To have strength, you must have faith and some type of motivation. Or in Georgia’s situation, she had the will to live. Born in Budapest, only fourteen, and born into a prominent family was Georgia Gabor when the catastrophe Holocaust began. With strength and determination, she successfully escaped the Nazis three times and away from the horror. One morning after successfully rescuing her mother, Georgia was caught wandering on the streets without the Star of David and was brought to a high ranking German soldier. Then, she was brought down to the cellar where multiple Jews and gentiles were humming while being hit with a leather strap by both Hungarian and German Nazis. Georgia was forced to watch that painful scene of other Jews and gentiles being whipped with a gun pressed against her rib. Unfortunately, a young girl begging to be allowed to sit was shot and killed right in front of her eyes. Right after, an old rabbi’s head was split with a chair by a German soldier. Through a crack, Georgia saw three mutilated bodies hanging upside down with their ankles nailed into …show more content…
Georgia had to quickly form a plan to be able to survive. She crawled with the Jews in the hole which was a tunnel created by Jews multiple years ago. As the German soldier realized Georgia escaped from him, the Nazis closed off both exits. In a packed, pitch black tunnel and with other one hundred bloody Jews, unharmed Georgia was stuck with people who sadly died. The worst part was when the rats came in, lured by the stench of blood and biting people. Luckily, Georgia wasn’t drenched in blood and didn’t smell delicious to the rats so she was not bitten. After a day and a half, they were finally released from the tunnel. Continuously after, Georgia Gabor was captured and escaped from the Nazis until she finally escaped in 1956 with five other
One Morning January 1943, Tuesday a Green Police Officer stopped Hanneke’s bike asking what she had in her basket, there were three packages. The first one was filled with potatoes and the Second one was a sweater and books for her mother. She didn’t say what the other packages were and started to mess with the officer so that she could be on her way.In the other Packages were sausages, lotion, and cigarettes for two people to deliver too, Miss Akkerman and Mrs. Janssen. Mrs. Janssen wanted to ask Hanneke a favor her to do and it was to help Mrs. Janssen find a Jewish Girl.Hanneke was shocked and Mrs. Janssen told her Husband was hiding a Jewish Family in his shop and they all died beside Mirjam who was hiding in her house. Hanneke didn’t know if she would help because it’s dangerous and she could get killed, she told Mrs. Janssen she would think about it, but she was late for lunch with her mother and father. Her mother was upset that Hanneke was late and told her she had a Green Police pulled her over, she kissed her father on the
When the Starzynski family was taken from their home by the French police, the onlookers exhibited dehumanization. In this instance, dehumanization was portrayed in the form of indifference, “...shutters began to open, faces peered out from behind curtains... nobody moved, nobody said anything. They simply watched” (Rosnay 18). The onlookers did not view the Starzynskis as their human equals, and they allowed the police to take them to their death without saying a word. Their Jewish religion made them be viewed as less than human, and therefore they felt it was acceptable for them to be taken away to be killed. Once the Starzynski’s friends and acquaintances discovered that they were Jewish, by the yellow star on their clothing, they began to treat them differently. “...most girls stopped speaking to the children with the stars. Or... stared at them with disdain” (47). Once captured and inside the Vel’ d’Hiv, the Jewish people of Paris are treated as animals; the conditions inside the Vel’ d’Hiv are heartless and inhumane. “The girl had to squat against the wall to relieve herself, fighting against the overpowering urge to vomit, her hand clapped over her mouth. People were... defecating wherever they could... cowering like animals near the filthy floor” (30). The captured Jews are not only deprived the basic right of privacy,
Describe: Liesel and her best friend, Rudy Steiner, has been walking through town when a woman in a window above them looks to the streets and announces, “Die Juden;” The Jews. This is when a vast amount of Jewish prisoners begins to march their way down Munich Street while Nazi soldiers barked orders at them. To everyone, especially Liesel (who had a Jewish person living in her basement), this was the furthest thing from a pleasant sight. And apparently, Hans Hubermann had enough of this, as if being controlled by God himself, Hans walked over and offered a particularly weak Jew a piece of bread out of pure sympathy, only to be beaten by overlooking Nazis.
It happened because of the killing of a German officer, Ernst vom Rath by for a Polish Jew called Herschel Gynszpan (Moeller 105). I witnessed the frightful attack by the Nazis on places related to the Jews such as synagogues, their religious sites, and cemeteries (Bergen “Chapter 5”). All their shops’ windows had been smashed broken. The once graceful streets filled with shops have now been replaced by burned debris and fractures of broken glasses. The Nazis did not only attack their shops and dwellings, but they had also arrested and even murder huge number of Jews (Bergen “Chapter 5”). I saw a young girl being hurled down from a building. I wanted to help her but my timidity had locked both my feet on the ground. An owner of a shop had also been captured by the Stormtroopers, which separated him from his crying wife and daughter. At the sight of this, I thought of Bauer and became frightened for his condition. I leaped to his store, only to find an abandoned and distorted place. Fire has consumed Bauer’s shop, shelf was overthrown, glasses were shattered into pieces, and the safety of Bauer is the only one that I can hope for. When will this violence end? It saddens me to know that Germany is no longer the country it used to be, for racialism has covered it, and ‘unity’ has lost its
The Gamzers were a totally normal family, even running a candy shop, and of course non-Jewish people came in to buy things(p.7). But after Hitler changed anything through just hating Jews, everything changed for all these families, for absolutely no good reason(p.13). We can see what simple hate can lead to, murder on so many innocent people who didn't do a thing wrong in there life, who were just trying to survive and save life's(p.11). I really like that the Jews were trying to hold together in there hardest time of life(p.13)., and that there were so many non-Jewish families who were hiding Jews, even though they know that if anybody would find them, everybody in that house would have to die(p.19/28). That shows that there were people who knew that the hate against the Jews was completely wrong, but there wasn't much they could do to change it. I honestly can not imagine to be living in such a time of terror, especially if I would've been a Jew. I guess there were way too many of them who just gave up, thinking they would never be able to live a normal life again, but luckily most of them were trying to save

Georgia was founded by James Oglethorpe for relief for poor English in 1732. Was named after King George II of England.Original name of Georgia was the Province of Georgia, later Georgia. Georgia was the last to be established, 50 years after the other 12 of the English colonies in America. The British government allowed the charter to establish the Georgia Colony in an effort to help protect the South Carolina Colony from invasions of the French in Louisiana and the Spanish in Florida. The only religion not welcome in the Georgia Colony was the Roman Catholic religion. As James Oglethorpe served as the Georgia Colony’s governor for 12 years which slavery and alcohol were banned. The Georgia Colony’s major city was Savannah.
Mary Haydock, now formally known as Mary Reibey was born on the 12th May 1777 (source 1) and was raised by her grandmother after both her parents died when Mary was of a young age. Mary was convicted of horse stealing at the age of 13 and was to be sent to Australia for seven years (source 1). Being sent away from her family and in particular her grandmother, meant that Mary was alone and isolated from the people that she would have felt most comfortable around. This lack of belongingness may have caused Mary Reibey depression which was common for convicts of such a young age.

There are hard times in life when you will feel like giving up, in some cases you have to find your inner strength and power to survive. Imagine the years 1933-1945 the period of the Holocaust genocide, and being involved in one of the many concentration camps. When faced with extreme hardships or challenges like this, many are somehow able to find the mental and physical strength necessary to endure.

To whom it may concern, Georgia Beckmann is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful and witty students I have seen in my counselling career. These qualities are impossible to miss through how she approaches her assignments, the quality of her insight into topics at hand, discussions in class and extracurricular activities. Georgia’s hard work has consistently earned her some of the highest grades of her class since freshman year, and she has continuously challenged herself each year to improve the quality of her work and analyses across academic disciplines. Georgia has earned straight A’s throughout her entire high school career, which is no surprise based on the hard-working spirit she exudes every day in all of her classes. This has carried
The cinematography of the film gives the audience striking images which expose the taboos of Holocaust film-making, but this gives authenticity to the film itself. The cinematography utilizes accurate content such as dead bodies, nudity, and defamation to show the harsh truths of the Holocaust. For example, there was a pile of the dead jews shown in the beginning of the film shown after they entered the gas chamber. The pile was shown in the background of the main character within the initial 30 minutes of the movie. This was a daily occurrence in many extermination camps. However, one child seemed to survive the gassing, but he was suffocated by a nazi doctor on the table. The main character on the table took him away, because he
