at all, there are some who simply believe it is not caused by humans on this planet. My goal for this paper is to make aware the dangers that climate change poses to our planet and the human race. While doing this, I hope to provide fact-based evidence that supports the claim that we, as humans, cause the dangerous phenomena that is climate change and that we need to change our course of action before it is too late.
As Earths average temperature increases every year, the discussion of climate change has become a significant topic in the scientific community. Human activities such as powering factories, running automobiles or something as simple as burning wood for heat, emit dangerous greenhouse gases. What makes these greenhouse gases so detrimental is that they absorb the heat radiating off of Earth and keep it in the lower atmosphere creating a “blanket” of warmth around the Earth’s surface. This causes a drastic increase in the Earths average temperature. Due to the rise in temperature, the polar caps have been melting faster than ever, this is dangerous not only because of the risk of floods and sea level increase but ocean water will become less saline and ecosystems will be destroyed, impacting humans just as much as marine life. In the article, Understand faulty thinking to tackle climate change by George Marshall, Marshall states that most people in our world today do not care about climate change because it will not affect them, “Which points to the real problem: climate change is exceptionally amorphous, … no deadlines, no geographic location, no single cause or solution.” (Marshall 2014). Because the author makes it clear that climate change is indeed a great plight, and fails to be acknowledged by people, it is a significant matter that should be discussed
Hi Christina! I agree with you that the global climate change is one of the most important issues in our society today. Many people deny this, but there are so many proofs that we cannot deny. For example, the pollution in the capital of China, Beijing, has change their lives. They have to wear mask on the street and they cannot see the sun very often. If we don't do something about our pollution, our earth might also end up like Beijing.
Today people say global warming is a natural cause, but what if I told you, you are contributing to it? Certain things released into the atmosphere such as greenhouse gasses are causing fresh water reserves in glaciers to melt, the climate to change and much more. The human race plays a vital factor to the death of this planet everyday due to our thoughtless attitude towards nature. Global warming is a massive problem in our generation and we need to stop contributing to it.
Global Warming will continue to be a monstrous problem to be dealt with, when thinking of the future what needs to be considered is how long can the Earth keep sustaining life with little to no change. Change cannot happen overnight but, with nations working together to fix a common goal it is possible to put in motion a considerable change that will benefit the generations to come. Global warming cannot keep being put off, the risks are to great to ignore anymore, it is everyone’s problem therefore, it takes everyone to make the situation okay. Scientists need to keep raising awareness to get people to jump into action, the quicker the better. Politicians like Al Gore need to be more involved in the truth and facts surrounding climate change
Human activities such as deforestation, burning fossil fuels and transportation emissions have caused warmer climate changes. These factors all are increasing the “Greenhouse Effect” which is when the carbon gets released into the atmosphere, furthermore this causes those gases to be trapped inside the earth’s atmosphere causing multiple of the effects. Global warming is harmful to the environment because there has been an increase in global temperature, incline in natural disasters, and extinction of animals throughout the world. These factors are only a small percentage of what global warming is doing. Without human intervention global warming would not be a problem that this planet would face, it's our priority to save this planet for ourselves and for future generation.
Global warming has been an on-going issue for many decades. Most people would argue that it is a hoax; while others argue it is true. Climate change can cause a domino effect of catastrophes throughout the world. Once it affects one group, then that affected group will affect another, and so on and so forth; like a plague. Global warming is an authentic problem and we need to find more efficient ways to eliminate it, or at least contain it.
To properly engage the average high school student on why they should pursue a major in environmental science, it is pivotal to showcase unexpected consequences of consistent indifferent behavior towards preserving and improving the environment. In a world where the environment’s shifting conditions due to climate change become more prevalent and impactful, it should be evident that modifications are necessary. However, the exact change and path to fluctuating behaviors and societal perceptions of climate change make this an extremely difficult subject to tackle. Climate change in its simplest form is defined by NASA as “a change in the typical weather of a region or city”. The chart below highlights the significance and severity of the climate related issues and the risks they pose with natural disasters, extreme weather events, involuntary migration, food crises, and failure of climate change adaptation posing the greatest risks.
Everything is hot and dry. You haven’t had clean water in weeks or proper food in months. The sky is perpetually grey. You can’t remember a time when it was blue, or even just when the clouds were white. The air is suffocatingly toxic as if the very earth was dying. You’re a mile from the beach, but it’s far from pretty. It’s full of plastic and is too toxic and acidic to swim in; only bottom feeders can survive. Agriculture has fallen due to the UV radiation being too strong for most plants to survive. Humans have fallen back to being a hunter-gatherer species, as meat is too expensive to produce domestically with the lack of plants. You’ll die within a year. This is our planet in one hundred years. Many people talk about global warming and the planet dying, but have you really taken action to help slow the death of the planet? Though the problem and causes of global warming are complex, the answer is simple. Ecosystems are dying, but you can help slow the death of the earth by going vegan, vegetarian, or even just semi-vegetarian and letting your peers know about the effect the meat industry has on the world and how we can stop it.
Everyone knows what weather is and how fast it can change and bring season’s , storms , temperature but does anyone know what climate really is? Climate is usual weather of one specific place and can have different seasons than other regions. The Earth’s climate is what you get when you put all the climates together. Climate change on the other hand is a change in the usual weather found in a place. Though weather can change in just a few hours ; climate takes hundred of years to change. Earth’s climate is always changing but in the past 50 years it has changed more than ever , having the global temperature has increased at the fastest rate in recorded history. Even though some may disagree that Global Warming is a reality , we as people who are using the Earth and its resources should make it our top priority to make sure we take steps to reduce our carbon footprint , particularly those which require little to no effort.
Climate change is a phrase that has recently become a household topic. Now, it’s being discussed on a global level. In December of 2015, 196 countries gathered together to discuss the future of the global environment and the impact humans have left on it (Falkner). The result was the Paris Agreement, an agreement in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change aiming to reduce carbon emissions and the global temperature. With the global climate rapidly changing, the main goal presented in the Paris Agreement was to prevent any human action that will interfere and damage the current climate. Focusing specifically on climate change, the Paris Agreement calls all countries to reduce carbon emissions in order to halt global warming. They decided upon a goal of reducing the global temperature by 2030 (Manolas).
