Even though needles scare me and giving somebody a blood transfusion is not something I do every day, I knew I had to do it as I am a utilitarian and it would be against my morals to not give the patient the blood they need.
Morality is our belief of what is right and what is wrong, my beliefs lead me to conclude that the right thing to do was go to the hospital and help increase the patient’s chances of survival. As the moral theory states, a person’s actions are what makes them good or bad, so had I just driven by the accident, my morality could be seemingly bad as the patient may die because my decision to not give them blood was a bad decision, according to a utilitarian. Though the baseball game would be missed, a utilitarian is concerned
Peer pressure could come from a series of people. In many cases adults pressure children to act, dress, and submit to different situations in life. Salvation by Langston Hughes brings forth a very relatable topic to the reader’s eyes. The author’s purpose of Salvation is strictly to bring light to the role adults play in children's decision making. In other words the author expressed a time he was pressured to believe and do as adults say and he also dicuss the negative affect being pressured had on his
Thank you for taking the time to review my senior project: hosting an American Red Cross blood drive. I nearly chose to job shadow instead, but after taking some time to think about my main weaknesses, I decided that a blood drive would help me improve in these areas more than job shadowing. The main shortcoming I sought to improve was a general shyness around strangers; organizing a blood drive takes more planning and interaction with strangers than most job shadowing.
Morality in its basic definition, is the knowledge between what is right and what is wrong. In Joan Didion’s essay, “On Morality,” she uses examples to show how morality is used to justify actions and decisions by people. She explains that morality can have a profound effect on the decisions that people chose to make. I think that morality is an idea that is different for every individual based on morals and background.
First of all ever since I was young I've been in and out of the hospital. They say I'm a hard poke because my veins are so small. F.Y.I. I’m not a big fan of needles.(one time they needed three to four people just to hold me down so they can poke me). They poke me because, when I'm sick they have to check my hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is just another meaning for checking my blood level.
Drawing blood is more than sticking a patient with a needle. The procedure of drawing blood should be taking seriously as doctors rely on the results to treat patients. When proper phlebotomy technique is not used we put our patient at risk for infection, incorrect diagnosis, and many other health risk, and not to mention it can be costly to the facility. As mentioned throughout the article well trained health care professionals can cut the "[expense] and unfortunate consequences of poor phlebotomy techniques."
Four principal components comprise blood: plasma, red blood cells (erythrocytes), white blood cells (leukocytes) and platelets (thrombocytes). Concentrations of these cells and plasma have an ideal range, and if the concentration changes, the result varies on severeness, but this change in concentration can result in illness or death. The majority of blood consists of plasma; about 55% of blood volume is plasma (American Red Cross). Water, salts, enzymes, hormones, antibodies, metabolites, and other proteins make up the plasma, with water being the main component (Fox 407). Plasmas main functions consist of suspending cells, maintain a proper blood pressure, severs as a medium for mineral exchange, and helps maintain proper pH (Americna Red
In the video, researchers that conducted the study were people from the public health service. Also I would also go as far as saying the US government along the lines of guilty by association. This documentary stated many times the underlying motivation of this study and very clearly showed racism as the gas pedal. African Americans were the target participants in this study, they were discriminated against and said to have “bad blood”. A women who helped in these studies and spoke in the video stated that “the bad blood these people were interested in was syphilitic blood but in general in that day and age bad blood could have meant a number of different things.” Bad blood could have meant anything from anemia to fatigue.
I donate a few times a year, and this last time I was told since I just finised a cycle of antibotics my blood was unexceptable. It didnt fit the criteria, the number of days was off. So instead of putting peoples heath and possably their lives in danger I will go back once I physicaly and moraly can pass the criteria. Better safe than sorry! There is a million other things that can be done instead of donating blood. In all honsty how would you feel if some health issuses came out of nowhere and essentialy everyone who recived your blood became infected with that heath issue. I know I would feel absolutly disgusting and I dont think I would be able to look at my self in the mirrior. Or if the tables were turned, ans you caught something because
they're responding to treatment. Only a drop of blood is needed, and it can be collected at
Morality is the recognition of the distinction between right and wrong, a set of social rules, culture, customs, traditions, beliefs, or practices which specify proper, acceptable forms of conduct. Various pieces of art depict some moral lessons to every audience involved as it is the highest form of expression. Through various paintings, books of all kinds of genre, movies, plays, audios, photos and carvings, morality is depicted. Aesthetic value of pieces of art is determined by the moral value.
Blood chemistry or blood test is identifying the different levels of chemical ingredients found in the blood. The analysis of these substances provides clues to a patient’s condition and the functioning of the major body systems such as, blood sugar levels, liver functions, essential nutrients etc. This helps doctors in diagnosing the patient’s conditions much easier and quicker.
Did you know that saving a life is the most easiest thing to do? You do not have to be superman, a fireman, Captain America or a doctor to save a life, it is just as easy as donating blood. I once donated blood and I felt like a real time superhero. I saved the life of a girl named Jessie who got into a severe accident and it made me feel good about myself. Blood donation started as early as 1668 and has hence been going on. Every 2 seconds, someone is in critical need of a blood transfusion. People usually donate blood and walk away as if nothing has happened. They view this as a normal everyday thing that people do to save lives, but they do not know what actually goes on behind the scene. Before blood is transfused from one human to another, several intense processes have to occur for this to happen such as preparing for the needles and checking blood types, a very strong unbreakable bond forms between the recipient and the donor and donating blood reduces the risk of getting cancer tremendously.
Hematology and oncology are most always paired together in a hospital setting. Hematology and oncology teams will collaborate together to assist both children and their families through their hospital stay. Hematology is the study of the physiology of the blood. By studying the blood, healthcare providers are able to better understand childhood illnesses involving the hematological system. Oncology is the study of cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death in disease in young children. Learning more about oncology and hematology can provide us with knowledge to be able to help more young children in the fight for a healthy life. With this, we will look more closely at hemophilia and neuroblastoma.
Lifesaving blood transfusions are becoming more and more common. Aaron Dunnagan is a perfect example of how they are lifesaving. Two years ago when he was thirty-four years old, Aaron experienced symptoms of one of the most rare blood disorders called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP). TTP is when you have blood clots that form in your blood vessels therefore causing a lack of oxygen to your organs (Dunnagan). What is frightening about TTP is that you are not born with the disorder; people just somehow develop it. In Aaron’s case he had three embolisms (blood clots) that made it so he had a shortage of oxygen in his brain, making it hard for him to function (Dunnagan). His body had become autoimmune; this means his body was producing antibodies that were mistakenly attacking his body’s healthy blood cells (Dunnagan). The antibodies were causing a block in the activity of the ADAMTS13 enzyme which would be preventing unnecessary blood clots (Dunnagan). As a result of the lack of enzymes, less platelet were present in his plasma. This caused Aaron to need plasma exchange provided by an Apheresis machine, which supplies protein into the blood. In the total time of six months, Aaron had fifty-four transfusions done on him. For those six months, he needed eight pints of plasma every day, which is equivalent to eight people donating their blood (Dunnagan). Transfusing blood is a complicated and a
A moral person will make choices out of good faith; choosing what is good for the sake of being good. Moral choices must be done voluntarily not by coincidence or ignorance. Someone cannot be deemed a hero due to their own mishap. Someone accidentally going the wrong way down a one-way-street blocks a get-away car from passing. The traffic-violator cannot take credit for stopping the criminals due to coincidence by his default in directions. Actions done by ignorance cannot be rationalized to be substantially moral. A person may act by reason of ignorance or act in ignorance. Acting by reason of ignorance is done by acting on good intentions without realizing potential danger and does not exempt a person from morality. A nurse distributing milk to patients may give a lactose intolerant patient chocolate milk instead of soy milk not realizing that the chocolate milk will make the patient sick (which she would definitely loose her job). The nurse had good intentions but she fell short and caused more damage. Acting in ignorance cannot be justified to due incapacitation or other unusual circumstances. A drug user cannot justify a bank robbery because of the voices in his head. If he would not have participated in drug use then the voices would not have told him to rob a bank. Actions done due to fear or accident are exempt from the moral realm. Aristotle taught that a virtuous person must obtain both dimensions in order to achieve
